Hi - I wonder if any practitioners could help me. I have meditated
many times and I have read various books on exercises (antidotes to
certain mental afflictions etc) and understand them - but I am rather
confused as to how to practice each exercise in order or how to create
a sensible schedule.

Are there any prescribed programmes I can follow each week?

Thanks in advance.

i have trained in a few traditions, also been through some health
issues, and career
changes...fellow traveler, not selling anything, some advice for what
has worked for me,
no dogma.

First, to take care of yourself and others you will need to be able to
work. To be able to work you will need a basic level of health. That
means physical activity, what you eat, and your emotional state,
relaxation, sleep, etc.

Can you try getting out and walking for 45 minutes to an hour each
day? That will use up the stored energy in your muscles and help your
metabolism to utilize insulin. Basic health practice before any
meditation practice...Also if you try meditation and have no
livelihood
there will be endless worries coming up again and again. Buddhist
Monks, etc, have a livelihood,
they work with their communities, and their communities choose to
support them because of their work. Buddhist lay people work in nearly
every sort of job. i don't think i need to tell you that it feels good
to be able to take care of yourself and to help others. So first work
on your own health, so that you do that.

There might be obstacles to putting a plan of health and new life in
action, so you have to be ready to work with that as well you might
have some physical issues, emotional traumas, etc - big things to get
over, but not really such big things - people have been dealing with
that for ages and there's lots of helpful advice about that through
the ages from every tradition.

Find someone (s) to walk with if you can - get out there everyday for
45min - hr, if you cant find someone go it alone for now, eventually
you will meet people also trying to get fit, work,
turn their lives around, etc etc...be a friend to make a friend on
this path...

If this advice is off the mark just say so, and tell me what's
going on with you...if i can help i will.

I believe the best way to learn about meditation and practice is is by not
doing it on your own, look for a Buddhist meditation group or temple.
I practice zen meditation and want to visit every week a Buddhist temple or at
least once a month.
Is this possible for you?

Kind Regards,

Peter

I could not agree more. Really important, really simple - but so
helpful! Thank you, Norbu for reminding me that 'sitting' has to be
counterweighted with moving (consciously). Almost 1:1 ratio!
