2000 Dom Perignon. Until I saw the price tag.
I guess I'll just have to select something from my liquor cabinet instead.
Maybe a 142 proof bourbon or a nice Irish. Or I could crack open that
bottle of cognac I've stashed away.
Although toast and ice water sounds good too (Paula, we miss you!).

I donut know if fireworks went off early, late, or right on time, nor whether
any bullets fell nearby. I went to bed at around 9pm ... and managed to sleep
straight through to 3am. (These days, that's about two hours more than I can
usually manage at a time, so yay.) So when I woke up it was Teh Future. Again.
Now lemme just find my cane so I can whap those teenagers about the shins with
it...

It hasn't been in the bottle that long. Champagne can be aged in vats
(or soemthing) for some time. It needs to bottle-fermented, dégorgé,
and (de préférence) consumed within a short time after bottling.

Oh, I didn't know that. I don't like Champagne much better than
sparkling grape juice, so I only have some if I'm offered it on New
Year's eve, and not if there's something better around.
OTOH, if you bought a bottle of 2000 Champagne in 2002 and it's still
sitting in your cellar, drink it quick (but it might be too late).
(I'm not really a wine connoisseur. I just remember a lot of trivia
and went on a tour of a champagnerie about 5 or 10 years ago.)

I think a lot depends on the quality of the champagne. I recall being
delighted with 1966 Florens Louis when it was 20 years old. So was the
owner of my favorite French restaurant when I gave him a bottle of it as
a gift.

all, they want you to buy more on the way out.
