Has there been an Iron Maiden art book produced? If no, then why the hell not??

Since the falling out with Derek Riggs one probably never will be
either - too bad because it would be really cool.

Shaun Baker spoke thusly:

I can't see that being a problem as Maiden hold the copyright for all
of the images.

Or Derek could release his own book - with Maiden only or with other bands
as well. BTW am I the only one who thinks his early Maiden covers are still
the best he's ever produced? Actually some of his later Maiden stuff and
some of the stuff for other bands suck IMO.

Derek Riggs couldn't publish a book of the Maiden artwork as they hold
all the copyrights.

Unfortunately the days when illustrators had months to complete an
airbrush painting for a record cover are long gone, most sleeves now
have to be completed in a few days or at most a couple of weeks.
FWIW I thin the last decent Riggs painting was SiT but some of the
recent covers by other artist have been way better than Riggs recent
stuff (not including DoD and EtG obviously)

If Maiden does hold the copyrights and are able to use them for this
purpose it would still be cool but if Derek Riggs doesn't want
anything to do with the band and we don't get either commentary and/or
new/unused artwork it would be quite lacking.

a book like this would be fantastic.I`m sure Derek is proud of his work
with maiden regardless of a falling out with the band or at least one
would assume.perhaps there will be something in the works in the
future.derek`s early stuff is great for sure.I`d love to see alot more
of his early idea`s like artwork that was in different stages or was
never used at all.

I agree entirely, Anyone who has see 'The Masque' which is a book of all
the Artwork That Mark Wilkinson (Wickerman, Donnington,OOSP, Best of the
Bsides) did for Fish and Marillion you will have seen how good an art
book can be when it's actually put together by the artist.
The Masque includes all the artwork along with roughs unused bits and
bobs and a running commentary from Mark and Fish.
If a similar book of Maiden artwork was to be put together Driggsys
input would make it a much more intersting book.

I agree.

The SIT cover has insane detail and was pretty much the last of the best. I
wonder how large the original canvas was that Riggs used.

I'd say that SSoaSS is the last of the best.

I agree. I doesn't have as much details as the earlier ones but that just
adds to the brilliance. It's so clean, cold and beautiful.
