I floundered around for an explanation. "It's American Falun Gong," said
Mai."
The comparison is inept, as Scientology is not banned from the US.
What? Falun Gong isn't banned from the US either, and Scientology
hasn't even set foot in mainland China, because they know what would
happen. Both are superstitious cults that want to infiltrate political
systems, so I would say there is some basis for comparison.
Yet.

“I think that the protections that we enjoy for freedom of worship exist
so long as we don’t step over the line. When religious worship and
belief cross over into things like fraud, victimization of others and
the disruption of the political arena, that protection is no longer
appropriate.”

Last I checked, Falun Gong didn't have an RPF. They're going toe to toe with
a very repressive government.
C
Scientology, even with with Tom Cruise going ape sh!t on Brooke
Shields, ain't close to what happened with Falun Gong in China:

Chinese government banned FLG because thousands were dead due to
cultish teaching, and FLG getting used by some in China as political

Can't the same paragraph above be used to describe scientology?
The Chinese officials also cracked down on the Amway/Quixtar MLM org
at point.
Landmark Education has held a few beginning seminars in mainland
China, but I'll bet their "guest event" recruitment method has been
modified somewhat. If it hasn't, they're sure to get into trouble one
of these days.
