No, I wouldn't say I've turned into some big "Jesus Freak", but today
I was with one, and I realized a few things.
First off, I was raised a Catholic, and as much as I didn't like a bunch of
the "high and mighty" Catholic stuff, I did learn some good things. Then I
left it, after realizing I'd probably go to Hell anyways, Plus I was sure
all of *my* friends would be in Hell anyways, and that was the beginning of
"Party On!" I later joined the cult of Scientology..and that 30 years later,
escaped out. Phew.
Today at work I happened to swear in front of someone who claims to be a
"Christian". Since I've left the cult, I've still seen many Christians to be
quite similar to Scientology...in the many negative ways, although I wasn't
sure why. Once I swore, this girl freaked out..ran off.telling me, "There is
NO need for that!" I said, "I'm sorry", but no, she refused to forgive me.
I thought about it all the way home. Suddenly it hit me! It was people just
like her....claiming to be "Christians" that totally turned me off to any
relationship with Christians. ((And I do understand there are truly loving,
nice Christians, but this isn't about them...))
Ok, so I looked at it, and here's what I came up with:
Cults
Jesus/Higher Powers
Conditional Love Unconditional
Love
Super Judgmental Non-Judgmental
Unforgiving Forgiving
Exclusive Inclusive
$$$ Motivated Purpose Driven
Takers Givers
There are many similar traits, but isn't that interesting??
It may mean nothing to many, but it was a true "ahhhhh haaaaa" Moment, for
me.
So really, once can look at any group and with those traits and see which
side they are ~truly~ on.
Be well J

Cults on one side (left)

On the right side is "Jesus/Higher Powers"

Yes indeedie... that is a useful distinction...and not open to
much argument either..how a decent religion or philosphy can
be turned into nasty fake situation ,,
Very interesting and it explains to me why Ive had a severe
aversion to some of these types... these are not being decent
at all or even abiding by their own glorious precepts..but are
using their beliefs as a way to condemn and exclude.

Very interesting parallels, Tory. Since Christianity is infiltrated by
Scientology, this is not surprising to me.

wake up and smell the coffee - she was not talking about hell being a
party she was talking about her life after leaving the church . Can you
not read or are you so wrapped up in your warped tunnel vision that any
mention of hell turns your brain off??

One of the big problems we have in trying to convince people that the CoS
is a Bad Thing is that they have been taught that religions and cults are
totally different animals, separated by a wide gulf. Cults cannot possibly
have anything good in them and nothing could ever go wrong in a religion
since everyone in it is nice.
The reality? We are all individuals, and joining a religion, a cult, a
political party, a bowling club doesn't make us automatically good or evil.
We can only do that for ourselves.

Thank you for providing more documentation for my research.

Buyer-beware: The real CAN, a secular anticult organization, has been
taken over by a Scientologist, and must be considered under the
influence of the Church of Scientology [Documentation]. While claiming
to promote tolerance, the new CAN has shown itself to be a hate group.
It is now operated by the Foundation for Religious Freedom (FRF), a
California corporation doing business as Cult Awareness. The agreement
between the Church of Scientology and the IRS, reveals that FRF is a
"Scientology-related" entity (VIII 4c).
Billing itself as an interfaith organization, FRF is headed by Dr.
George Robertson, who also founded "Friends of Freedom," an
organization funded by the Church of Scientology [Documentation]
Robertson is a baptist minister. He is vice president and chairman of
Maryland Bible College & Seminary, which is operated by Greater Grace
World Outreach, a church that has been in the news in the past for
unethical practices. Another person associated with GGWO, Louis DeMeo,
is a vocal opponent of France's anticult- and countercult movements.
Scientology minister Nancy O'Meara, administrator for FRF, bills
herself as a CAN-volunteer.
Whereas the real CAN was an organization that warned people about
dangerous cults, the Scientology-backed CAN relies primarily on
information provided by cult apologists. It's use of the name "Cult
Awareness Network" is, therefore, seen as a farce.
Incidentally, the term "interfaith" strictly speaking stands for
"involving person of different religious faith." The idea is that while
these people may differ in their theological convictions, they
nevertheless tolerate and respect each other. Currently, though, some
(including many cult apologists) are trying to redefine the term to
mean that one must accept religious pluralism - the theory that there
are more than one or more than two kinds of ultimate reality and/or
truth - and that therefore more than one religion can be said to have
the truth (way to God, salvation, etcetera). In this view, questioning
or critiquing the beliefs and/or practices of a religious movement is
considered akin to "intolerance," "persecution," and "hatred." For
obvious reasons, this appears to be the approach favored by the new
CAN.

I'm not telling...yet.
You are new to ARS and are misevalating some world class
people just because they are not of your same exact religious
ethic.
its taking a broad spread of people of all persuasions to take
the criminal cult of scientology down.
One the issue of scn being in bed with the religious
right..its extensive and fully documented. Sorry I dont log
the posts but all that is searchable on google.
NOW just because I say that...does not mean that I am against
this or that...dont draw that conclusion...here on ARS we
state facts as best we can and let the cards fall where they
may.
We are not fighting about how all the First Babtists will go
to hell if they dont convert to whatever brand of christianity
the other side is carrying on about.
We are observers......and imperfect ones at that. We are
adverse to dogma of ANY sort even if it happens to fit our own
goals and predilections..we stay away from that here...we
stick to the whats insane about the cult and cult
characteristics in general....... imperfectly.
thus it will alway be so.
imperfect.
Dissention on the imperfections has been found not viable in
this fight.. ..so those of us who wish to see the cult of
scientology clean up or rot of its own corruption do not get
into these countless other issues.
ymmv of course
