Does anyone remember this stuff, and if so, what it was?
Nowadays you can get spill kits for specific bodily fluids, but by
today's standards this was pretty low tech.
My Proustian olfactory memories of grammar school are of this sawdust
stuff, crayons, and the piss biscuits in the urinals.

It was PEOPLE! Soylent Sawdust is PEOPLE!!

Captain Infinity
The world's running out of sawdust made form trees, so we've had to
resort to people-dust.
Don't know, but this reminds me of that one Pepsi commercial where
this girl dressed as a bucket of puke is having a bad day on a street
corner, because everyone is staring at her and shouting "EWWWW!" But
then, she sees a cute boy dressed as a bucket of sawdust! And the
commercial ends with an announcer saying "Sawdust loves puke. Puke
loves sawdust."
Worst Pepsi commercial ever. Didn't sell a single can.

Grrrrrrr!!! You beat me to it!!!!
mr dude
But a steaming bucked of phukk makes a crowd?

You don't need a commercial to forge a link in people's minds between
Pepsi and puke.

"Sawdust and Puke."
Much better than "Diamonds and Rust" by Joan Baez.
That's probably the stuff. I forgot the stuff had sand in it too.
TY.

Sawdust be the nemesis of emesis.

Odd. I don't remember any puke on the floor during all my years in
school. Did the kids just manage to get to the bathroom on time?

I bet your brane, in an effort to save you from yourself,
blocked the traumatic memory from recall.

It didn't matter in mine because the halls ALWAYS smelled that way. I'm
amazed Nicko's memory doesn't also include the regular butyrated floor-
stripper solution. I had to wonder why they ever bothered cleaning up
the puke if they were just going to make the whole hallway smell like
synthetic puke afterward.

Then why do I remember the used tampon by the girl's locker room?

Your school had a heating system? IIRC, my high school's heating
system was based on luck.
Obviously it's a red herring(*) left in your memory to distract you from
the missing pile of puke it was in.

Dear. God. It's bad on *two* levels. That's a masterful bit of
eupheming, sir.

Up North, heat is not taken for granted.

In the toilets no less.

And let me guess, the drinking fountains took their water from the
output of the toilets? <-- deliberate ploy to squick out Lots42.

There was an element of JuicyFruit in the high notes of that puke-
fairydust stuff. I remember that combined with the scent of that
crustulent white paste and pencil shavings.
And MIMEOGRAPH FUMES. A kind of purple I could look forward to!
< And MIMEOGRAPH FUMES. A kind of purple I could look forward to!
How could I forget the mimeograph fumes?
What...?
--oTTo--
When did they stop using mimeographs? I remember getting those
purpley "handouts" as late as 6th grade, and as I recall, making the
copies was a fairly big deal. There were always exactly enough and no
more, because the MIMEOGRAPH MACHINE was some kind of hassle to
operate or something.
Blurry purple print that got on your hands. State of the art.
