Diary of a Madman
This is the autobiography of Ren the Author. It is designed to
discredit myself so that I am not taken seriously by those who should
not take me seriously.
I was raised a Southern Baptist Christian by two very devout parents
who both lead Bible study to this day. My father was a Freemason who
kept his Scottish Rite book by Albert Pike out in the library. He saw
me reading it and said nothing. Many accuse Pike of starting the KKK,
I don't know about that. But I found this book fascinating. My sister
helped me to learn how to read and I would use this book to learn more
words. Both of my sisters are New Agers as well. I also liked to study
many different religions. From all this I used to ask the most
questions in Sunday school and often angered the teachers.
I tried to be a very good Christian and my parents wanted me to be
some kind of leading example for the other kids. I don't know why. I
suppose I am driven and opinionated.
My mother almost died giving birth to me and she dedicated me to God
to become his most influential preacher. But my father's name is
Celtic and associated with a lot of legend. Renfrew means "People by
the still water." Still water was thought to be where evil spirits of
the departed were. The legends of the Lady of the Lake illustrate this
belief. The English called the Renfrews "People of Raven Woods and
Fields". The Raven is sacred to a dark Celtic Goddess. The Baron of
Renfrew in some stories is associated with the Red Dragon and the
Devil. Author Bram Stoker's character Renfield with "Renfield's
Syndrome" an obsession with drinking blood. Renfield plays the servant
of "Dracula" which means "Son of the Dragon or Devil". So my family
name is kind of associated with ultimate evil, yet my mother dedicated
me to what she thought was the ultimate good.
A guy by the name of Tom wanted to stay awake at school because he had
a job at night. He took diet pills to stay awake and they almost
killed him. A strange goth girl, back when goth wasn't widely heard
of, came to Tom in the hospital. She was visiting her brother who was
in a motorcycle accident. She gave Tom a charm one night. It was a
black cross with a red un-circled upright pentagram in the center. It
looked like a red person in the center. She said "Keep this and you
won't die." Tom kept the charm and miraculously got better within a
week. All the doctors and nurses couldn't believe it. He was
frightened and came to me as I often witnessed to him about Jesus and
angelic powers and all that. So I held the charm in my hand and
something triggered inside of me when he told me the story of the goth
girl. I took the charm to Brother Gary who led our Southern Baptist
Church. He took the charm and didn't say anything. I said "Brother
Gary, help me identify this." Again he didn't say anything. I waited
for weeks. I finally confronted Gary. "What have you found out?" Gary
said "Nothing like that goes on in my town." After that, I was no
longer a Christian. I was just going to church to keep up appearances.
I then found a chain bookstore book on Wicca, Vivianne Crowely. I was
always reading paranormal books in the library for as long as I could
remember even as a devout Christian. I couldn't escape it. It was too
fascinating for me. But now that I was no longer a Christian, I was
free to be initiated as a Wiccan. A group I found. Tom started mowing
church lawns for free and I started to feel possessed by the spirits
within that charm he gave me. I felt a very strong connection to this
strange gothic girl that I have never met. My powers started to awaken
and I fell in love with her. I started to idealize a person I never
met.
My cousin is from Arkansas and I started thinking about going with him
to college there, a religious school, but intending to find people to
join a coven there. My cousin was fortunate to be friends with a
traditional family witch (not Wicca) and it was my cousin who taught
me what could be considered "real" powers. He taught me to know the
thoughts of others specifically and to call others who have the gifts
-- among other things.
We worked with the Ouija Board where I learned to talk with spirits.
Our spirit was Alice, a girl who jumped out of an airplane because it
was on fire. She connected us with a very dark spirit called "The
Warden of the Underworld" -- who gave us gifts. I was then issued an
alignment. Over the years I went from gray, to white, to black. This
is a system of traditional magick. On the board my level was 50, which
means that I am capable of being a perfect host to spirits. My gifts
are "Revelation". I can reveal any truth about anything, but mixed
with a little lie. "Star Making". If I become your fan, you will
become subculturally famous. "Control". I can make anyone do anything
I want, but a small part of what they do works against me. "Spirit
Vision" I see dead people and ectoplasm all the time. If my eyes are
open, I see it as shadows and lights. The punishment here is that this
can be thought of as an illness. So, I don't tell a lot of people.
I joined a group and met Jay who became my mentor. He is an initiate
of a traditional coven and has the mark to prove it. I did not like
Jay when I first debated with him. I was still fighting Christian
brainwashing. Though I was an initiated Wiccan, I was wish-washing
back and forth between the old Christian need to belong and my true
religious Pagan beliefs that were hidden. Jay reminded me of my
commitment and we started to practice ceremonial magick. He taught me
a lot about ceremonial magickal practices and guided me in eclectic
craft work. Jay, myself, my cousin, and many of my cousin's friends
from his hometown were students and practitioners of magick in a
Christian school. Joe was one such friend. His father was in Vietnam
and somewhat of a magickal person himself. He taught me a lot of mind
games and hypnosis.
During college I had a friend called Randy. Randy's fiance was named
Alicia. Alicia and her friend were murdered one day on a highway. They
were going back to Houston to go to school. Somebody put something in
her gas tank and her car exploded. A state trooper saw the whole
thing. Randy showed me her picture and much like that black cross
charm, Alicia's spirit stuck to me. For years Alicia would contact me
in dreams and do poltergeist stuff around me to let me know she was
there. We became partners. She showed me a lot of stuff about the
other world. Alicia has since moved on and has reincarnated.
In college the first time, I studied music, Psychology, Speech, and
Political Science. It was then that I ran out of money and decided to
join the military. My blood pressure was too high, but I used magick
to lower it in order to pass the physical. I passed a series of tests
and also because my father was a high ranking officer, I got a coveted
government job. I went to Germany for 3 years doing computer work and
journalism. I had lived in Germany for 4 years as a child. I learned
all about hardware, software, networking, databases, and security. I
even helped port VAX applications to Windows.
My cousin abandoned the craft and became a devout Catholic after
college. I only deepened my commitment to the study of metaphysics.
In 1992, I returned to the U.S. and used my G.I. Bill to go to college
for 4 more years. All in all, I went to college for over 10 years.
This time I studied History and English. I also continued my Speech
and Political Science classes which is why I can argue and persuade.
This is also the time where I started to use USENET and the internet
to connect with pagan friends and practitioners I had known during my
travels and to listen to what they learned and meet new people. It was
here that I felt that I really started to master Spiritism and my so-
called powers. I became very pretentious. In High-School I was gothic
because my friends took me to a club in Saint Louis called
"Reflections" and I met a really cool goth girl. Damn she was perfect.
I wanted to be a part of her world. I met a writer and producer for
the X-Files and started a side career as a writer.
But goth and my paganism and magickal studies didn't really have a
connection other than that girl that visited Tom in the hospital that
day.
I think that she was human but I also think that she was a host to
ghostly vampires. Tom knowingly offered me up in his place by giving
me that cross. Alicia was like a vampire, living on my attention to
keep her form and allow her to influence this world in order to exact
revenge. Once she did, she was able to go into the light. It was there
that she finally died.
I continued to study computers but didn't take many courses in
college. I went to Phoenix Arizona and got an internet related job. I
lived there for 6 years and had a great time drinking, dancing, and
having a lot of crazy times. Arizona Goths (AZGoths) were a wild
bunch. I was a member of a coven and went to Pagan conventions and
spiritual places in Arizona. I met someone I believe to be half-alien.
I dated girls with powers as great as mine. They showed me a lot of
stuff.
I transferred to Seattle where I lived for 6 years. I met the most
amazing people who have no formal metaphysical training but do have
powers. Again I participated in a coven.
I started to notice a change in the U.S. and in 2001 I was led by
dreams to start studying Japanese. I now live in Tokyo and do not
intend on returning to the U.S. I am no longer professionally involved
with hardware, software and networking. I spend my time here reading,
editing, writing, and criticizing.
I have been very rich and have wasted the money on bad habits. I have
also been very poor.
It is time for me to brag on my friends. I have a lot to brag about.
First, my alt.religion.wiccan friends. Aine <-- most loyalty --
because we know each other Hy <-- loyalty -- because we have met
several times Xandra, Aunty and Lilly Kate, Cerista, Zsarnok
You are all great people and you are all my friends. I will not say if
I know you or not because I do not have permission to say anything.
But if you must know who I am most loyal to, this would be the
ranking.
I hope not to disappoint, but this is how I feel at this time. If you
look at my friends list, you'll see a tier of groups. If you look at
their profiles, you will see that they all have thousands and
thousands of friends. If this is not a display of magickal power, I
don't know what is.
The first group consists of associates and members of our Tokyo
spiritual group. Or maybe I'm just a fan. You'll never know unless
divination is performed. Or Google is searched. "Ren + Olivia" for
example.
I will say once again, I am currently not with a Wiccan group. I am a
Wiccan who is studying with a "Spiritual" group of mostly Japanese
people who are part of the Subculture. Their friends and fans are also
likely to be interested in subcultural things and not mainstream
things. This gives my enemies the opportunity to say big deal, they
aren't mainstream talents.
The second group consists of my closest Seattle friends, not fellow
Wiccans. The Wiccan Circle is not displayed to anyone. Not even Aine,
though she knows some of my Wiccan friends. One other
alt.religion.wicca regular will meet some of my Wiccan friends soon.
The 3rd group consists of my closest Arizona friends. Mostly non-
Wiccans.
The 4th group consists of my alt.gothic friend. Not Wiccan.
The 5th group consists of U.S. artists that I know and want to support
their music.
There are a few alt.religion.wiccan friends that I have never met in
person. The only other person I don't know is Obama.
If it pleases my enemies to know, Fairuza Balk has rejected me as a
friend. :( She might even be trolling me for all I know. That's
alright though. I still think she is great. Unlike Sidney Lambe, Jack,
and a host of other people, I'm not stalking her.
You are anonymous. You jealously guard your anonymity.
The only reason anyone does something like that is to prevent
people from looking into their real life.
And yet you expect people to just believe anything you say
about yourself.
Which is simply crazy.
I didn't bother to read this because I don't trust you.
You have posted obvious lies on this group so many times that you
don't even have a reputation for honesty going for you.

Yes, I am mentioned. It is why I chose a name that starts with 'A'.
Jealousy? How telling.

Yeah. I think there is a woman posting as Sidney today.

My totem animal is the Coyote for kreiss' sake. Sidney doesn't realize
that calling me a clown is complementary.
Wow, that is profound! But the thing that *really* bugs you is that
we *have* a real life.

That's your autobiography in a nutshell. Much more succinct than
ren's.

I'm so disappointed! Where is the "I have you killfiled, but I see
the headers and I manually downloaded your post so that I could tell
you that I hate you and I'm putting you back in the killfile"
preface?? You're getting lazy. *tsk*

See aine? A trickster. Neener neener!! ;-p
Wha.. Wha..what did I miss? I encouraged a neener? Seriously is it
neener? I always spell it 'neiner'..must be the father adoptive German
Clone DNA Syndrome.
I suppose I could spell check but shoot, that would be like having
plastic surgery. So not me.
Ah, sorry got off track. I am one of the few it seems that always
keeps ren's totem coyote in mind. Makes for interesting journeys.
I actually saw a healthy weighted coyote in the field recently.
Usually they are very lean. Almost looked like a cross between that
and a wolf. I don't think they cross breed so, must have found alot of
animals that were flooded out to eat.
She smells purdy! Drool..Drool..May I nuzzle and bite her neck,
Master?

Someone has a birthday coming up. A clown doll like in Poltergeist
perhaps? I know how much you love actual clowns.
Oh, I was just remembering our serious conversation a couple of weeks
back regarding Sidneystone and what his true function here might be.
We discussed him learning lessons via the trickster route, and I think
you said you didn't think there was anyone here advanced enough to
pull that off successfully. And here is the coyote, and look who he's
with. *G*

Well, it is in Oklahoma. But that ain't saying much. ;-p

Same here! There is a pack that serenades me from my field many
nights. They are bigger than usual this year, not so scrawny
looking. And we haven't had floods. However, I did hear that some
study has found a big increase in field mice, rats, and such, due to a
couple of mild years. Good news for hawks, coyotes, and others who
are "into" that sort of thing. Not such good news for farmers trying
to keep them out of grain. Like most things, it's mostly a matter of
perspective. ;-)

Terribly frightened of them. I keep seeing Tim Curry in "It".

For shame..my bad! the word "Trickster" is defined in my head with
rens thumbnail picture. Like a See-n-Say. "The Trickster says ren".
Off day for me? Did we use that word? No matter.. Coyote = ren.
Trickster.
Raccoon/cedar waxwing = Aine. Trickster or loves the mystique of a
mask? Great for a bad hair day.

Creative mind I am. Some say beautiful. I say to them, "all my
personalities are still more interesting then your one. Now go away
Nikita has spy work to do."

Country fields here and I have to agree the mice are abundant this
year, before the floods as you say. I have run out of names to give
them. One little guy (Hubert) lives in the shelf downstairs and has a
place setting. A bottle cap for water and a spice cap for his plate.
Are you into the wild life and birds as I am? Wow, we could have alot
in common. I live among the Bald Eagles, Hawks, Owls, Ravens in our
trees and fields. Two days ago a blue heron just sat and stared at me.
They are huge. I love them. They act like they don't give a shit that
they have skinny funny legs or what people think of them. Its all good
to a Heron. lol
;-)

*LOL* Oh my, I could actually hear the voice in my head.

Yeah, we used it...I'm pretty sure...I think. But no matter! I
believe there is a law that we have to have "off" days. If we only
have "on" days, then the balance will be all out of kilter, and part
of the continent will slide into the ocean. We wouldn't want that,
now would we?

Oh, raccoon is a COOL totem! They are smart and creative and funny.
The mask is a great perk as well. *G* My spirit animals are dragonfly
and Mama Grizzly. Somehow those work for my Gemini twins, though it
sure doesn't seem like they would be very compatible.

*LOL* That reminds me of the old Boris and Natasha cartoon. I loved
those things, and the Spy vs Spy. I miss the good old cartoons. I
don't care much for the new ones.

Oh, cool! I don't get to become that well acquainted here. I have 3
dogs, and 2 of them (abandoned dogs who adopted me) love to hunt field
mice, moles, gophers...anything that gives them an excuse to dig up my
yard. I really have to watch my reactions, because they are very
proud of themselves for "helping" me and want to bring their prey to
show it to me.
I have to allow them to follow their nature as I follow mine and *try*
not to impose judgments on it. But I do have issues with the whole
"Suffering and pain and death are a necessary part of Life" thing. No
matter how hard I try to accept that, I still have deep-seated
suspicions it's a design flaw. *G*
>
> Are you into the wild life and birds as I am? Wow, we could have alot
> in common.
Yes I am. I grew up in the country, and as an only surviving child I
spent a LOT of time roaming the woods and fields and communicating
with trees and water and critters. *S* That was as natural as
breathing to me. My roots to the Mother go very deep.
When I started posting, there were about 40 birds of various varieties
sitting on my front porch. I moved their feeders under there because
it's sleeting and the forecast is for more. They have learned that
the dogs can't get through the storm doors to chase them, and I swear
some of them have taken to deliberately walking right up to the glass
to taunt the poor fellas. *LOL*
I don't like living where there is no wild life, and I won't do it
again if I can help it. I can walk around here and hear owls and
coyotes at night, and it seems very comforting to me. I love watching
the squirrels get all industrious figuring out how to raid the bird
feeders, and I've gotten a good hour's entertainment many a time
watching a squirrel sit in a tree and talk trash to the dogs who are
going nuts on the ground. And then there are the cows. Very
grounding beings to be around. I love watching the calves.
I put my leftovers out back for the critters. There are three HUGE
crows that have decided this is their own personal buffet. They
complain quite loudly if the buffet does not open on time. *lol*
> I live among the Bald Eagles, Hawks, Owls, Ravens in our
> trees and fields.
You are fortunate! I have not seen eagles on my property, but I know
there are many that nest near the lake about 5 miles from my house. I
like knowing they are around the area, at least.
> Two days ago a blue heron just sat and stared at me.
> They are huge. I love them. They act like they don't give a shit that
> they have skinny funny legs or what people think of them. Its all good
> to a Heron. lol
And that was probably the message he had for you. It's all good, no
matter how it's wrapped! *S* I love saying hello to the animals that
cross my path and send them on their way with an energy hug. Then I
think about what characteristic of theirs I need to relate to my life
or work on. I always come up with something definite.
I have also had good luck asking for dream animals to help me identify
things I need help with. They stay for awhile then go on their way
when their job is finished. Horse was around when I had a long run of
things I had to endure, because I needed stamina. Otter came when I
was taking myself too seriously. Snake had a lot to teach me about
things I was refusing to look at.
Of course, that's not to say that I am always successful in working on
the issues, by any means. Some animals have to keep coming back so
often they have their own apartments in my head. ;-p
>
Here are some of my wildlife folk. Hope to get to your post tonight.
Would love to see your squirrels. We have them a mile away in the
cemetary but they wont come here because we have so many Eagles and
Hawks in the trees.
I have 5 acres in the country.
>
> Raccoon/cedar waxwing = Aine. Trickster or loves the mystique of a

Funny, I never thought of cedar waxwings as tricksters, but I have
spent SO much time trying to figure out where they are. That sound
they make echoes from nowhere, and if they aren't moving about, there
can be an awful lot there and they still can't be seen until you
really look around.
We've got shrews. Cute little critters, though most people don't think
of em that way.

One of our dogs did that a little when she was in rescue... I suspect
we will have an awful lot of it this year.

Must be nice. Our birds are gone this winter, for the most part. Every
year I'd been here had above-average winter temps until this one, and
I'd grown accustomed to finding the birds that shouldn't be here in
the winter. Of course, we've still got a few robins out at the forest
preserves (good berry crop this year), but the house sparrows are gone
for once. Even the juncos have gone south. It is... odd. Not as
lifeless as it sounds, but it feels very different this year.

Amazing how many of them are around now. I remember seeing a first
year eagle in the dead of winter in a city park, the first Froggie had
ever seen, and that was only a couple years back. Yet now there are a
couple nests in the county, and we see them occasionally.

Otters.... lol, we finally got a good look at one this year. Watched a
beaver at dusk, from a bridge, and an otter was hiding in a den where
the beaver crawled out of the water.... they are amazing to watch. It
drifted, swimming back and forth (and occasionally on it's back)
downstream.... They have such an odd grace about them.
Anything "masked" can have what some call trickster. Me, I think both
raccoon and waxwing are mainly clever about how they get things. I
think of Coyote and fox as more trickster orientated at all times
verses just one personality of masked creatures.

They do blend in. Like the Fey, only seen if they want to be seen.
Until I nursed the injured fledgling, I had never seen one here in all
the years I have been here. That is all it took. Now they come out and
greet me everywhere.
Cold winter though so, both of us have been bundled up, hidden. I
love them. They are beautiful gentle birds and I just stare at their
mask. They look Egyptian with them.
The Cornell Lab of Ornithology has an Urban Birds Packet. They were
free a month ago. I just got mine.
It is a project to help count the birds in your area and the kind, to
see how they are using urban green spaces and habitats.
You get a poster, count sheet, packet of seed. Took a month to get so
I have mine ready for the later winter/early spring.
