  Who can doubt that our efforts to educate the world about Austria have been a rousing success? In a similar spirit, I humbly suggest that, in a spirit of tolerance, we all should forswear use of the phrase "North American" and energetically correct anyone who continues to use such derogatory language. Pest Toast III 
  I made a post in sci.physics yesterday and it still hasn't shown up so I had to repost it, and a post in rec.arts.sf.written today and same same. Dang, this is becoming something of a bother. Like I donut have enough crap to deal with. I have two grandkids for the summer, I may have to drop the gas tank on the (slightly dead) Jeep to get the gas out of it, and my wife wants me to build a fire because she's cold.... more »

Esther Williams or Ethel Merman? 
  Since hearing that the Death Ray managed to find Esther Williams after 12 years of searching, I've been haunted by a weird memory of confusing her with Ethel Merman--which shouldn't be at all weird for someone who famously had Shelley Duvall and Shelley Long confused for years, except that it was a vague memory of having a real reason to confuse them.... more »
