APS: Teacher Training Programs

Applied Scholastics also trains teachers to apply study technology
and runs successful programs in many countries which accomplish this.
These programs supply needed teaching skills based on L. Ron Hubbard's
methods and rekindle the infectious enthusiasm for learning that
every good teacher brings to his classroom.

Teachers throughout the world are today giving new meaning to what
they do. Education Alive, for instance, the Applied Scholastics
affiliate
which delivers L. Ron Hubbard's study technology in South Africa
and other parts of the continent, was established in 1975 and since
then has trained more than 2 million students. Greatly helping to
improve the deplorable educational standards for Blacks in that
troubled
land, Education Alive has also trained literally tens of thousands
of teachers since its inception. In one teachers' college, for
instance,
the dropout rate for teacher trainees fell dramatically to only 2
percent after Education Alive services.

In South Africa, L. Ron Hubbard's study technology has been taught
to 2 million underprivileged children.

When Mr. Hubbard visited South Africa in the early 1960s, he
predicted
a series of massive social upheavals and a severe rift between
Black
and White communities there. To avert disaster, he advised measures
and provided the technology that would enable the country's large
Black population to become literate.

The appreciation and increased hope and human dignity resulting
from
Education Alive's programs is clear from this teacher's remarks:

"I stand like a warrior to conquer all difficulties I have come
across
with much ease. The entire world has become a phenomenon that needs
restudy and to be observed with a different perspective....''

Encouraged by Education Alive's results, major corporations have
provided financial support for its vital work.

As one teacher wrote, "Education Alive has rescued me, and saved
the lives of many pupils, students and teachers, as well as
employees.
I honor L. Ron Hubbard and his successors for the work they have
done for the African child. Everybody who has heard these lectures
is thirsty for further lessons and, at the same time, in a hurry
to go out and experiment with these wonderful methods of
teaching.''

In the People's Republic of China, a country with many millions of
illiterate people, Applied Scholastics International has been
active
since 1984. Since then, more than 5,000 teachers and industrial
managers
have been trained in study technology.

In the Yunnan provincial capital city of Kunming, junior high
school
English teachers are now required by the City Education Bureau to
use the Chinese translation of Mr. Hubbard's study materials for
their teacher training.

The Shandong Education Commission cosponsored a correspondence
course
for teachers to allow L. Ron Hubbard's study technology to reach
the population more quickly. And the major textbook publisher in
China, in preparation for more extensive use of the study
technology
throughout the country, trained its editorial staff in Applied
Scholastics
courses.

In Costa Rica, extensive teacher training on study technology has
resulted in a more rapid and thorough application of English as a
second language for teachers. In recognition of the role Mr.
Hubbard's
study technology has played in raising the standard of education
there, a representative of the Costa Rican Ministry of Education
presented a plaque to Applied Scholastics at its twentieth
anniversary
celebration in Los Angeles in 1992.

"On behalf of Costa Rica, we are pleased to present this token of
our appreciation to Applied Scholastics for its support in the
teaching
of English to Costa Rica's teachers,'' said Dr. Humberto Perez.

"We congratulate Applied Scholastics on this anniversary and hope
that its relationship with Costa Rican education will grow and
strengthen
in the future.''

A long-term professor of English at aCalifornia university had
this to say about the results of study technology:

"I have never felt so good about my work nor achieved such
consistent
academic successes as I have since I incorporated the study
technology
of L. Ron Hubbard into my classes. No teacher should enter a
classroom
without this knowledge. No student should exit a school without
this
knowledge. This is what we all should have known long ago and
