A mysterious critic called me and asked me to post his request on the
internet. He needs some suggestions for a plane banner. It can be
maximum 29 characters, and may not be offensive. The plane will fly a
few hours. Each character costs money, so make it short. My current
ideas I told him:

XENU RULES

OT3 = SPACE ALIENS

GO OT8 FOR $450,000

OPERATION CLAMBAKE

REMEMBER LISA MCPHERSON

The banner will also have a volcano symbol on both sides.

This will cost a lot of money, but the idea is 1. to be in the media,
2. to provoke a chain enturbulation that will be remembered in the
future. It will cost a huge amount of money, but he will try to get
funding from some psychiatrists and drug companies (Eli Lilly?) who lost
business because of scientology.

Btw, scientology shouldn't try to annoy the banner advertising company.
They have been fully briefed, the (part-time) pilot is a psychiatrist
who has also counseled ex-scientologists.

I have seen a plane banner in, I think it was an old Freedom Magazine, which
said Psychiatry Kills--or something to that effect.

CULT OF GREED

All depends who you address of course, but I think
Time pinpointed it very good. And we should keep
that alive. Short, and efficient. Makes people
wonder, and would get attention. :)

I would pay for a letter if I someone promised me
a photo of it in the air!!!!! I'll send the money
straight away.

Yours faithfully, Andreas Heldal-Lund - Adm. TOXE CXI

Depends on the target and what questions you would like the media to ask
afterwards. My suggestion, and the one I may use next time I picket
Cedars is FREE XENU! Keith Henson

If this is to make the scientologists mad, then use Xenu. If it is
to get serious attention from the media or warn people that
still know little about CoS, then I would say CULT OF GREED

Not many know who Xenu is, and if the media does not explain
to people the banner could be of little effect. It's a danger
to be to internal.

Sorry but I told you that it may not be offensive. This is because of
aviation regulations. Remember, it should enturbulate, not offend.

True enough, but flying from the back of an airplane, FACTNET.ORG
is just an internet address. Nothing more. Just another
advertisement of something on the internet. Perhaps viewers will
think it has to do with the airplane itself, how are they to know?
How is anyone to think that url has anything to do with the cult?

I would suggest

or

I would suggest Factnet is better because it is two common words;
'entheta' is not. Of course, 'entheta' would hit net-enabled
Scientologists.

The WWW will alert people that it is a Web page. I think the
public is at this level of awareness of the Net.

I hereby encourage all earthlink.net users to leave for a provider whose
email and Usenet messages are not boycotted by the rest of the net, and
for ISPs to continue to block earthlink.net email and Usenet messages from
Earthlink, until earthlink.net *stop* the flow of junk email and spam.

An airplane banner is no place for inside jokes or allusions to Scn
esoterica such as Xenu or BTs. I like the sign that Wayne Whitney
carries at his pickets in San Francisco:

SCIENTOLOGY IS BAD (18 letters)

If you have room and money enough, then append the FactNet URL (in
lowercase letters), because it's easy to remember and points to all
the entheta an ARSCC recruit will ever need.

After looking over all the suggestions -- mostly good to excellent, folks,
a few silly to obscure -- I decided that "REMEMBER LISA MCPHERSON" would be
the one. After all, what is the picket about, who is it for, what message
do we* want to send, and to whom?

The picket is about the senseless negligent killing of a young woman, not
the various agendums of the picketers. It's not about FactNet, Clambake,
or Xen/mu. The picket _is_for_Lisa_. Please shed a tear as you reflect on
that. If anything can unite a bunch of misfit quarreling critics, that
should be it. ;-)

The message we want to send is that no matter how much "Religion, Inc."
wishes to utterly forget her in its faceless uncaring bureaucracy,
_some_precious_few_ refuse to allow her life to be swept away so easily.
Once her death is avenged, those responsible at whatever level have dearly
paid for this crime, and her family can close this painful chapter in
their lives, perhaps we can let it rest. Until Justice is done, we shall
not relent. This is the high moral ground.

The target audience is essentially the populace of the Clearwater area,
not the clams. I would say that most residents will recognize her name, or
it will be at least vaguely familiar -- how many articles have appeared in
the Tampa Trib. & St Pete Times? News spots on radio and TV? 'Nuff said.

All the other stuff -- the URLs, the information, the photos etc., will be
on a hundred different leaflets and be discussed in a thousand
conversations with passers by, in coffee shops and lunchrooms. The clams
will do their best to upset us, to interfere in any way they can. That's
fine as far as it goes; they won't present a good image of themselves. We
will let them put a face on their "church," we will put a face on the name
of Lisa McPherson.

*Yes, count me in.

"REMEMBER LISA MCPHERSON"
