Catholics are commanded to believe in the Pope for a few reasons :
1. Canon Law...the highest of RCC law....demands that all Catholics
'submit their total will and intellect to the teaching Majesteriom of
the church ' . In other words, you are never to question what you
hear . But the Bible in Acts 17:11 commends people for checking out
whatever they are taught by seeing what the Bible has to say about an
issue.
2. The long line of Papal Succession . This unbroken line is somehow
supposed to gaurantee that the teachings we hear from a current Pope
is therefore true and doesnt disagree with the Bible. Yet on 33
major doctrines of the RCC, the Bible differs drastically. See the
online book called 'Understanding Roman Catholicism' by Rick James, a
former staunch Catholic.
3. The Pope has been raised to the level of 'Christ on Earth' ,
supposedly along with having complete leadership authority. Only the
Bible says that Christ IS STILL the Head of the Church from Heaven and
that he was the LAST Priest (Book of Hebrews) .
4. The outward appearance of the Pope with the finest of silk garb ,
expensively fabricated Hats , opulence galore, and so many Followers
dieing to bow before him and kiss his gigantic ring as he holds out
his outstreached arm .... sets the stage for idolizing this mere Man
who is a sinner the same as you and I are.
5. The hoopla of tradition which comes whenever a residing Pope
dies .
These are but a few of the reasons why so many are willing to
automatically , without reservation, foolishly trust whatever a Pope
says as the ultimate truth . Between the expectations and the pomp
and Canon Law....Roman Catholics simply forfiet their option of
properly checking out a Popes teachings . Afterall, a Popes teachings
has superceded even that of Gods inspired Word to all of mankind
thruout every century. Alas, the power and control over the Roman
Catholic masses . Not so for Protestants however, and other Bible
Followers who refuse to be titillated and influenced by external means.
