I study magic as a hobby because it shows how easily a person can be
fooled just by being misdirected. Cults do this.

Great videos. I'd seen the basketball pass video before, but not the
card trick. I'm posting soon on something I call "false ratification"
which, like misdirection, is used both in magic and cult control. FR
involves providing a real phenomenon, but hijacking its significance.
A simple example of this might be the euphoric state that is a natural
outcome of physiological effects, but is presented as proof of a
guru's wisdom and knowledge. Magic is almost entirely built on
providing "normal" evidence and giving it an abnormal explanation.

Good illustrations.that help explain why Scientologists aren't stupid,
