I haven't bought any music in months..while in Cuba I heard some
things that just ruined my expectations of musicianship. Now, it's
like an elite handful of sick bastards I listen to and mostly Piano
and Violin, some Horns too. My tastes in music as of last year has
fucking gone way out. I even switch to a different style..I don't
sound Rock/Metal anymore I hardly use the P. Minor with distortion and
I'm heading and sticking more to Whole Tone Scales and Diminished. I'm
more interested in fucking with peoples head now, and making them
think "Jesus Christ what the fuck was that..did he just pull a
complete passing tone Scale within a Lydian Flat Seven?". I'm lucky I
have all this culture in me and ability to let lose and create music
from my roots. In other words I'm going to end up a broke mofo' if I
decide to live off of my music.
Thank god I have a few Ruples saved. In fact I've been running some
Horn Scales that give a unique sound on guitar and when that gets
conbined with ****** Scales (fuck that..I ain't giving my secret
away!) it's out of this world. The strange thing is you MUST have a
Legato hand this won't work otherwise and it sounds a little like the
Holdsworth stuff but something more...uhh more Fire more Blistering.
It's sexier than hell because nothing compares to the smooth flow of
Legato techniques. So I won't be picking up Becker stuff anytime
soon..heheheh besides I don't like him or Marty that much. I like
Marty more but I think they kind of suck. Oh..heheheh I'm going to
send you a pic of my Jackson to piss you off, wait until you see this.

used that one often anyway though). And sometimes the Hirojoshi scale.

Actually, the album I was talking about he doesn't really play much guitar on.
It's songs he wrote but he needed other people to play. Some of them are
pretty elaborate, and I think a lot of this stuff is better composed than a lot
of his previous material (except he could have done more for the resolutions of
some songs).

One day, maybe in like 023895610896 years, I'll get myself a custom shop axe.
Maybe a solid-body classical (I wanna check out one of those Parker Spanish
Flys first though, just to see how good it sounds and plays), and I want inlays
in mine, dammit! And a thin body (as in, the width from the part that's near
your chest to the bottom that's more at your waist or hips). And some fries
with that, too.

Les Paul.
I still "strong like boohl" and stay in shape so it's no problem..all
musicians should workout with weights it eliminates alot of problems.

I will go to college, but I'm not likely to be working until maybe second
semester. Need to get settled in a bit and I have some plans in september and
october that working may prevent. I'll gig whenever possible though.
Right now I sorta work. I still paint and I still hate doing it. It feels
like such a chore and I should stop doing this because it's making me hate
doing something that I should love to do. Plus I only get $150 a piece, and
these are pretty large works in general. I actually turned down a painting job
recently because I think people are taking advantage of having cheap custom
artwork. Too many people asking for portraits and shit that takes a lot of
time and precision for not enough money.
I should be able to sell my own stuff soon, if I can get stuff printed.
I'll send you some pictures of some of the works I enjoyed doing and didn't
sell.

Actually, what I want to do is art and music alongside each other. I don't
want to give up art, I'm just sick of always having to do stuff for other
people that involves very little creativity.
What would be really neat to do would be illustrations like album covers and
stuff like that. I need to do both music and art, the creativities feed off
each other. My major in college is Studio Art (I want to add music, probably
ethnomusicology, as a second major). Doing murals can be pretty fun too, I've
done a few and I have another small one I gotta do soon. Last year, I went
across the country to Petaluma, California to paint a mural in a Cajun
restaurant. That was cool, it got me a free trip to CA for a few weeks. Even
all my food was paid for.
Once I get my prints done and my business liscense set-up I should be able to
make some good money off of my more surreal pieces of art. The one that seems
in highest demand is the one I wanted to send but couldn't find the picture of.
The others are in demand too, but once you see this other one you'll
understand why so many people are interested. Heh, and James will remember how
this piece almost got ruined last year by the people who framed it...we both
went back to the store and argued with them about what possessed them to put a
piece of acetate over top a pastel because it has a static charge, and the lady
who worked there says, "well glass has a static charge too" and I wasn't sure
whether to yell at her or laugh my ass off; if you're working in a store that
does framing, you BETTER know why pastels HAVE to be framed behind glass and
only glass. Static charge my ass! Fortunately, the damage was minimal and I
was able to fix it but damn was I mad at them. Hehe, you do not fuck with
someone else's artwork or you WILL feel their wrath. Some artists will seem
like the calmest, nicest people you've ever met but if you fuck with their
creations they'll rip you a new one. Unfortunately, I never found the fucker
who stole one of my other most interesting works (picture some random
horizontal tree branches sorta floating, with cheetahs and some weird-ass
monkey creatures with elongated, tubular faces sitting among the branches, with
various hairstyle play musical instruments...a recorder/clarinet-type
instrument, a sitar, and an oud. And vertical branches of flowers and leaves
hung down from above. It was all done in pen-and-ink, took a few weeks...grr,
and then some cheap fucker stole it. Oh well, it's a demented form of flattery
I guess).

or no-pads sparring of some persuasion. technique and ability count for a
lot, but when you're 50 pounds heavier than the other guy and you have him
matched for that technique and ability, he's fucked. System.exit( 0 ) that
is -it-. that said, there are plenty of big guys who can't fight. by
saying "well conditioned" I take it you mean someone who's not just built,
but someone who can fight.
the best advice to the little guys I've ever heard is to just start eating
more and work out. a cat who's 5'0" with 200 iron-friendly pounds isn't
5'0" in a fight, he's 200lbs.
of course, there's always Colt-Fu, or Bali-Song-Do. just solutions to a
problem.

whatever suits you. fighitng is how you measure yourself when everything
breaks down. so long as the nearest ATM is functional, Taco Bell doesn't
fuck up their order, the prick in the cadillac drives off instead of kicking
your ass because of your 'macho' outburst in traffic, and Starbucks isn't
out of Mocha Frappucchino, many people don't engage themselves or their
environment enough to become familiar with it. unfamiliarity with anything,
especially yourself (on the more primal levels), when things go wrong is a
bad thing. it isn't any more difficult to stay in condition yellow over
condition white than it is to get up an hour early and jog/do crunches/etc
before you shower and go to work. ymmv.
but, there are two kinds of people: those who watch and those who do. so,
though this is diverging from any semblance of being on-topic, even the
embarrasing sport-fighting that most people think of when someone mentions
fighting in a context outside of their sixth-grade classroom is far, far
superior to those who rather watch it on TV or play it in a video game.

personally, I watch only to learn; I do to engage myself. ymmv. of course,
not everyone can take up everything as a hobby, but satisfaction with

And especially with gigging at little clubs like I might do, yeah, I better
bring some big, fat roadies to guard the equiptment; I've heard some pretty
bizarre stories about people just boldly grabbing and running off with guitars
or other equipment at gigs.

I'll probably be better at visual art because it comes more naturally to me,
but I do love music. But I'll probably end up more of a composer or
multi-instrumentalist than just a guitar player. I would like to reach a
higher level of playing, but there's so much other stuff I want to try too and
I know I won't master everything out there but it would be great to at least
gain the knowledge to do what I want to with it. For music, I'll probably
stick solely on guitar for a few more years (aside from my college piano
classes) unless I somehow get the money for a few more instruments in the
meantime. But right now, I gotta concentrate on whipping my ass into shape for
some classical fingerstyle. Hehe, the hardest part is probably growing my
right-hand fingernails long enough without them driving me insane. I haven't
had logn fingernails in years and they drive me nuts and they break really
easily. But they're getting to a decent length where I'm finding it easier to
pluck the strings with them. So my technique is improving some, and I'm
finally learning some new pieces to play. I should be able to do some much
more advanced classical stuff within a few months (the stuff I'm doing right
now is "intermediate" classical...some Tarraga (Lagrima), Bach (Bourree), Sor
(Study in B Minor....I'm not quite sure why this song is listed as the
second-hardest in this little book I got, it's a lot easier than most of the
Bach stuff that's in there), and Paganini (24th caprice...kicks ass on guitar
but too bad this book doesn't have the whole thing.....but it seems to be
variations in playing the same chord progression so i can probably figure the
rest out)...that's all I've been working on so far, I still need to learn some
more stuff by early november. Hehe, if you have any suggestions for classical
fingerstyle pieces that'll impress the people holding the auditions, let me
know...

I don't mind working at stuff I enjoy. It's when I'm not enjoying it and it
takes away my time and energy for stuff that I do enjoy that I dislike it. I
don't really care all that much about money...yeah, it's great to be able to
buy stuff but I see these kids wearing themselves out over minimum wage jobs
and it seems totally not worth it. And I disliked doing all that art that I
didn't want to do because it made me start to hate something that I loved to
do.

year. And now things are a mess...have to pack for college and one of my
parents is in the hospital. But, it'll be sent...
None of the ones I sent were oil...the paintings were acrylic and the drawing
was a "hard" pastel (the guitar player). I've actually never worked in oils
because they take too long to dry (heh, and acrylic can often dry too fast). I
actually used to hate painting because in school we always had to use these
sloppy-ass brushes and that tempera paint shit. But once I started with
acrylics, I took to painting very well. So, I've only been painting for maybe
2 and a half years, aside from the now-and-then tempera shit before that.
Oh, some of those martial arts moves do work very well...of course, it's none
of that fancy shit that they get people to do in movies because they're
suspended by strings...the shortest, smallest moves are the most powerful
actually. A punch that extends about 8-10 inches, fast hits using the little
bone in your wrist, a few kicks (I found the twirling ones to be very awkward
and they don't seem nearly as powerful as lunge kicks), and some move called
the "chicken wing" (but it hurts like a bitch to execute this move). Of
course...the moves won't do you much good if you can't block yourself or
properly take hits from the other person. In another self-defense class I had
in school, we learned various other quick ways to hurt attackers...stabbing
their eyes with cars keys (if you are attacked in a parking lot), a quick and
effective way to break their fore-arm, clapping them on the ears (can kill or
seriously hurt someone if done with enough force). And yeah, what you said
about kicking someone in the balls is right...it's a pretty useless move
because most of the time, people miss....the target area is too small. It's
best to aim for shins/kneecaps or the face/neck. Kicking someone in the balls
only tends to work in the movies. And a lot of people don't like to think
about this, but no matter how well-trained in any kind of self-defense they
are, if someone pulls a knife on you, chances are, you're going to bleed...you
won't necesarily lose the fight but people who think they can fight and not get
harmed are silly.

smaller. And it was in wrestling matches.
I'm 6'3 215 to 230 (my weight changes, depending on how much I've
worked out in a month or so.) those niggers saw my pic. I can more
than fight, street brawler in Cuba, heheeh and "Gekko" heheheh Roman
Wrestler for 7 yrs. there at 75 kilos. If I punch you..you're going
down I don't care if you're tyson or hulk hogan. If I hit you you're
eating dirt. Especially with my left, hehehe now I understand that in
a fight anything can happen and I never have nor will I EVER fight
fair. It's not how we did it in the streets. I know that I can be in a

my heart rate up and workout 4 times a week. I can run but I don't..I
do sprints, learned that in Cuba. More beneficial and less taxing. No
way in hell a Martial Artist will out last me..that's just impossible
and ubsurd not if all they do is Martial Arts. If they do cardio work
also then ok.
I'll tell you why I know this. If you look at the last few Olympics
that Cuba has competed in and had a Martial Arts team you'll notice
they win alot of gold
especially in Judo. Go back a few years to and check it out. Ok, the
Wrestling and Boxing, Weightlifting Gym in Cuba was shared by the
Karate and Judo guys at night and the Wrestlers would fuck with the
Boxers and Boxers with Martial Artists and Baseball Players would join
in and fuck with Martial Artists as well. Out of about 100 times that
we kicked the Karate and Judo guys' asses only 2 out of those times
did the Wrestlers get their ass kicked and that's only because they
had a gold medalist Judo guy that was 6'6, heheheh. And the Boxers
were all small except for the 6 or 7 heavy weights. I for one never
got my ass kicked by any Martial Artist except for the Judo guy, but I
wasn't at my full height or weight either. And I was still a young
punk at 16-17 he was fucking 6'6 and 25 years old. You just can't
battle against a wrestler..OLYMPIC wrestler dammit! Don't be talking
wwf shit...turnips! We have a counter for every lock and a throw for
every counter, the only way is to be bigger and stronger or punch like
a boxer and catch us off guard. Now add to this the fact that I'm a
nut case and I like to fight even though I hate violence. And I won't
quit until someone drops and you have a big, well conditioned, strong,

yeah, I never understood people who accept one style of MA and just stick
with it, train for it and live just that. hell, even I know that if you
want to condition yourself, the shit that you do in group isn't even half of
it. you have to the run the sprints, you have to work your heart and your

well, I just have to disagree. if they can't fight, if they just don't have
the skill set, then they're doable by smaller people, to a degree. I mean,
fighting isn't complex, necessarily and if you're in the shape you've got a
leg up over everybody else. but, that still leaves holes and people can
take advantage of that. I do it all the time, especially sword fighting.
they come in and use their only advantage (generally power) on some of the
people out there and then they get around to me. they're not 70lbs heavier
anymore. they're closer to 30lbs heavier, and I know how to use that stick.

Aah, no way, this is Sweden. The 5150 II amp head is fucking... well
about three times that cost. That may be a high rip off price, but
it's certainly not going down to anywhere near $600 unfortunately.

all-tube marshall. it's a marshall. it has tubes. www.musiciansfriend.com
has them. like he said, they're about $600 or so. get the DSL 401. there's
also a 20 watt version of the same thing which will allow you to get it
cranked more easily, but the single 12" speaker might have issues with a
loud-ass drummer, but it's an option. just fucking buy the 401 and quit
asking questions.

go with either one of these. Marshall TSL 2K, Fender Tone Master, Mesa
Dual or Triple Rectifier, VHT 50 or 100wt. Either one of those heads
will get you what you're after. They're ALL $1500 or over..here in USA
I don't know there! If you lived here in Vegas I'd get it for $1000
and then you'd save but that's the price you pay for living in a cool
country. You should've moved to Japan where they're $3000! And then go
for either a Marshall or Mesa speaker cab with 4x12s and "Sheffield's"
speakers if you can! And get Svetlana tubes they're still the best for
the price! Either way you have no choice but to get all tube amps
because you want tone.

A 5150 is no good then? The reason I'm going with that one is mostly
because they're easier to come by around here, and seem quite lovely
as well (not really so much because I absolutely love the amp and
would die for it). Since I'm a lazy slob I'd just like to get the
first good thing as quickly as possible so I don't have to shop around
for half a year (that doesn't sound lame does it?). I've played a Mesa
Dual Rectifier, which is very nice too, but those just don't exist at
all over here. The Marshall is probably around, I just don't like the
Marshalls that I've tried. Haven't seen any Fenders. What's VHT?
Of course they can all be arranged, but I'm White.

before I go and just buy a 5150 by impulse. Thanks.

Marshalls are -easily- converted and I seriously doubt conversion screws up
your sound. that's bullshit.

well, most places that stock Marshall combos could likely just stock the AVT
shit (hybrid) or the Valvestate shit and only have the real JCMs in 100watt

however, that said, all you have to do is practice with a drummer or horn
player for digital and SS amps to turn to shit. there are lots of SS amps
that sound good at low volumes, it's just when you start getting them
stressed they sound bad. if you were going to get a SS amp, then you'd get
your 120watt head and a 4x12 cabinet, as you'd need it to keep it sounding
its best. crate makes a GFX series head at 120watts with dual selectable
gain controls that supposedly sounds like a monster. I personally liked the
Fender Roc Pro hybrid (also with dual selectable gain controls)...at low
volumes. however, long about 10 or 11'o'clock they start losing it. all SS
amps do. nature of the beast.
Ingwie F. Malmsteen uses a Roc Pro at smaller venues and at clinics, and
sounds fine. however, it doesn't sound like a cranked all-tube amp.
nothing else does.

I think the ruling phrase is "a watt is a watt, but 40 tube watts sounds
more like 80 SS watts." also, you realize that a 100watt amp isn't twice as

depends on what it is and all. a 40watt marshall DSL will not get stepped
on by a 100watt solid state amp and it will sound better. much better.
especially when your marshall only sounds sweeter as you turn it up and the

everything you need and nothing you don't. here in the states it's about
$700 from MF. the Peavey 5150, who doesn't sell to catalog and chain
stores, is about that if not more. get the marshall. if you want to later,
you can pop out the speaker and put a $200USD Celestion Alnico Blue in there
and have the undisputed god of amplifiers. there are other options, of
course, but this is about your best bet.

does sound like the real things!
I can guarantee you better tone with that than any Becker tone. Try
one for a month and then see how you'll change. It's a great thing no
question..of course it helps if you CAN play.

haha, dude, I've got a 65 watt amp and it drowns other instruments out when
it's turned up not even halfway! It can shake the house at volume two. You
really wont need 120 watts unless you're playing all by yourself for a crowd
that wants to go deaf (though I reckon if someone came to see you play,
something must be wrong with them to begin with!). Your practices will be
kinda like that scene in the beginning of Back to The Future.
However...a nice thing you can do with an amp like that is somehow rig it up in
your car and have an audio war with the "gansta homies" and they're subwoofers.
Whenever you pass one while driving, you can keep one of those mini-guitars
with you so that you can practice while you're driving...just crank the volume
and watch the fun begin (and your car battery die...)! THEN YOU WILL 0WN DA

money we dump into the "war on drugs" and is it even effective? Fuck no. I
don't remember what country it is...I think germany or austria or
switzerland...anyway, they offer heroin addicts 3 shots of heroin for $10 a day
in a sterile environment. It allows the people to clean themselves up and hold
steady jobs instead of being junkies on the streets. So, because this program
is there, junkies can get back to being somewhat normal, hold jobs, and can
feed their addiction in a way that doesn't harm their outside life nearly as
much. (the ones who remain junkies on the street get arrested though). This
program would get a lot of resistance in america, but I think it would work a
lot better than what we are doing now. Look at our DARE programs in schools.
They've got the right goals, but it's just not really effective. It's good to
prevent kids from using drugs before they start, but I think the approach needs
to be redesigned.

contradictory, all I can say is go try to as-close-to-comparable amps as

I have been playing for 11 years now =). Granted, playing like a wh1te boy
slacker...but long enough to become very comfortable - and most importantly,
intuitive - with the fretboard. To put all things evenly, I'd say I play
like a 2nd-3rd year player (who has seriously practiced), through
experience. What I'm looking for now is to hone my precision (to sound much
less sloppy).
Anyhow, the point of that is not self-aggrandization (I think), but to give
you an idea where I'm at.

Well, my family is german (from small town Westerwald, no less). They're
even bigger hicks than we are here in the midwest. All of my grandparents

I make it simple. You have to..get up every morning, don't complain
about anything, get things done. Do what you have to do..and don't let
anyhting get to you specially when you realize that the person trying
