The term Tone 40 seems to have two completely opposite definitions-
both official. It is surprising how often this happens within
Scientology. It is also a characteristic of NewSpeak the invented
language found within George Orwells classic 1984. NewSpeak was a
language invented by the EngSoc Party to limit thought and make
dissent impossible. I am not aware that LRH read the book but his own
invented jargon is similar in many ways.

Definition One. Serenity of Beingness. This is the definition found on
the Tone Scale chart found in every Org and sounds something like
Buddhist Enlightenment.

Definition Two. This tone 40 is all about shouting at ashtrays and
pushing them around if they do not move by themselves (which in theory
they should.) This is the Tone 40 we see in the Sea Org where
superiors scream at and abuse their underlings-and sometimes even
punch them.

This Tone 40 is all about domination through will and ego. It is as
far from the Tone 40 on the chart as it is possible to get.

Which is the real one? In a sense it does not matter. Scientology is
full of these contradictions. They exist to ensure that management and
LRH are always in the clear. Whatever goes wrong the Tech is always
right and the individual is always wrong.

Almost.

Although shouting takes place in the drill the shouting is not Tone
40. It is jsut part of the drill.

However you are totally and absolutely correct about this.

And to top things off one can always jump out a plane and Tone 40
themself to splat on the ground 4 miles below them.

It's just wodnerfull all the fun that one can have with Tone 40.

Such a magical place to be on the magical Tone Scale.

Then again I think if I were going to engage in an act of the 2D kind
with my wife I would prefer to skip the Tone 40 baloney on it and just
enjoy it to its fullest where it truly is way down yonder on the tone
scale.

Tone 40. So cool. So calm. So serene.
