So my grandfather sent me some flong (see
http://groups.google.com/groups?selm=lnlp3.287%24VPg.176065024%40news.fr
ii.net for definition), as he does from time to time.

In this particular case the flong is in the form of an inspirational
story. It goes more or less like this:

A rabbi visits a woman on her deathbed to discuss her final wishes.
After going over the standard stuff she asks him to make sure that she
is buried with a fork in her right hand.

The rabbi asks her why and she says that over the years when she was at
dinners and the main dish was being cleared away the host would say,
"Hold on to your forks!" and this always meant that the best part
(DESSERT!) was yet to come. So, SYMBOLICALLY, the fork symbolized that
the best part of existence, A NONDEMONATIONAL HEAVEN, was yet to come
for her. The hope was that people would see the FORK in her HAND and
ask, "What the heck is the fork for?" and the rabbi would then respond,
"Keep the fork, the best is yet to come," and at those words they would
be ENLIGHTENED.

So the rabbi's really moved and the plan is put into place and
everything works out basically as the woman described. The flong ends
with an exortation to "keep your fork" and forward the message to
EVERYONE YOU CARE ABOUT, even (or ESPECIALLY) if they've already sent it
to you. Whee!

Since I am a jerk, I pictured someone at the funeral saying to the
rabbi: "Stick a fork in 'er, she's done!"

From this we deduce that there are intangeable rewards for being a jerk.

That is all.

My painter friend Donald says that sometimes.
