even though the Koran implies it is authoritative, many classical
Muslim scholars accepted its integrity, and this was only challenged
(no grounds given) as late as the 11th century CE. I pointed this out
in a posting to soc.religion.islam (The Corruption of the Bible) and
Zuiko Azumazi (Feb 16), in a characteristic diversionary reply (he met
none of my points) challenged me to show that there existed a "single
'canonical' Bible before the advent of Islam. I submitted the
following posting, expecting full well that it would be suppressed, as
indeed it was, no explanation given.
This illustrates the fact that on sri Muslims are permitted to attack
Christianity regardless of the 'relevance to Islam' rule, but
Christians are not permitted to answer the attack, being barred by the
relevancy rule. Muslims may even mount a challenge to Christians, who
are unable to reply and thus seem to be reduced to silence by the
challenge. This is an abuse of natural justice and normal decency, but
not untypical of Muslim polemical tactics.
Below is my rejected posting;
Your extensive blustering provided evidence of the partiality of the
moderators of sri: it is not relevant to Islam. Any reply of mine to
your misconceptions is likely to be blocked by the moderators, who
suppress patently relevant contributions of mine on the grounds of
'irrelevance'. You will find them on alt.religion.islam.
I am not inclined to address your mistakes at length since such a
reply would be suppressed. I will, however, say that you have not read
my original posting seriously: I am explicit about the fact that
Muslim charges of corruption of the Bible only began in 1064, and
consequently your demand for a canonical Bible "at the advent of
Islam" is beside the point.
Your consulting of the wikipedia concerning the canon and text of the
Bible is not a sufficient basis for understanding the issues. The
fundamental Judeo-Christian Scriptures have never been in doubt,
despite what Muslim propagandists assert. The Revised Standard Version
is not a version of the Bible; the "version" in question is a
TRANSLATION of an edition of the Greek text. The Greek text has been
established by the most meticulous examination of the early
manuscripts in order to ascertain the reading of the original; this
has been possible with a very high degree of accuracy and the points
of uncertainty have no bearing on Christian teaching. It has to be
said that this critical procedure has NEVER been carried out with
regard to the Koran: the religious authorities will not permit it,
since they know it will destroy the Muslim myth of the perfect
miraculous transmission of the Koran.
You suffer from the common, but extraordinary, Muslim confusion in
repeating the canard that different translations of the Bible imply
different Bibles. There are different translations of the Koran, but
that doesn't mean there are different Korans.
The issue of the Apocrypha is of no importance. Until the Reformation
Christians accepted a number of works included in the Greek (Jewish)
Septuagint; the Jews did not accept these as canonical somewhere near
the end of the first century CE. At the Reformation the Protestants
followed the Jews. Nothing of religious importance depends upon this
issue.
Your wikipedia extract on the New Testament canon is far from
authoritative, indeed it is absurd in places: the Thirty Nine Articles
say NOTHING about the canon of the Bible, and I am sure that the
Calvinist Confession of Faith says nothing either.
Contrary to what you say the canon of the Bible was fixed centuries
before the Koran appeared.
I do not need to be a historian in order to give an opinion on
historical method, which is a philosophical issue. You merely abuse me
(in your ignorance) in saying I have read nothing of the literature on
the subject, and say nothing to persuade anyone that I am wrong.

I was talking about Jesus and I admitted that the old testament was
partly violent but more violent then the Koran? More discriminating
