METALLICA Death Magnetic - (Album Review - Rock iKon Radio)
Fuelled by the hunger that made their 1980s albums so gripping,
Metallica have embraced core strengths on 'Death Magnetic'. Having
ditched blockbusting producer Bob Rock in favor of Rick Rubin, the
band sound reinvigorated as the 'spirited' guru steers them back to
the basics of 1988's '...And Justice For All' for inspiration. Singer
James Hetfield ably compliments the solid backbone laid down by
skinsman Lars Ulrich while lead guitarist Kirk Hammett dominates
proceedings, playing with a euphoric fury not heard since the group's
glory days. From the symphonic tension of 'The Unforgiven III' and
'The Day That Never Comes' to the rootsy spit, snarl 'n' surge of 'The
End Of The Line' and 'Cyanide' it's all a case of hefty guitar riffs,
and frenetic solos. Metallica sound like Metallica again - nobody
makes noize the way they do!
