A lot of people already know that Axl Rose, the famous leader of Guns N'
Roses, has a brazilian
mother, but his conections with Brazil go far beyond. His best friend is
Fernando, 22, Betta's
youngest son. Fernando is a companion, friend for the hard moments and
he's always in the
studios. Below are the best parts of the interview:
Q. What year did you go to the USA?
F. In 93 or 94.
Q. Did you already know GNR?
F. Yes, but I wasn't a fan, didn't know in depth their work.
Q. What was your first encounter with Axl like?
F. The first time I saw meet him I was 13 years old, was at my cousin's
house(.) Stephanie
Seymour ( Betta was married with an uncle of the model) was washing the
cara when he stoped,
shook my hand and then spit the water that he had in his mouth on
me(.) Since then he's
always kidding with me. He sees in me the closest of what he would have
liked to be when
a child.
Q. Do you always hang out together?
F. Well, we're always working, but he likes to go out at night, go to a
movie, dinner, and
we get back at 3, 4 in the AM.
Q. How did your mother start working with Axl?
F. My mother worked for Stephanie, when she lost her job, she when to the
north of California
and Axl called the next day saying that he had liked her and our
family. Three or four days
later she started to work for him. So I started to listen his songs.
Q. What do you think of Stephanie?
F. I hate her. She's big trouble in the form of a human being. (i'll get
the right word),
She's not reliable, doesn't know what love or to like someone without
second intentions,
her mother is already like that.
Q. What kind of woman does Axl look for now?
F. Now he's not going after any. He's got all attentions towards the cd,
he doesn't want
any distractions. He even looks for someone, but he's not going after.
Q. What's the motive for the delay of the cd?
F. It's like every time he tried to do a task, something would go
wrong. Like if everything
was going ok, but sudenly the guy who's responsible for some technical
(detail) made a mistake,
for example. I say this because I was in the studio with him, and it's
incredible, it seems
like something tries to take him out of this project. I've heard the new
cd, and I can tell
you that the songs are beautiful, there's not even one track there just to
fill space. The
cd should have 16 or 17 tracks and all are very strong. I'm not saying
this because I work
for him, or because I'm his friend(.) My friends, for example, when they
hear a track, they
always praise them. Catcher in the Rye, This I love, That's call(ed) the
Blues, Chinese
Democracy... all are beautiful.
Q. What's the creative process like?
F. First, Axl works the rithm (sp?) with the band. The lyrics are ready
in his head. He's
working hard to be able to put the right word for what he wants to say
(translators note: It's hard to understand
what Fernando was trying to say, but I believe that this is what he meant)
and for the sound
that he gets. He's one of the most brilliant people that I've known.
Q. Rolling Stone published an article saying that Axl throughs (sp?)
Halloween parties every
year. True?
F. I think it started in 1995. But RS published this article saying that
the people who
were there were because they had to, which is a lie. He gives two types of
parties: the first
one is for the children, kids of friends and unwealthy children, abused by
parents, blind..
About 100 kids go and when they arrive, they're marveled. He builds a kind
of theme park
with toys and everything. The other one is for adults, and RS said that
everyone was hating
the party, that we were serving Jose Cuervo, while we were actualy serving
the best tequila.
We serve the best that money can buy. We even rented a tequila fountain
for the party, but
RS omited that part. The people who went were the same of every
year. They always call a
couple of days in advance to ask about the party. This is one of the few
parties that Axl
throughs (sp?), because people usually think that his house is surrounded
by booze and loud
music, it's not true. He only drinks tequila and doesn't get drunk or mad,
he's the most
loving person I know. Always gentil with my friends, and every time that
trouble gets near
him, he gives his back and walks away.
Q. What about the internet?
F. He likes to look around, he can spend hours, but when he reads lies
about him, and realizes
that he can do nothing about it he gets pissed off. The fans read the
public chats and the
stories are repeated so many times that they start to belive them.
Q. What do you know about Renato and Xozi, who Axl talked about in RiR?
F. I don't remember, but there are people who are specialists in spreading
lies, private
phones and private addresses. Must be one of them.
Q. And what about Karen McNeil?
F. She's a person who needs help. One day, she followed the cleaning lady
and entered the
house. She's scary, she thinks that Axl talks to her through letters and,
belive it or not,
thinks there's a loving relationship with my mother, which doesn't exist (
note. loving relationship
is the closest that I could figure.. i belive he means
boyfriend-girlfriend). But she thinks
that if it weren't for my mother, Axl would marry her.
Q. What's the relationship between Axl and Slash?
F. They haven't spoken to each other for years. But it's a relationship
in which people
see Axl as the vilan. If something went wrong, who's to blame? If Slash
does something,
nobody knows about it, like Snakepit, what's so fantastic about this
album? It's not in any
MTV hit show, nobody buys it, but Slash "is the key to GNR", " Guns is
Slash and Axl".. He was
a good guitar player, but it's not like that Axl has to be blamed for
everything. Slash uses
drugs and has in the hospital for an OD, nothing big, but if it were
Axl.... For example, one
of these days I was at home when I saw someone running on the
garden. Axl's room is on top
of mine, so I thought that the person could have jumped from Axls window
and ran. I went up
to Axls room, hit on the door, and no one opened, because Axl was taking a
bath and didn't hear,
but I called the police. When they arrived, the brought together
paramedics and came in saying
that they were going to help the OD victim. I never said OD, they imagined
that because it
was Axl Rose, the emergency was an OD. Slash has ODs and no one knows
about them. Slash
wanted to kill Guns, take the band to bars. Axl said that wasn't possible,
that they couldn't
play for 1,000 people while they could attract 200,000. But if Axl would
have done it Slash's
way, the one to be blamed (note for the end of GNR) would be Axl.
Q. So this is Axl's version for Slash leaving?
F. Everybody says Axl's version and Slash's version. There is no Axl
version because what
he says is the truth. Axl doesn't lie, he only says the truth. But Slash
wanted the songs
of Snakepit on the Guns album, and Axl didn't, so he started to make it
hard to work. He
wouldn't accept a song which wasn't his.
Q. What about Duff's exit?
F. He left because he wanted a family, his daughter had been born and he
wanted time for his
family. That's what I heard, I don't know anything about the legal
process. The were friends,
but they haven't called each other for years.
Q. What's your personal opinion of:
Slash:
F. I knew him, still as a child. He has a different... voice. I don't
have any kind
of friendship with him. He knows me. Knows I'm Betta's son.
Duff:
F. I think I saw his 3 or 4 times, but we never talked alot. He seems to
be a cool guy
Matt:
F. I don't like him. The thinks too much about himself. Thinks he's
more than he
actually is.
Buckethead:
F. He's really cool, acts like a child, and is the most loving and gentil
person that
I know, not counting Axl. We're really good friends.
Brain:
F. He's fantastic, more than just cool.
Fink:
F. He was criticized for playing "Sossego", but do you know anyone else
who would have
done that? He learned that song one day before the show. Axl..Guns loves
Brazil. They feel
a conection with the fans, they really do love it, without any two face (
note: bullshit). Robin
realized that and saw Brazil in the same way. He learned alone how to play
and sing.
Q. Does Axl speak portuguese?
F. No, only some bad words.
Q. What kind of a boss is he?
F. Everyone loves him, he's always willing to hear what you have to
say. He pays well and
always wants to know what's going on, but don't lie to him because if you
do, he says"Well,
if you lie to me, do it in another place" Specially if it has anything to
do with Guns.
Q. Is it true that Sabrina is Axl's girlfriend?
F. No. He trusts Sabrina. She's a big friend.
Q. And Suellen?
F. Who?
Q. Is he in favor of Napster?
F. If it's to ressearch, see if you like it, he's in favor. But if it's
to get free music, he's
agains't it.
Q. Tell me if it's true or false:
Axl paid millions for an exorcism?
F. (laughs) Lie.
He dressed up as a prince to ask Stephanie in marriage? Who's idea was it?
F. He used a white horse... I think so. Don't know who's idea it was.
There's a brazilian VJ, Cuca, who affirms that Axl tried to be with her
and she didn't
want anything because he was short, stunk (sp?) and ugly. Do you know
anything about it?
F. Never heard anything about it, but he's not short, he must have 175cms
and I can
affirm that he takes about 2 baths a day, and ugly.. I don't think so. But
that's personal.
But I didn't know that story.
(note... she asks a couple of personal questions)
Q. Is he happy?
F. Yes! And he gets mad when people feel sorry for him, thinking that
he's unhappy. He's happy!

I agree in a lot of stuff in it.But i continue to think Matt Sorum is
cool ;-)
I think it's great to saw Matt defends Slash because it was not easy to
do cause Tobias is an Axl's friend.
So...
I agree when Fernando said Axl can't do anything about internet
'crap'...
I think it's difficult for Axl because he likes to control everything...
Maybe it's a good therapy for him ;)
Well...i really like Beta, she's just nice and i think Axl is much
better in his head with her.
Axl is great with childs too and i think it's really cool and i'm proud
of him.
I hope his hate is now gone, or just reapear for the concerts ;)
I'm happy to know his new music is brilliant too.
He's right when he said Slash's music is not so good now :\ But GNR was
a real band.Everyone gaves something to the GNR music.
I disagree with Axl when i think GNR cannot tour on little places
anymore.I think it's good to do the two things (big stadiums and more
little places) because you keep contact with fans, and with real
life....
Rolling Stones made some concerts in little places, it's not a
problem...
And i like to see Axl likes to spend hours on the net : Axl if you read
this we love u :)
We hope for the new lp very very soon, even if Slash, Duff and Izzy are
not here with you like in the past...
In a love relation, no one is to blame when things cannot do right...
But i hope one day friends will be friends...like Freddy Mercury said...
