For New Year's this year, please leave in my stocking an ARK with the
crossposts-from-idiots carefully followuped OUT of ARK until they are all
(all!) gone away again. I am Allowed to think that having trails of shit
smeared all over the gentle humor I am trying to read is not what I was
subscirbed for, am I not?

We probably can't get rid of the x-private.org idiot, he knows where we live
and that type doesn't stop until they get bored or until their Mom finds out
what they've been doing, but we can certainly take pains to not keep the
UnFunni MustUseSwearwordsAndInsultEveryoneElse crowd (I'd call them alt.flame
people but even a.f did this better than them) glued to this group, right?

Certainly you are. In fax, I heartily (lungily etc.) agree.

You can plonk anything xposted to more than X number of groups, which
might be helpful.

Interesting! I haven't used Agent in years, so it was a much older
version, but I'm pretty sure I could plonk anything xposted to more than
3 groups (my personal threshhold for asshattery). Mabye I'm smoking
crack and totally misremembering?

Xnews has the capability, for sure. Not saying you should change
readers, but Xnews has overall *much* more flexible and useful scoring
and plonking cababilities than Agent. And it's free as in beer.

I has an scorefile. I generally don't use it here, and have it set up for
r.a.sf.w only because of certain REALLY annoying incidents and/or persons
(well, they're able to post, that makes them legally persons, right?) that
inhabit or have inhabited it. My annoyance at those mentioned above is large,
but not yet large enough to force me to figuring out what to add to the
-9999 entries for here.

For some values of obvious, possibly. Will Agent 3 filter on the
Newsgroups: header? (Agent 1 won't, and I haven't kept up.) If
it will, you just have to count commas, like so:

settings in Googlegropes. Do you/does anybody know of a hack/Firefox

I don't normally use negative scoring here, but I might have to
start. (I also don't go for the =-9999 thing; I'm satisfied with
"marked as read".)

Not that I can find. From some info. I found on teh Web, it seems
that Agent 4 might allow filtering crossposted, but I'm not sure it's
worth paying for the upgrade.

Yep. And it is NOT a NEWSREADER. It is set up, essentially, as a web forum that
happens to only have news articles as entries. This is a fairly bad UI, which
has been commented on previously. It also doesn't have several other functions
that many newsreaders have (see: KILLFILES, for example); it's got much of the
basics but not all.

It's not as bad as AOL was. But lordy, it ain't good.

What is this "paying" of which you speak?

(OK, MT-NewsWatcher's UI sucks dead camels, but it will score on
Newsgroups headers matching a RE, and it's free. For Macs, of course.)

These days, I read ARK and two other newsgroups, and the current
