In my opinion? At the ages you're talking about, it makes a vast
difference. If you're just talking about friendship it's a different
matter entirely, but age differences at this point in your life are
going to be very significant. The teenage years are a time of very
great and rapid changes. Personally, I just think that the difference
between 13 and 17 would place a great and possibly insurmountable
obstacle in the way of any romantic relationship. Sorry :(

AFAIK it's not that simple.

It depends on the state. I live in Arkansas, and apparently they changed
the laws back in 1997. Unless I interpreted them wrong, I couldn't get into
a statutory rape situation. (However, I could get in trouble for sexual
misconduct.. whatever that is.)

Of course it isn't your in Arkansas.

speaking from experience...
being 18 and dating even a 16 year old.
maturity is a big gap. of course it depends on each person
individually, but pray about it. pray hard. and if god gives the go ahead,
then ask both sets of parents, defintely.

I'd be cautious about it...when I was 18 I was dating a 23 year old...but
there's a big difference in maturity between 14 and 18...if my 13 year old
sis was going for a 17 year old I'd be pretty pissed...but that's my
personal emotional response...isn't to say it's absolutely right.

It depends on where you are. Here, in Canada, the age of consent is
14, so in June, he's safe; before that, it's considered statutory
rape. It's also only illegal if they sleep together, no less.

I had the hots for a guy 6 yrs older than me last year, and I was convinced
it would work out. Later on, we both realised it would be hard and decided
to wait until we were older. In the end, I fell hopelessly in love with my
current boyfriend and there is NO way I'll ever go out with the other guy, I
realised he's not my type.

Anyway, that's just my life. I think you should just be friends for now,
get to know each other. Go to a movie, enjoy yourselves, but I wouldn't
suggest a relationship before you really know each other. Good luck!

It'd be hard to really prosecute that, unless they have "corruption" well
defined.

Corruption should be defined by the common law of that state. Look it
up in past cases. A judge must follow the precedent set by previous
judges.

That is, of course, if the USA is like Canada and other British Common
Law countries.

A person is not considered an adult at 19, so it would not be illegal.
And where did he say he was having sex??? Anyway, even if they are, I
thought it would only be considered statutory rape IF one was older than
21.

Perhaps I confused you. It was a joke, You see some people have a
steorotypical belief that Arkansas, and the South in general, permits this
kind of behavior. Like 25 year olds marrying 14 year olds and that kind of
stuff.

Most states have ages of consent that are lower than 18. In a lot of
them I think it's 16. In one state I think it goes as low as 14.
Statutory rape laws tend to differ quite a bit between the states as
well. So it would all depend on where the poster is located.
