McClatchy Newspapers is reporting that Obama will announce on Dec. 1st
that he's sending an additional 34,000 troops to Afghanistan. This is
near the high end of the options presented to him.

This will deplete most of the deployable reserves, and cost billions
of dollars more, with no end in sight.

I've seen this movie before: LBJ and Vietnam.

That's it. I'm finished with Obama.

Colin Powell's doctrine was that either you do it right or not at all.
Notice all the legwork with the Afghans saying they will take over
soon. McCrystal had asked for 40-80k. 34k sounds a bit contrived,
unless it reflects availability. The other thing is the Pakis are
doing a lot better than under Musaraf.

As to Singh, I suspect China proved a grand disappointment.

This is not really a conflict that we can end this way - even if we
had a military twice the size.
All this can do is buy us time and keep (most of) the overt action
going on off our soil.

He finished with you the day after the election. :) Don't be mad,
all politicians do that.
