I stumbled on a small moonstone cabuchon with a painting on it. I was told
it had to do with either Sufi or Sefi. Is there anywhere that I can see some
artwork dealing with your religion for comparison?
The man who told me what little I know about it said that the prophets paint
these after having a vision.
There are two groups of letters at the bottom, one non-western characters
and the other is "MUMI" or "PMUMI".
Whatever this is, it is a beautiful and tiny piece of work. I am just
uncomfortable possessing a religious icon without some idea of what it
means. Any help would be appreciated.

I enjoy blending Islamic Calligraphy with modern
graphics. Patterns and tiles were also attractive to
Muslims. I have some artwork on http://www.clgraph.com/
the site however is still underconstruction. But, you can
enjoy four galleries. You will also need a high resolution
setting.

There are also many nice sites on the net with Islamic
art like http://www.islamicart.com/ .

I hope this was helpful.

Abdalla.

Just a thought.....might the insciption be 'RUMI"?

What you have may be a beautiful piece indeed.....but, I seriously doubt that it
would be considered to be a "religious icon" as defined among the Christian
sects.
