Now about Epsa that reminds me of a joke in Greek
Now Epsa is produced in Volos and Larissa and there are lots of joke in
Greece about the Larisaian accent which tends to shorten vowels and make
words appear differently from what they are -- but I'm afraid the punch
line of this joke only works in Greek. So this is for the Greek speakers:
The guy who owns the EPSA coke company was getting worried because nobody
had heard of it. He decided to go to the USA to get some marketing ideas.
While he was there he went to a basketball game (Greece's favourite sport)
and he saw Mike Jordan come out before the crowd and shout "Pepsi" and the
crowd shouted back "COLA" . So he thought "That is a great idea! I'll do
that when I go back to Greece" So at the next big match in Larissa he
explains to Fasoulas (a Greek basketball star) what he has to do. So,
Fasoulas goes out in front of the Larissean crowd before the match and
shouts "EPSA"
"OU XTYPSES" they replied!!
Translation: The Larisseans (supposely) say "epsa" for "epesa" = "I fell" so
they replied (again in regional accent)
"Did you knock yourself?/Get hurt?)

Unfortunately, it's not very common... some supermarkets do have it,
though. Don't ask me which ones, i don't remember.
Sleezboogah, Choke, no Repsi!??!!!
I'm told the Chicago Greek diner owner, that John Belushi
modelled that SNL script after, declared a curse on Chicago athletic
teams. But we got the last laugh, as the attorney that now licenses
old SNL shows (as well as Flintstones &al) is (was?) George Elias
Stephanopoulos (first cousin of the famous synonym).

[DQ2K: Make the Murky Clown Frown!]
That Chicago Greek Diner owner (Sianis) put a curse on the Chicago Cubs who
refused to allow his billy goat into Wrigley Field during the last World Series
they were in (some 50 years ago). He in turn put a curse on the Cubbies. The
Cubs since that time have never appeared in a World Series.
In 1969 when the New York Mets came from behind and took the pennant from the
Chicago Cubs (wear a Mets cap to Wrigley Field only if you look like that
wrestler Bill Goldberg, otherwise make sure your health insurance is paid up),
son Sam Sianis was blamed for his father's curse of the billy goat.
Years later, Sam Sianis, with the blessings of the Cubs brought a billy goat
(claiming it to be a great, great, great grandson of the original billy goat)
to Wrigley Field and "lifted" the curse. Could have fooled us! Perhaps
someone should have run some DNA testing on that goat to check its bloodline!
As a footnote to this legendary Chicago tale, the Sianis family lived across
the alley from . . . the Atsaves family when I was a kid. They had two
monster German Shepherd dogs roaming their fenced in backyard that would eat
anything that went over the fence into their yard. These dogs were not too
bright as they were always running headfirst into the fencing whenever anyone
walked by. We once tried to feed a couple of girl cousins to them, but the
girls screamed so loud that the dogs ran off.
At the famous Billy Goat Tavern, Sam Sianis was copied by the late John
Belushi, including the famous cheezeburger, cheezeburger, cheezeburger, Coke,
no Pepsi schtick, which Sam has been doing for 40 years now. Translated that
means three cheezeburgers were ordered with one coke.
The tourists love the place. Sam Sianis became a very wealthy man serving
greasy food in a run down tavern on Lower Wacker Drive (basement level street
with Upper Wacker Drive on top of it, where the sun doesn't shine.)
The other sport teams in Chicago are not affected by this curse although they
have their own demons to contend with. The Bulls for example suffer from the
Jerry Krause demon. The Blackhawks have the Wirtz demon. The White Sox have .
. . well no one can ever figure out what the White Sox have or are up to
anymore!

Uh oh. Maybe this is not so good. You see, I like Fresca. So -- maybe --
maybe
ROCA had the correct softdrink all along??? Does this make me a closet
ROCA-ite?
Disillusioned in Canada
The old calendar groups refuse to switch because that decision was never made
by all of the Orthodox Churches at a duly convened ecumenical council!

Now come on -- you don't know your theology very well do you? ;-)
The Roman Catholics went with RC! ROCA was very disappointed with the
modernist
recipe for the New Coke, and chose to break fellowship with those who drank it.
Another problem with New Coke was it's shipping date -- the company continually
ships
it to the stores prematurely -- 13 days prematurely to be exact. This
drastically
reduces the flavour of the normally pure and unadulterated fizz. No sireee,
for ROCA
it's Coke Classic all the way! :-) Thirty lashes with a wet noodle for
thinking
otherwise (consider it penance). ;-)

Ooops, Wayne... I am not sure really. gotta do some serious homework!
:-)
Actually, the P and the S are the only way to pronounce the Greek
letter Psi. So, in greek, there are only three letters in the brand
name. Could you give it another try and see what you come up with? that
should be interesting!
