Let's see, popular opinion would have me believe quite a few
bands sold out in 1996. First, there's Metallica. Mama Said has a
country-inspired lick on it, so the whole album must be country
(didn't they sell out anyway with Fade To Black??). Megadeth sold
out with their last effort (a verse in French and a harmonica
solo). Slayer sold out by "going punk." Did you know that Jerry
Cantrell from Alice in Chains uses a BLUES scale to solo on many
of their songs, new and old? Blues is different, so they sold out.
Page Hamilton of Helmet actually went to SCHOOL to learn about
JAZZ, so his entire band sold out.
Hey, any type of music other than hardcore thrash must be
mainstream, and any band played on the radio has sold out. I read
in Guitar World that Dimebag Darrell owns an ACOUSTIC guitar! They
sold out anyway with Planet Caravan. Sepultura was once played on
MTV(!) late at night during HeadBanger's Ball, so they are a bunch
of sellouts. BMG labels Tool as alternative, so they sold out
somewhere. I hear Tom Morello has female relatives that wear
MAKEUP, so Rage sold out. C.O.C. has did two songs with no
distortion on their last, so don't ever listen to them again.
Well, I guess the only real bands left are Warrant, Devo, Quiet
Riot, and Ratt. All of us REAL FANS enjoy!
