Wife waits for news of missing husband

When Angie Burton returned home one night, Chris Burton was not there.
Now that Chris' truck has been located, she just wants to find him.

PALM HARBOR - Angie and Chris Burton planned to make that particular
Saturday a movie night, spending the evening at home in Fox Chase with
their 14-month-old son, Joe.

After work, Angie went out to run some errands, and Chris, her husband
of two years, went home to take a shower. By the time Angie returned
to their apartment in Fox Chase, Chris was gone. She figured he had
gone to work out at the gym.

But he never came back home.

For more than a week, Angie Burton and her relatives have kept a vigil
by the telephone as investigators in Pinellas and Lee counties look
for clues and plead with the public for help in Christopher Jeffrey
Burton's suspicious disappearance.

Burton, 36, was last seen about 8 p.m. March 28 in the Clearwater
area, Pinellas County sheriff's officials said.

Two days later, Lee County deputies responded to a report of an
abandoned truck on a desolate dead-end road in Fort Myers. The 2000
Toyota Tacoma had its engine running, lights on and a flat tire,
authorities said. The glove compartment had been ransacked, and
Burton's wallet with his identification cards was still in the truck.

So far, investigators have no answers. They have asked the public for
help in where Burton might be.

Meanwhile, Angie Burton, 27, is trying to cope, said her aunt, Judi
Brown, who is speaking for the family.

"We all just kind of stick together, spend time together," said Brown,
who works as an advocate for crime victims in Colorado. She flew in
last week to be with Angie and the rest of her family.

They're not leaving the house for fear of missing an important call.
Angie finally got an answering machine for the phone, just in case.
And her family is trying to keep her as busy as possible because
otherwise "she just walks around and cries," her aunt said.

Chris Burton moved to Florida about 12 years ago from New York. He and
Angie met when she was 17, and they fell in love, Brown said. Two
years ago they married.

"Angie's just devastated; he's the love of her life," Brown said.
"They are the cutest couple, and truly, they like each other; they do
a lot of laughing. They have dreams together; they've built a life
together."

Burton is a doting father for the couple's 14-month-old son, Joseph
Jeffrey, Brown said.

Both make a living working for Angie's father's golf supply business,
Liquid Ed Inc., in Tarpon Springs. Burton is an avid golfer,
frequently playing in benefit tournaments for charities. He enjoys
building remote-controlled airplanes and ships, and he lifts weights,
Brown said.

For now the family is waiting and wondering, mulling over every
possible scenario, Brown said. "It's a constant: What if this? What if
that?"

And Angie Burton can't stop crying.

"She just keeps saying, "I want my husband to come home. Please, God,
let him be all right,"' Brown said. "That's all she keeps saying."
