It is likely to be a terrorist attack. But who initiated it- that's unknown

Pentagon is still on fire, part has collapsed. A couple of car bombs
in different offices in DC, unconfirmed officially, but a neighbor
who works as a guard at GAO offices said the State Department and
one other building were hit.
One plane crashed outside of Pittsburgh, don't know the cause.

Myself, I'm surprised it took as long as it did for some terrorist group ( ok,
alleged terrorist group ) to figure out that at any given time the skies over
the U.S. are filled with huge flying bombs. All you have to do is convince
yourself that the deaths of a planeload of civilians, as well as huge numbers
of people on the ground, are somehow justified by your personal political
agenda. Then find someone willing to die who agrees with you. It is impossible
to protect every such target from attacks like this. I suspect that more was
not done to prevent this because such a scenario is too horrible to
contemplate.
My condolences to the families of the victims of this unconscionable act.

The president of United States wants to pay money and more money of american
taxes just to "protect" USA. But what against does he want to protect USA?

The first report I saw on the pentagon said it had been destroyed.
I wondered how big a nuke it would take to 'destroy' that big concrete

Everyone was staring at the smoke and gaping hole from the first plane,
when people started yelling - then you saw the second plane as it hit
and burst into flames. I still feel nauseous.

Roger is pointing out that there is not much that can be done against hijackers who have
taken over planes and turn them into bombs.. a terrible, horrific act as it is. Spending
money on something like "stars wars" would not have aided this turn of events.
Do not jump on me, please. My country is north of the border. We are affected indirectly
by this horrific attack, and we are standby here, ready to send aid and blood when
needed. I am type O positive, one of the universal donor types. There were four hour
line ups here to donate blood, and I was told to donate tomorrow (meaning today or any
time this week).
