If you check the UUA 'opportunities for ministry' web page, you will
find this opening already listed. Thus, they are already apparently
working through standard channels. In addition, a reading of their web
page indicates that they are also working with their District Executive.
Thus, this appears to be a situation where they are making readers of
this group aware of the opening as an additional communications channel.
As such, I wish them well in their quest.
The path of a congregation toward full time professional ministry is
sometimes a delicate one. There are often differing opinions in a
congregation as to both the desirability of such a path and the best way
to negotiate the congregational commitment and the path itself.
Sometimes it is better to make the jump all at once (as is apparently
being urged by the District Executive). Sometimes the approach chosen
by the congregation (two years of consulting ministry, hopefully
followed by full-time ministry) is better.
In my case, when we started the transition (approximately 25 years ago),
we started out with a shared UUA Extension minister, followed by three
years of a 1/2 (then later 3/4) time minister before finally getting a
full-time minister.
As the requesting congregation has a current ministerial intern, their
path to full-time ministry should hopefully be a shorter one.

And I'm so happy to see some action on this newsgroup.
I'm a member of an old congregation who has had a
settled minister pretty much continuously from about
1834. I could name-drop and say Russel Streeter, but
that would be conceited.
We're small but also growing (due in large part to
our present minister) who may be a saint. We aren't
sure. He comes to us from a very long journey which
I won't get into now.
We still have a few old-school Christian Universalists
among us, to Christian/Jewish couples who need a place,
to out and out pagans. Yet we function just fine with
who and what we have. It's a lovely, lively,
modern congregation in a lovely old 19th century
church. I'm so very glad to be here.
I also wish the WVUU church in Arizona well with
their church and minister search. The process itself
is often an exciting time.
