Sensible.

People who know that free memory is not as important as a good editor and even if it was, there's always swap :)

Is it possible that even the stupidest vi user possibly consider emacs users as being behind? Try again. Have you had both halves of your cerebrum removed? vi users are the ones so behind the times they won't even consider that maybe there is a better, more fun, more productive way.

How about people_willing_to_learn_something_new_when_the_benefits_are_so_clear_and_ob vious,_that_only_an_utter_fool_could_fail_to_see?
>or maybe..."People who dont have anything better to do that wait for the >editor to load"!
I suppose you don't want to wait for x windows to load either, so you just use the console screen? Or maybe a vt-52? You only load emacs once, each time you log in. It's easy to edit multiple files, (even at the same time. Oh my gosh! How can you keep from getting mixed up?). You don't start and stop it each time you want to process a different file.
jrh0017> "People who have at least 25 fingers" jrh0017> "People who wish keyboards had pedals" jrh0017> "People who use their nose to push bucky keys"
People who learn to type.
jrh0017> "People who have access to a [1-9]0* MB swap file"
People with real computers, with enough memory for real work.
jrh0017> "People who have nothing better to do with their editor than to jrh0017> solve Towers of Hanoi recursively"
These 2 morons obviously feel the need for some mutual support. It's sort of like skin heads getting together and egging each other on in their continued mixed up thinking.
Perhaps they should have the have their own news group? How about alt.religion.soon.to.be.brain.wiped?

Please don't condemn the sinners, the sins condemns themselves. Or translated: Don't flame the vi users, using vi is punishment enough.
Erway> You only load emacs once, each time you log in.
Nah, you load emacs when it is upgraded, and use screen to detach and reattach from the terminal when you must log out. X11 users have bigger problems than starting emacs.

Well, actually I wish my keyboard had pedals.

I think we will soon have two new converts. It is clear from the mere fact that they post in this holy newsgroup that they are deeply shaken in their pagan belief. Most likely, they have watched how true believers use M-x compile to correct a bunch of errors, use GNUS to read news, or use ange-ftp to edit remote files. Soon they will start emacs ``but only to play getris''... And once they have seen the light, there is no way back to the darkness.

How true.

Indeed Per, I bow to your superior, peaceful response. I see that the way of non-violent demonstration of the truth will set people free.

If you're running a computer so slow that Emacs actually takes an appreciable time to load, then I do indeed feel for you. That goes beyond pathetic...

No. As Per has pointed out, using vi is its own punishment. After all, they will soon loose their jobs due to lack of productivity. Entire companies, whose programmers use vi, will fall to the competition. Of course, vi was attractive compared with punched cards and batch systems, or even teletypes and paper tape, but that is no longer the environment to compete with.
Forgive the vi users Richard, for they know not what they do.
