Elevating humanity through education and the arts.
Creating a Narconon on the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation.
November 7, 2004. The evening began with the beat of a ceremonial drum
made from buffalo skin, the drumstick from elk. Lakota Spiritual Man,
Ben Brown Wolf, chanted a prayer song used for healing purposes. "The
beat of the drum, like the beat of the heart gives spiritual energy,"
he explained. "The drum is alive, everything is alive, even a house
radiates the life of people within." Thus Ben Brown Wolf introduced
over 100 people to the spiritual heritage of his people, the Lakota
Indian, native to America.
The place was the studios of artist Robert Schoeller in Clearwater,
Florida. The event was the unveiling of his painting of "Sakakawea,"
the Indian woman who served as the guide for Lewis and Clark as they
explored land west of the Mississippi. The event also introduced the
Humanity Philanthropic Foundation and their plans to put a Narconon=AE
drug rehabilitation program on the Cheyenne River Sioux Indian
Reservation in Eagle Butte, South Dakota.
Nancy Newman grew up in North Dakota next to an Indian Reservation.
Her youthful concept of "Indians" were inebriated men lying on park
benches, not the brave indigenous people who believed in spiritual
ways and lived in harmony with nature.
Having discovered Dianetics, the self help best seller by L. Ron
Hubbard, Nancy knew that she could and should help people. Her quest
led her back to the Dakotas where she began to interest tribal leaders
in Narconon, the drug rehabilitation program using Hubbard's
technology with an 87% success rate.
At Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation in Eagle Butte, South Dakota, she
saw strong, spirited Indians who possessed confidence in themselves
and their future. One of the key programs at Eagle Butte called "The
Red Road" works to give back to the Indians their heritage, history
and spiritual beliefs.
The American Indian didn't just have their land taken from them.
Rifles and ammunition were taken away. Government rations, wheat, corn
and diseased cows were given to them instead - things they were not
used to. If they were found performing traditional ceremonies, rations
were cut off. Children were sent to boarding school and not allowed to
speak their native language. They were taught that Indian ways were
the work of the devil. Some tribes took their ceremonies "underground"
and secretly passed their heritage down to their young. It wasn't
until 1978 that Indians were "allowed" to practice their religious
traditions. The Red Road Program acknowledges the need of Native
American Indians to have and be proud of their heritage.
At the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation in Eagle Butte, Nancy Newman,
Jeff and Lynn Haney were given twenty minutes to explain the Narconon
program to Ben Brown Wolf and other addiction counselors as they sat
around a "treaty table." An hour and half later they were still
talking. They gave each of them "Nerve Assists" and "Touch Assists,"
which alleviate pain and discomfort and put a person in communication
with his body-vital tools used on the Narconon Drug Rehabilitation
program.
Ben Brown Wolf knew instantly. "I want to do this Narconon program."
he said.
Assisting Native Americans in establishing their own Narconon Drug
Treatment Facility on the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation is the
first project of the Humanity Philanthropic Foundation. "Assisting" is
key to the program, for it will be run by the Indians themselves.
Detox and Withdrawal counselors will be trained in the Narconon
Out-patient Program right here in Clearwater.
The Narconon program is greatly needed on the Cheyenne River Sioux
Reservation. Raymond Uses the Knife, Jr., the Vice Chairman of the
Cheyenne River Sioux nation was very concerned about the influence of
drugs and alcohol on the youth of his nation, especially when
twenty-six young people committed suicide this past year. It inspired
him to write a song. A video presentation of his story and song was
played for the group at Schoeller's studios-"The Trail of Tears." "You
lay so peaceful in my heart," the song ended. 'Your friends, together
we found the trail left behind, the trail of tears."
The audience was moved. Intentions of great people came together that
night for this presentation. Robert Schoeller had wanted to do
paintings of Native American Indians. It was suggested that he contact
Nancy Newman, who just happened to have lunch with Brenda Dvorak, head
of the national council for the 200th Anniversary of Lewis and Clark.
When Nancy showed Robert's work to Brenda and then to Tex Hall,
President of the National Indian Congress, it was decided: Robert
would paint a portrait of Sakakawea to be presented at the Anniversary
of Lewis and Clark ceremonies in 2006. More than that - prints would
be sold creating income for the upcoming Narconon program
on the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation in Eagle Butte.
On November 7, 2004 the painting "Sakakawea" was unveiled at Robert
Schoeller's studios to a standing ovation. The beauty of the painting
expresses the hope of the future for the Lakota Indian. It heralds the
resurrection of their majesty and spirituality as they are freed from
the harmful effects of drugs and alcohol through their own Narconon
program.
Guests enjoyed Buffalo hors d'oeuvres, courtesy of James Pete Hale,
the General Manager of Buffalo "Ma-Daa-Gah-Dee" Enterprises, New Town,
North Dakota. They mingled; many bought Buffalo meat to take home;
others signed on to take part in the Foundation or to help financially
by donating or purchasing a Sakakawea print.
The Humanity Philanthropic Foundation, started by Linda Jo Struthers
and Nancy Newman, is a non profit organization with an IRS 501c3. Its
mission is to elevate humanity through education and the arts. Another
of its projects is the American Literacy Contest which will
familiarize students in public schools with three barriers to study
discovered by L. Ron Hubbard, and guide them to handle them.

As far as front groups are concerned, when will Dave Touretzky confess
that he is a psychiatric agent and troll, who got a grant from a
psychiatric movement? Wonder if there were verbal agreement between the

designed to take as much money from as many people and give exactly

standards according to the normative understanding of those words.
Hubbard was a sick man who should have been given proper medical care
but because he was not thousands of people have been defrauded, hurt and
many many families destroyed because of his fear of being found out a
fraud. Not accepting criticism form any one and brooking no dissent from
within the ranks is tyrannical. Any so-called religion that does that
is neither religious nor humane. I include many branches of the
so-called "christian" church in that assessment. Doubts, questions,
dissent should be welcomed by any organization anywhere - nothing is
perfect, nothing is complete, and no one person has ALL the answers for
everyone neatly sewed up in a package. Hubbard's scientology and
dianetics is nothing more than the delusional fantasy of a money hungry
power obsesssed fool.
And that dear Barbara is the truth like or not. Your endless foia
requests to prove whatever your current delusions are will be nothing
but failures because the information you seek does not and never has
existed - except in your totally messed up head. Get some real help,
put down the cans, seek real scientific help and see how musch better
your life could be - try it you might actually be surprised.

The American Indian Movement tried to end the activities of the plastic medicine men. But
they got nowhere. So maybe we should just laugh at these people...unless they are
competing for Indian scholarships at Harvard.
What's a little hucksterism anyways? Marketing is made in the U.S.A. So what if all the
plastic gewgaws they sell misrepresent our cultures? We could always try selling little
priest dolls with vials of holy water and fake communion wafers. But would they sell?

As Vine Deloria, says "White people in this country are so alienated from their own lives
and so hungry for some sort of real life that they grasp at any straw to save themselves".
The problem is that real Indigenous people rarely make the grade for non-Indian experts.
How many times has someone said to me, "How can you be an Indian when you have green
eyes?'..as if they had a monopoly on any kind of albinism. I answer in one word:
"Colonialism".
That shuts them up for a moment, but it doesn't solve the problem.
Janet McCloud points out that even Indians sell our ceremonies for a fee. "This is just
another theft from us." She said. "Some of these people spend about 15 minutes with an
elder. Then they become official representatives of various Indian people. It's absolutely
disgusting".
As McCloud says, Indians like Sun Bear, who markets our heritage are a serious threat.
They may even be as dangerous as the fake chiefs who signed away our land in fake
treaties. Some even create new tribes composed mostly of Euroamericans. Anyone who is
undermining our culture is complicit in the genocide we are trying to overcome.
And what would white folk say if we started dressing up as priests, setting up our own
churches and circulating collection plates? Look what happened to AIMer, Russell Means
when he went to a school halloween party with his son. He painted his face white and
dressed up as a "white man". Indians chortle at the thought, but the people at the party
were embarrassed and confused. They did not know how to react.
People are scared if they can't use familiar categories to label things the way they see
them. So the fake Indian business thrives. It is based on the search for roots by a
rootless people. It feeds on a 500 year old guilt complex.
The colonizers sense that Indigenous philosophy makes more sense than theirs. We have
earthbound problems that require earthbound answers. They want to pray to some unseen
holy entity for direction and they aren't getting any. "Poor little lambs who have lost
their way". Maybe we can't make them see that the answer is in themselves. But we can all
do our bit to stop encouraging these plastic medicine people.
