Bonjour!
Opening quote from TC is great. (The English appears to be subtitled, i.e.
we can hear all our great critics' voices :-) )

Actually, the French is dubbed over in the soundtrack to the extent of
muffling the critics' voices. But it's a great show that entailed a
lot of work. France 2 should probably do an English language edit and
syndicate it.

LOLOL! I'm only up to the 46:00 point during the Big Secret segment,
where Bruce Hines does a blow-by-blow exposition of the OT III / NOTS
materials.
Poor Tom.

What's missing for me, since the TV has some theories re TC,(I don't share
some of these), is the theory that DM had choosen TC so as to get him
elected as a congressman first, then as a governor, then as US and WWide
president.
I'm almost certain that that has been since long the intention behind that.
DM knows he would'nt ever win any election; but TC is an actor and could
have a political doom... no longer now.

I'm only on the opening scene (00:37) and I can already observe a huge
problem: the guy doing the internet search is misspelling Scientology!
Scientologie?
That is the French spelling. Put it in Google and you'll get French
sites. I think the Italian version starts with C if I'm not mistaken.
21m32s: "Ron Hubbard vient de mourir dans un accident"
Err.. Hubbard didn't die in an accident.

Ray.
Although Morton went into that in his book, it was great seeing it re-
enacted and I think that would be an eye-opener for the American
public. Plus, having the ex-Scientologists there, along with
reporters, added a big dimension. Seeing these articulate ex-
Scientologists, who all came off as forthright and real, adding all
the behind-the-scenes detail, made the program.
In the U.S., statements by the exes are usually edited too much, like
they did to Skip. In this, the exes were allowed to contribute a lot.
Yes, the reenactment of the sacred reading of the OTIII materials,
while Bruce explains what it is about, was terrific.
The part comparing him to a Miscavige clone was relevant, and
important. Does he have a freakin' thought in his head that is his
own? Cruise should have just married Miscavige, no conversion would be
necessary, and they could do Scientology 24 hours a day.
Religion is a private thing, until a person starts shooting their
mouth off about it in public, over and over, and meeting with world
leaders to influence policy. Then, it should be made public. Not to
mention, that the religion a person is pushing is guilty of multiple
abuses and crimes, whose good works are a false front propaganda, the
field of wild flowers, planted for Cruise to romp through in his
fantasies.
Thanks for posting this. I jusrt watched th whole thing and , despite
it not yet being tranbslated for me to know all that was said, I can
see from it that this is a very damaging show for the cult and for Tom
Cruise's career. Kudos to all who participated, specially to Bruce
Hines & Karen (Schless) Pressley. Bruce for revealing so much more
about Scientology than you've ever publicly done so before while
respecting the privacy of Cruise and Kidman, who you provided
Scientology counseling to; and Karen for having the courage to speak
up again despite the oppression and persecution the church has levied
against you for speaking out and writing a book about what went on. I
hope to see it one day :)
Yes, and so were numerous French film critics and journalists to
excess. I suppose it's de rigeur and PC to let them all chime in and
try to psychoanalyze Tommy, but if the producers decide to do an
English language edit (which they profitably could), I think the show
would work better cut down to 60 minutes with lots of those
commentaries left out.
I suppose that may have been an ambition, but I don't think Tommy is
intelligent or poised enough to pull it off. One thing evident
throughout this show is his tendency to flash his toothy grin, giggle,
and then look down or bury his face in his hands. He does that
repeatedly, and comes across like a nervous pubescent girl every time
-- most notably during the scene taped at Le Train Bleu restaurant
where he announces his proposal to Katie Holmes atop the Eiffel Tower.
Awwwww......
I mean, at least Arnold Schwarzenegger has a modicum of poise, as did
Ronald Reagan.
Maybe he could have done some ambassadorial type thing, though, as
Angelina Jolie does with the UN.
Paris romantic?
They should do a movie!
Every actor on his 3rd wife, should have her cult-approved, and then
propose to her atop the Eiffel tower.
Katie is thinking: "The things I do for my career!"
They did. It was Billy Wilder's Irma La Douce with Shirley
Maclaine. ;-)
Or was that "etait mort d'un accident"? (The built-in speakers on this
iMac mini are lousy; I need to get better ones.)

Yes, either way he didn't unless we want to assume Dr. Denk made a
mistake by shooting his ass full of Vistaril.
Your error radar is working at 100 percent efficiency, Ray. Maybe
Roger or another Frenchie will wish to correct this on the France 2
website.

Just finished watching the whole thing. This is one excellent
documentary. I learned a few things in there. I didn't know Mimi Rodgers
was pushed aside by the Miscavige regime. I also didn't know Tommy Davis
was in there when Tom Cruise visited Nicolas Sarkozy. Lots of
interesting insights, stitched together in a chronology of Tom Cruise's
involvement with Scientology. The whole thing allows to understand
better each little bit of Tom Cruise's life, and clearly Scientology is
completely driving his life. Nicole Kidman was found to be the
suppressive person in his vicinity, and he went along with that, and
virtually divorced her on the spot. Just goes to sow how sick and
perverse is that doctrine.
I like the documentary's choices of words. When Scarlett Johansson
understood what was going on, "elle a pris les jambes son cou", :D On
the other end, Katie Holmes took the bait.. So Tom Cruise would have
"fallen deeply in love" with whomever Scientology management had
successfully screened.
Janet Charlton outed Tom Cruise as a scientologist in July 90 (or is it
91), I wish I could find a copy of this article, it sure is of
historical interest, especially that the mag underwent Scientology
harassment when the article was published (as reported in "To Catch a
Rising Star", http://www.rickross.com/reference/scientology/Scien12.html#)
Bruce Hines is studying physics! Goes to show how different can be the
path of those leaving Scientology.
I don't know why they interviewed Shira Lazar in English, she speaks
French too (native of Montreal.)

Ray.
This is where the project excels. They stuck all the facts into a
timeframe, did a huge amount of research, interviewed a whole bunch of
people, and put together an historical account that will probably give
T.C. some insights into hisi own life if he's ever allowed to watch
it.

I know why. The native French can't stand the Montreal accent. I
talked to this Quebecois guy several years ago, and he said he got
along far better in Paris speaking English than his hillbilly French.
www.amazon.com/Sixty-Million-Frenchmen-Cant-Wrong/dp/1402200455/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1247678485&sr=1-1

"The native French can't stand the Montreal accent." Sounds like an
absurd generalization, are you sure it is what he said? "Hillbilly
French"? Frankly, I never heard of such a statement before (the need to
speak English in France), sounds quite silly to me. Reading materials on
his website, I don't get this vibe:
"Even the French look to Quebec for ideas on how to keep French
vocabulary contemporary without systematically resorting to English. The
Quebec bank of terminology, which contains references to one million
terms in French, gets 50 million hits per year, mostly from Europe, a
striking success when you compare that with the two million that the
French Academy receives."

Of course, if a Quebecker speaks French-canadian slang in France, surely
nobody will understand. But then, I can't make sense of French slang
either (well, just a tiny bit, from watching French movies.) Maybe it's
what he meant: English better understood than French-canadian slang, the
same way I am more likely to make sense of English than French slang. In
any case, it can be learn, always very funny to hear a native French
resorting to French-canadian slangs :)

Ray.
Yup, that is precisely what he said. It wasn't about the vocabulary,
but the twangy Montreal accent and certain word choices. But of
course, I should have stipulated that he referred to French ~Parisian~
intellectual and literary society. They also turn up their noses at
various native French provincial accents.
If you want a minor example of culture shock, people from France and
Quebec will both say "Bonjour" when they enter a store, or encounter
and greet the clerk at the supermarche. When they leave, the native
French will say "Au revoir." But the Quebecois will say "Bonjour"
again when they exit, which really freaks out native French people.
However, people from Quebec City have more acceptable accents than
those from Montreal.
Yes he did... He accidentally believed his bullshit and exteriorized
from his body... :-)
Ironically, it appears that Tom Cruise and Scientology were Nicole's
SP's - her career took off after the divorce, whearas, Tom's nose
dived.
