Went to a GoodWill store, just to look around, and found a nice,
rosewood colored, wooden Butsudan & nearby, in a container, found the
Nichikan (SGI) Gohonzon, which I carefully put/hung up into the Butsudan
. . and bought. It's 25" tall & 17" wide! I wonder, when I'll find a
Nittatsu Gohonzon?

Judy, you need to turn other people's Gohonzon's IN! If you want
a Nichikan you can get one from the SGI. It's about the same
amount of money as NST, but if I remember you get a World
Tribune subscription and a leader. Chanting to anothers
Gohonzon is fine, if you know them, but keeping a Gohonzon
from a person you don't know, is slander, isn't it?
Better return it, if you don't want bad karma! I think the old
Gohonzon's are different, they are collectors items!
Does it say who it belonged to?? You might want to let
SGI know who's it was, if you know! Sometimes people
write their names on the Gohonzon envelope and the date!
At least the date might lend a clue. I would return it to the
SGI. That is what is customary!
Don't know who turned in this Nichikan (SGI) Gohonzon, as it was not in
an envelope, just the Gohonzon in a bin near the Butsudan, I happened to
look into and discovered it! What happens to it (Gohonzon) if I turn it
into the Friendship Center (Fairfax/Venice)? I like the Butsudan!
If a person discards their Butsudan & Gohonzon, I'd think that one who
gets it, would be doing a good thing (BTW, I'm NOT chanting to either
the Nichikan - SGI one nor the Nikken - NST one that were bought at
GoodWill store & a Yard Sale) . . . . . . I have my own NST Gohonzon &
a wooden Butsudan with a light & drawer that has folding doors, but is a
small one, I've had since July 1996! I'd like to sell the beginner's
18" tall, 10 3/4" wide & about 4" deep Butsudan (ones on ebay are $49.
to $69.) . . . maybe for $40.!

You should always return any Gohonzon that you find shopping, but
an antique Gohonzon can be sold, I believe at auction. However,
I would check with someone you trust.
1979 sounds right - for his death! I think, he was HP from 1962 - 1979,
but not sure, at the moment. Do you know when they were givng out
Gohonzons in a cardbord Butsudan? I turned one in, from a neighbor here,
that I knew - years ago - (now passed away) that she said her boyfriend
(at one time) helped her get, but since they ended up breaking up, she
discarded it, in her closet and never really chanted (I'm now wondering
IF it may have been a Nittasu Gohonson as I can't recall what it looked
like when she gave it to me to be turned in!
