ANZO:

Brush Fires in New South Wales.

Within hours of the first alarms, our VM's stepped in to Adi rural
firefighters -- and many interstate relief teams-- with LRH assist tech,
locationals and basic emergency handlings for the dangerous
environment.

As the I HELP ANZO VM IN CHARGE, Ben Lawrence sees it, the
push to make every ANZO Scientologist a Volunteer Minister could
not have come too soon. Dozens of VMs were dispatched to several
on site and fir depot locations. The firefighters response:
overwhelmingly appreciative...

.VM Andrea Drew said that without question it was the most
rewarding experience of her life and she encouraged every ANZO
Scientologist to be an active, effective VM.

Then Special Guest Ben Shepard from on of the fire stations aided by
our VM's, took the microphone to tell of the phenomenal results of
the assists and other aid provided by our VM's He was later toured
through AOSH ANZO and presented with a Dianetics book...

GENEVA

The UN, in an effort to encourage volunteerism throughout the world
billed 2001 as "The Year of the Volunteer". At their year ending
conference in Geneva, the UN hosted 400 delegates from 52
countries, including one entity that transcended national boundaries,
The Church of Scientology International. Our representatives
included the conferences' only participant with volunteer experience
at Ground Zero: Class V Auditor Irnia Lohmann of Hamburg

Addressing the delegates on the work of Scn Volunteer Ministers
around the world were President I HELP International, Mr. Arlo
DiLorenzo, and Irina. Both were very warmly received. In fact, one
delegate from The Gambia stood up after the presentation and
proclaimed, "I know my friends from the Church of Scientology are
working in my country and their work is appreciated"

USA

Washington DC based field auditor Lee Turbush is doing something
about it (dissemination) Lee opened a new Life Improvement Center
in Alexandrea Virginia's main shopping mall, just as the holiday
season started. And by the time that season ended he had helped
more that 500 people take their first steps on The Bridge.

UNITED KINGDOM

East Grinstead now has a new Life Improvement Center, thanks to
one of the UK's most ambitious disseminators., Class IV field auditor
and OT VI Gaby Gadiot. Her production record as a Field Staff
Member is quite the model for other UK Scientologists, witness the
fast growing team that has come together to open the new center....

RUSSIA

The Mission of Nadezhda Nerobova and Igor Klipinitser in Chelney
in the far reaches of Russia formed just over one year ago. The
Chelney Mission is now placing more that 100 new people on the
introductory services each and every week.

GREECE: At the Athens Mission, with their own 30 main
translation unit, mission holder Michel Czimbalmos and his staff are
not only forming more and more into one of the world's next Scn
orgs, they are preparing the ground for the 10 missions that will
surround what will ultimately by Athens Org. Already they're
expanding beyond their shores to a new mission on the island of
Cyprus.

ENGLISH SPEAKING WORLD

The Encyclopedia Britannica, which also hosts a web site now
includes a full description of the Theta-Mest theory, the three parts
of man and The Factors -- and all of it is directly drawn for LRH
books and What is Scn. It also recommends Scn: the Fundamental of
Thought and Scn 8-8008 as "further reading".

THE MIDDLE EAST

ASHO Ethics Specialist Course student and New OT V Ali Shaw and
Class IV Auditor Susan Hanasab teamed up to translate The Way to
Happiness into their native language of Farsi -- a language shared by
50 million people in Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Tajikistan.
Already 30,000 copies have made it into the hands of Afghanis,
thank to The Way to Happiness Foundation and Ali and Susan.

JAPAN

In the last 3 months Tokyo Org as added 56 additional staff, brining
them to a total of 248, while they are now delivering more than 150
Intro services every week and their sales of the Scientology
Handbook in Japanese topped all foreign releases. And ANZO's first
ever Japanese NOT auditor, Hiroko Fukuda has just graduated the
Flag Class IX Internship and returned to AOSH ANZO!

CENTRAL AFRICA UPDATE:

Saint Hiller Maryse Fournial, now has a substantial professional
force carrying the message of Dianetics and Scn throughout
RWANDA and beyond. A 61 person delegation of international law
experts who recently received three weeks of intensive training
seminars on Dianetics and Scn. They have since expanded into
neighboring nations of The Congo, Burundi, Tanzania and Uganda.

SEATTLE:

Mark Arnold, the Executive Director of Seattle Org and his Clear
Expansion Committee held the Org's gala 45th Anniversary dinner at
the home of the winningest team in American baseball history. The
2001 Seattle Mariners. Yes the swung for the fences and held their
event at Safeco Field, Seattle multimillion dollar sports facility.
Complete with a huge welcome message on the scoreboard
commemorative photos taken in the Mariners dugout and a tour of
the stadium that ended with attendee bat in hand taking swats at the
real live baseballs pitched to them n the batter's cage. To the Seattle
Org and all Seattle Scientologists, here's a standing ovation from The
Auditor.

[Note: These idiots think this is some kind of PR coup. For the right
price I could throw my grandson's birthday party at Safeco Field.]

Anyone have access to a new Enc. Britannica to verify this?

I have just come, over time, to not trust everything that
the Co$ says.

I I said minutes ago on another thread, Britannica has also a lot of
anti-scn tricks. But since the criminal cult pays with its stolen monies, it
is neverthelmess able to keep on selling its fraudulous "services" thru such
sites as Britannica.

A shame.

We shoudd write to the Charity commission right now. Her is one exemple of
what I wrote to them days ago:

The Charity Commission, United Kingdom
Harmsworth House
13-15 Bouverie Street
London
EC4Y 8DP
United Kingdom

mail :roger....@worldnet.fr

Dear Sirs and Commissioners,

I'm writing you to give you more date pertinent to your perfectly valid
refusal of the "17 th NOVEMBER 1999 APPLICATION FOR REGISTRATION AS A
CHARITY BY THE CHURCH OF SCIENTOLOGY (ENGLAND AND WALES)".

Indeed, as an ex-director and founder of a scientology organization in
France, and as an ex "OT, minister, auditor etc of that group", I can assure
you that you were totally right about the fact that scientology cult is in
no way a true religion, neither a "charity" or non-profit entity.

Now, I'm also considered as one of the expert critics of the cult,
world-wide, and I've recently been asked before french courts as a witness
against the scientology cult; the cult makes tremendous efforts to discredit
me, but I don't care a of its libelous statements.

I don't know if you have already been informed that almost at the same time
where you refused the application of scientology UK, the cult was spending
enormous PUBLICATION efforts so as to reinforce its self-called religious
image.

Indeed, as you'll be able to see into the essay I wrote - attached to this
letter - scientology had already done some fantastic and unprecedented
efforts so as to "prove" it is religious. It has paid scholars wherever it
could to make expertises proving it is a religion. But any of those reviews
are biased and presenting only the APPARENT side of the cult.

Now, some others having not paid by the cult are presenting lots of "other
truths" about it. One of them is Dr Kent, from Alberta University, Canada,
whose last book "From Slogans to Mantras", does disclose much about
scientology and other cults.

If I presume you could be interested by my own study, it is because no other
such study has ever been done on this topic :"How a group -religious or not-
uses its own publications to prove it could be religious".

No other group, ever, has tried this. Scientology efforts are unique.

Now, after you've read and checked the data in the essay, you could also go
further to discover if any religion or cult - or even, any commercial
company - has such profit rates as scientology does. It can be estimated
around 1:10 (the ratio between hard-sellers and attorneys pays in the cult,
and those "delivereing products" is also 10:1).

Scientology is in fact getting more than US $ 440000, something like £
350000 if I don't err, from every person going to the highest point of its
self-called spiritual progression. No other group asks such amounts, it's
evident, and certainly, no other "religion".

Scientology pretends nevertheless that a "staff" could get all those
"progression levels" for free. But this is false, since such staffs are
asked to sign 1 billion year contracts of slave work, and to sign one
invoice for every new "service" taken from the cult.

If the staff leaves the cult before 1 billion year, he's supposed to pay all
those pre-signed invoices, amounting to hundred of thousands of pounds for
staffs having reached the so-called upper levels. This is called a
"freeloader debt", and scientology goes sometimes as far as using threats of
justice to get this so-called debt back.

Still better, such a debt incurred by having been a staff for years or
decades, can be much higher than the total "salaries" paid during the same
period (20 pounds a week is high salary there) so the cult is litterally
ruining the staff, if he remains, and ruining him, if he leaves.

Not to speak of incredible violations of human rights, witnessed times after
times before courts.
Scientology has not really changed since Justice Latey labeled it a criminal
cult in High Courts, London.

Therefore, I'm asking you from the inside of my heart to consider any
decision you could take in favour of that cult.

You can ask me as a witness before your Commission, as often as you want.

Sincerely and Respectfully yours,

Roger Gonnet

Weren't they called "Dianetics Life Improvement Centers"?
I recall something like that here in Las Vegas, but can't find
anything about it on the scientology web pages.

I have access to the online version of the full Encyclopedia Britannica.

I could not find anything about the theta-mest theory.

I first tried searching for "theta" but it turns up a bunch of
articles about math and stuff.

<Barbie>Math is HARD!</Barbie> [1]

Searching on "ron hubbard" brings up a 5-section article on Scientology
written by John Gordon Melton. The second page, "Hubbard's early life
and beliefs," contains a paragraph (5 sentences) on thetans and MEST. As
far as I can see, the word "theta" does not appear in the article,
although the word "thetan" does.

The section on "Controversy and present status" contains 6 paragraphs
listing the IRS tax status revocations starting in 1958; the FDA raid;
the GO infiltrations & convictions; and the 1993 IRS reversal. It
mentions continuing problems, including recent accusations of fraud and
harassment, as well as the copyright fights.

Under additional reading, it mentions "What Is Scientology?,"
"Dianetics," "Scientology 8-8008," "Science of Survival," "Scientology:
fra terapie til religion," "La Chiesa di Scientology" (coincidentally
ALSO written by J. Gordon Melton), "The Road to Total Freedom,"
"Renunciation and Reformulation," "Scientology: Theology & Practice of a
Contemporary Religion," and "Bare-Faced Messiah."

A search on "mest" brings up just one hit - the same article on
"Hubbard's early life and beliefs" that I mentioned above.

I'd like to see an article with less unquestioning acceptance of Scn's
misinformation, but I'd hardly call the article a win for Scn.

Incidentally, a search on "Scientology" in the EB brings up a hit on
"religion" which has a couple of tables showing number of adherents
worldwide and
in the US for major religions. Scientology doesn't appear on either of
