I wonder which parishes will elect not to join OCA ( as it seems is
OCL's objective ) ?
Nomatter what happens , GOA will be smaller but better , and more
committed when these OCL-types are gone .
No doubt the division of properties will reach the US Supreme Court and
following the precedent in the 1970's of the OCA vs MP case could have
important repercussions for the Roman Catholic Church in case some
members in that Church decide to form an "American " Catholic Church
with " American Values " .
The quicker this partition of GOA ( and the simultaneous explusion..or
better still excommunication of all OCL members ) happens , the sooner
loyalists can practice Greek Orthodoxy in America and the rogues can
practice American Orthodoxy in the OCA .
Amen !

*Really* useful for us American converts to the GOA, who
don't read Greek. :-\
Well, if it says anything I need to know, no doubt someone
will explain it to me ...

I don't belong to an organized religion.
I'm Eastern Orthodox.
Really ? I suppose I should consider you a Russian agent ? :)
That's your logic .
We are open to *all* races , cultures , languages , sexes etc.
We are however, a conservative Church .
Dana ,
Sorry for my oversight . It was not intentional . I will
translate the whole article ( minus the satirical jokes ; as this is a
Greek-American website and puts a satirical political spin on things ) .

Thanks. :-)
Before approaching a parish, in the summer of 2000, I
checked with an OCA contact and a GOA contact about the
parishes in my area. (There are no Antiochian parishes in
my area.)
The feedback I got was that the local OCA parish is ... not
healthy. It has some *serious* "ethnic-only" issues; in
response, later-generation members are peeling off to join
other parishes, including my GOA parish. The OCA parish has
no permanent priest; it is supplied by "priests of the
deanery", or some such phrase.
Meanwhile, the priest at my GOA parish is tradition-minded,
and is trying his best to help everyone -- Greeks and non-
Greeks -- to live as good Orthodox Christians. And there
are people in the parish who are responding to him.
So I went there. I got a warm welcome immediately, and have
continued to be welcomed warmly since. I have been welcomed
in the choir (one of the long-time Greek choir ladies
touched my shoulder as she left after the Liturgy, and
said, "You have a beautiful voice"), and I am learning
Byzantine chant from some remarkably generous and warm-
hearted psaltes.
Bottom line: Second-class, second-schmlass. My "class" as a
citizen doesn't matter. I'm just glad they let me in.

How do you know for sure that it wasn't a "typewriter" font on a
computer? There are fonts that perfectly emulate the output of old
typewriters -- what better way to make the document seem properly
"ecclesiastic"?
Nope .... it is toooo inconsistent and typewritery and the photographic
image gives it away ... besides those fonts don't exist for POLYTONIC Greek.
The choice is limited, but it is there ... no, that old typewriter is of
grave concern!

Didn't you know that to be an Orthodox Christian you must be Greek?!? ;-)

BTW: I am in the GOA, in good standing, and I love my Church. I
disapprove of the liberalizers, but phyletism must also be condemned.
I translated the whole article into english for non-Greek speakers .
See the post below .
In fact the OCA has "metohion" parishes in Russia granted to it by the
Moscow Patriarchate.. I argue that Greek ghetto parishes (eg
Arsedooria) should be "metohion" to the Church of Greece..
I don't know about this but I'm inclined to guess the difference
between "metohion" and so-called "phyletism" is the approval of the
"jurisdicting" (?!) church..
