Isaac Bonewits Update and clarification.

Ok thanks to the ego fest going on here there have been some
interesting little misconceptions created about old Uncle Isaac.
(a) He was never (in his own words and I can provide this to those who
ask) a student of Searles’.
(b) Searles perhaps HAS been contributing to his medical bills.
However the ADF has organised a way to donate to that. Further the ADF
members, and Groves have been putting what they can into it. Thus
Searles needs to clear up what he means by his “I'm sending my spare
money to Isaac Bonewits nowadays as he needs it.
The hospitals are pumping him full of chemo to kill his cancers.
Hopefully they will succeed without exploding him or exploiting him
too much. I know that a little income would comfort his missus.”.
Again this implies a closer relationship than Isaac acknowledges.
Again I have proof of this. I will not post this here as it contains
sensitive information. But I can provide the evidence to trusted
people. Isaac says Searles is a casual acquaintance/friend.
(c) Isaac is improving. His tumors are shrinking. This can all be
found on his facebook fan page. It’s readily available information.
(d) His wife and he have asked that for Yule, people buy a copy of one
(or more) of their books and pass that on to someone who has never
read them. They are not begging cap in hand for funds. Rather they
will accept that which is given with gratitude.

of the ADF. I simply emailed him and asked questions. He replied.

Yeah I know the term ;) McGrath has a very dirty liver over the fact

Searles has put up about Isaacs illness, yet is weeks behind. Isaac
himself posts online about it (in the facebook link I priovided). QED
it is public domain. I am not seeking to take anything from Isaacs
issues. Rather I would rather Searles grew a set and lived by his
virtues, and not seem grander than he is.

does. Searles does publish in Henge Happenings and has the

My own advice to Isaac ( I suffer a debiliating though benign condtion

BTW I met the American Ambassador, to Ireland, Daniel M. Rooney , on
his official visit to Kilkenny City on Wednesday - His Excellency was
delighted to meet us all and proved surprisingly knowledgeable about

these days to plot President Obama's visit to Kilkenny and it looks
like we've pulled it off :-) )
The Ambassador's delighful wife Patricia is an Irish woman from County
Mayo. He told us that he was first in Kilkenny 35 years ago and loves
the city, is a follower of the All-Ireland Champions the Kilkenny
hurling team - he himself, for American sports fans, previously owned
the Pittsburgh Steelers . The Ambassador was a Co-Founder of The
Ireland Fund .
He then visited and was entertained in Kilkenny Castle ( long a venue
for events by our Druids ) . The visit of this remarkable man and his
Irish wife really brought home to me the actual physical
ties, outside of the social, cultural and spiritual ties. between
Ireland and America - and the Ambassador remarked to me in an Irish
accent :
" Arragh to be sure we're all the one !"
A real character !

Dan Rooney himself seems a rare type of U.S. Ambassador, they're
usually office-bound, remote from the people -- but Dan makes it his
business to be on hand everywhere to welcome fellow Americans to
Ireland , the Irish love his easygoing laidback intellectual style
too, only recently appointed by President Obama he's a hit in Ireland
already.
Imagine, to arrive in Ireland, head out on your sight-seeing tour of a
local Irish city, and have the U.S. Ambassador be there to welcome you
on that ancient site when you arrive,
Lori will talk about this surprise moment in her early life
forever !!!
Or imagine being the two Yanks who wandered iinto a Kilkenny City -
centre pub last Wednesday lunchtime, and a guy sitting on a barstool
at the counter quaffing a Pint of Guinness asks you what you're having
- and the guy turns out to be the U.S. Ambassador !
It could only happen in Ireland !!!!!

Of course he's an appointee.... Ambassadorships are the plums a new
president gives well-heeled contributors and political party mover/shakers.
In Mr. Rooney's case, the life-long Republican and owner of the Pittsburgh
Steelers crossed party lines to give his support to Obama during the
primaries and helped him win the critical Pennsylvania vote in the election.
There's also a lot more Fishhead could have said about Mr. Rooney if he
really did know something about the man. But he doesn't and he didn't. NOW
of course he's going to be Googling like mad and spewing information, but
it's too late.

Ambassador Rooney has already been described by the Irish media as an
INSPIRING choice by President Obama, he is well-received and well--
loved by the Irish People already, and that is a great feat to achieve
by any American Ambassador here, considering the widespread opposition
to both the Iraq and Afghanistan wars in Ireland !
Of course, Dan Rooney has been coming to Ireland all his life, for
over 35 years and as James explains, is now virtually part of the
Irish culture himself, both from his accumulated time he
spent in Ireland on the Land and amongst the people - and also his
massive lifelong immersion in all Irish-American affairs at home in
Pittsburgh. He is a fabulous choice, there could not be a better
choice ubless you appointed Bill or Hillary Clinton, or one of the
remaining Kennedys ( if any ! )
He is also, importantly to the Irish, a Co-Founder of the Ireland Fund
which did so much , especially by placing American Big Business behind
the acchhievement of the Northern Ireland Peace Accord, Dan Rooney
knows the Ireland and the People whom he deals withh daily in his new
job well . And he has, as I described, thrown himself , Mind, Body and
Soul, into his job. He is really alert for his age ( around my age,
I'd guess ) , shows a surprising agility and alertness, not unusual in
men of our achievment !!!
( If he were to make a decision that could, say, favour Ireland or the
USA, I believe he would decide in favour of Ireland :-)
Hope his boss the President doesn't read that !!! ) .
We are all therefore delighted with Dan Rooney , who is now becoming
more popular than our own leaders - The Mayor remarked this to him,
publicly at Kilkenny Castle, and he replied :
" Yes, I know, I'm working towards the Top Job here in Ireland, but
don't let your Taoiseach know, or I'll get an immediate recall :-) "

Although Malcolm has a car himself ( for family trips only) , he uses
his bicycle in all weathers to get about the city, even on Officiall
Occasions ( the only time he wears a suit -- Conservative opponents
denounce him as a ' Hippy' - he seldom shaves ) opposes climate change
seriously, and joins in with Druids, pagans, new agers whatnot, though
he is of no declared religion himself .
Even if you oppose Malcolm, he bears you no grudge in the world , so
it's useless opposing him - and he is now officially unemployed
himself though he did work in his father's landscaping business in a
small way, but it's great for Kilkenny that he is full time available
as mayor - he and Dan the Ambassador got on together like old friends
on Wednesday, that's the effect that both Malcolm and Dan have on
people and on one another .
I worried ( aside) to Malcolm that maybe our film, " Obama's Irish
Roots" wasn't yet edited quite up-to-scratch, as he presented a DVD of
it to the Ambassador . He Laughed :
" Michael , I don't care if that film is the most boring, dull,
conservative film in the world - so long as it does its job and gets

These things are true:
I consider Isaac Bonewits a friend and he also considers me to be a
friend. Are we bossom buddies and life long soul mates? NO. We are
friends who admire and respect one another (though neither of us is
perfect). We have corresponded via email on occassion and have
exchanged posting as recently as the [ast two weeks.
Isaac took an Ogham Divination course from me in the Summerlands where
he was and is a member. That is what Imeant when I said that he's been
a student of mine. I've also studied his writings and books, so I
cansay that I'm a student of his.
He also invited me to teach on Ogham Divination at Wellspring 1996
(which I did). That's where Deborah and I met him in person, shared
coffee and riitual with him, as well as others.
Isaac has had me preread some of his books and has also included some
things I've said in his books (such as _The Pagan Man_).
I'm included on his friends page at Facebook, on his blog (as the

title than it actually has. Most companies and organizations equate

Without wishing to take away anything from the validity of your
observations, I still find it rather a pity that the term "Myrmidon" has
become so debased. The
historical Myrmidons were a Greek tribe with Ant as a totem (graphically
illustrating the point that in the ancient world, totems were not only
restricted to what we moderns consider "cool" animals such as Bear, Eagle,
etc. but could also be insects, amphibians, reptiles). The lore indicates
that they were not only extremely numerous, but known for their dedication
and teamwork, as well as being considered the fiercest warriors in Greece,
all of which is honorable and laudatory.

He was a complex and baffling man. I'm favorably impressed with his son

Field and Stream did a story on it even.
Left my Aunt with 6 Kids, including Twins under 1 and an older sibling
just about 9 Months Older.
As a result, She can make Ethyl Mermen seem mute.

days. I am more likely to discourage others from attacking.
My grandfather always told me that there is no point going looking for
trouble or to pick a fight, as sooner or later it will find it's way
to you anyway, and it's always unecessary hassle.
I do believe I am turning into some sort of hippy, though I do have a
job, very short hair and I don't wear sandals ;)
Perhaps I am becoming a neo-hippy, or a techno-hippy, either way I am
still a geek, and the geek shall inherit the earth ;)
