If you only have one, and it's your first ticket in several years, you
can appear in traffic court and ask the judge to defer it. If he does,
you'll still have to pay the fine but the violation won't go on your
driving record unless you get *another* ticket within 6 months or so.

Find out who the judge is and pay him personaly at least double what the
ticket is. Or if you're kinda nervous about that, make up some sad ass
story and hope he is leniant. All in all, tickets suck. Oh yeah, buy a
radar detector. I haven't had a speeding ticket since I bought mine 6 years
ago.
SH
Keep your eyes peeled. If you see a cop, slow down. If yoiu can't be
bothered, either accept the fact that you're going to get a ticket or slow
down. If you're too tired, you should slow down anyway. Anyone who's too
tired to observe events is too tired to drive.
Prioritise. Assume that if you speed you're going to get a ticket. Is what
you're speeding for going to make you more money than the ticket is going to
cost? If so, you make a profit anyway and you can pay the ticket, stick 2
fingers up at the cops and say "so what I still profit".

My method is to drive a 1979 Toyota Pickup to and from work. Won't ever get
a speeding ticket. Never. Even in a school zone. If, perchance, the road
is downhill and the truck DOES get over the speed limit, the cop just taps
the radar gun and shakes his/her head in disbelief.
A friend of mine came up with a wonderful method. Here it goes.
-Doug was pulled over for speeding.
-Doug accepts the speeding ticket.
-Doug goes to court and instead of pleading guilty to speeding, he instead
pleads guilty to the far more serious charge of reckless endangerment.
-The judge (this is worked out ahead of time) finds Doug guilty, and slaps
him in jail, with bail posted at $300.
-Doug posts bail from the court, even before they haul his butt to jail.
-The judge sets the court date for a time in the future, say two minutes
away.
-Doug leaves.
-The judge finds Doug just skipped bail, but the charge doesn't merit
sending the cops after him. The charges are dismissed and the court keeps
the bail money.
-Since a trial was never held, Doug doesn't have anything on his record and
is able to keep driving the school bus, or delivering for large pizza
chains. Also, his insurance company never finds out that Doug was doing 92
in a 65. His insurance rates don't go up, and the county just got $300
instead of the usual $80. Expensive in the short run, but the deal of the
century in the long run.
Then, there's always the joke that ends with "Oh, no. Not another
breath-a-lyzer test!"

Sounds risky. What would've happened to Doug if he hadn't been able to leave
before the court date? He'd of been playing "find the penny" with a gay
bodybuilder named "Turk", right?
I've sometimes wondered: What would happen if you went to traffic court and
SWORE that the cop was wrong despite what his radar gun (if he even used one)
said?
Oh...and you judge people you have no knowledge of on something as
inconsequential as a traffic ticket...oh yes, that makes you a genius.....and
in fact this whole newsgroup revolves around following laws to the letter
doesn't it.....you, my friend, need to deal with your own insecurities instead
of projecting them onto others.

Believe it or not, I got a ticket for doing 65 in a 55 in a 1977 Toyota PU.
I used my defense as the Yota wouldn't go that fast and the cops radar gun
mustv been fugged up. He told me to keep it cool for 6 mos and he'd drop
the ticket.
SH
I don't know if this actually works, but its worth a shot. Obviously, paying
the ticket is nothing in comparison to the insurance points that will follow
you for years (even after the points are gone). When you go to pay the ticket,
make the amount out for slightly more (under a $1). The court then HAS to send
you a refund for the difference. So...when you get that check for 81 cents for
instance...don't cash it. Supposedly, they cannot process it until the proper
money has been cleared. Result....no points.
Again...I don't know if this works for sure but its worth a shot.
>>Then, there's always the joke that ends with "Oh, no. Not another

When I first read her post, I was thinking about that. However,
personally, I'd rather pay the ticket. :)

Try slightly more than $1. Some areas may have a policy of not refunding anything less
than a buck. (I've seen it before.)
That reminds me of a story a friend told me once. He was doing something
like 50 in a 25 mph zone, so a cop pulled him over...
COP: You're going a little fast, aren't ya pal?
FRIEND: Oh, red cars *always* look like they're going fast.
He didn't get a ticket.

Here in England, they have what's called a `speed camera' that does basically
the same thing. They're interspersed all over the country...only problem
with them was that the film is too expensive, so they rig the flash bulbs
to go off, even if there's no film in the camera...
funny story- there was a guy in London who got tagged doing 90 on the M25,
(it's the London ring road)..anyway, he gets flashed and cops send him
the regulatory pic of his little Peugeot doing 90, along with the a fine
for about 100 pounds? (not sure of the amount, recaping this from memory)
...well, this guy figures he's going to play the game...he takes a picture
of a cheque made out for a hundred quid and sends it back to them...about
a week later he gets a picture of handcuffs from the London Met police,
along with a note saying something to the effect of, `Mr. ----, we so
dearly did enjoy your humorous answer, however you still owe us 100 pounds
sterling. Please pay promptly.'
..he ended up paying the fine..

You push fast , Paal. :)
I've seen that trick. I've also seen cops just parked by the roadside with their
lights flashing.
Where I live, it's usually four lanes of bumper-to-bumper traffic going 10-20
mph over the limit (more in construction zones). There's no way the cops could
pull a car over if they wanted to, so they just play headgames with the motorists.
Next time, try this:
"If you were as smart as you think you are, then you wouldn't be a damn cop."
Maybe that will get you out of a ticket. It's worth a try, right?

I've never heard of tarketing certain colors of cars. The original

Answer: Slow down and don't speed. Some speeders are seriously dangerous

revenue makers.
Use common sense.

1-Fight every ticket you get. Take it to court...gives you a shot that
the officer won't show up due to circumstances...you get off.

at the same time you are setting this line of questioning up..... also be
asking why, when you have harmed no one and when you have an absolute right
to transport your personal property on the highways so long as you harm no
one, is this proceeding taking place and how is it valid in light of those
facts.............
you can go on and on and on,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, the courts or cities won't

I have a "stealth" radar detector (it doesn't emit the signals that the
cop's radar detector detector looks for), and used it often while I
lived in Virginia. Seemed to work, since it went off quite a few times
but I never got busted for having it.

It simply COULDN'T be that the officers' "judgement" was that you were going
over the speed limit. Golly gee, lookee here - I'm pacing this guy and he's
going 15 mph over the limit. I'd better make sure I'm using good judgement
here...

My usual answer is "because I didn't use radar - I paced you for the last
three blocks". Should be able to give them a ticket because they're too
stupid to use their rear-view mirrors when driving...

Man, you're no fun. I think you missed the point.
I commute between one city and another on an interstate. The speed limit is
55. The only time anybody drives that is when there is a cop within
sight.... even then sometimes nobody slows down except me. The normal flow
of traffic is 65 in the right lane and 70+ in the left.
I make it a point not to stick out.... I drive a white Taurus and I tend to
drive in the right lane in the middle of the stampeding herd. I also use a
Valentine One radar/laser detector, which shows my how many radars are out
there, how strong the signal is, and whether the interrogation is from the
front, rear, or side. I also rely on the Mark I Eyeballs issued to me by
God. So far, so good.... I haven't gotten a ticket in more than 10 years,
even though I speed every day.
Before I bought the radar detector, I got stopped twice in 6 months. Each
time, the trooper let me go because I was in my whites. Many police
officers practice professional courtesy when it comes to nurses.... you
never know when I might be the guy you're gonna depend on to bring your pain
meds when you've been injured on the job.
BTW, it works both ways.... I practice professional courtesy as well.... I
bust my ass to take good care of cops and their families.... and I always
tell them why.

when I drove an Alfa GTV-6, the damn thing *wouldn't* go less than 75.
It just wouldn't run well that slow. But here in VA, I know where the
cops hang out and the places they don't so you could easily speed where
needed, and slow down when you had to.
Damn I miss that Alfa. Anyone got a good one for sale?
I've got an 81/83 hybrid GTV6 that is mostly gathering dust since I

That is correct.

No difference. Professional courtesy is a priviledge. I have no right to
expect it, yet I am delighted when it is extended. In any case, I don't see
the cops as the enemy, so I've always been friendly with them on and off the
job. I've can only truthfully say that I've been hassled by a cop once,
though I've gotten plenty of tickets when I was younger. For the most part,
the cops around here are just doing their job.

It'll never happen to me. Nurses and cops both have a shitty job and we
occupy roughly the same place in the social strata. That's why there tends
to be this professional courtesy between us.

Like I give a shit? Short of me poisoning the CEO's mother, I'm not likely
to be fired. My hospital is begging for nurses.... in fact, they're paying
a bounty for each RN I can talk into working there.

I've been real happy with it as a daily driver. They really changed the
character of the engine - the 3.0 feels more like a V-8. Its calibrated
more for low-end grunt. Redline is lower. The Milano suspension seems
a bit softer than the GTV6 - say in the BMW 3-series class, as opposed
to a 911-eater like the GTV6. But its still a kick on Hwy 1 thru Big
Sur or up on 101 through the redwoods. Blew the mind of a Trans-Am
driver a month ago up on the Coast road when I got by him in a corner.
Poor guy was so shook up he had to pull over for a minute and regroup.
One of these days I'll build the ultimate GTV6 - use one of the new
24-valve 3.0's, and set the suspension back to Euro-spec.
