when John the Baptist makes the public declaration he did by quoting Isaiah 40:3 to
" Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make His paths straight. " the word translated " Lord "
is Mk. 1:3 is from the Greek word " kurios. "
when we turn to Isa. 40:3 from which John the Baptist quotes we there find the word
" LORD " all in capital letter's. this let's us know that when the word rendered " LORD "
is found in the OT in all capital letter's it refer's to the Name which is above every
name, " YHWH. " and while this, His Name YHWH, has no vowels and it being unknown to us
exactly how to pronounce YHWH, with vowels we pronounce His Name YHWH as " Jehovah. "
God, speaking His truth for all of us to whom He's given an ear to hear, has recorded for
us in the plainest of terms that Jesus Christ is Jehovah of the Old Testament.
in the very first occurrence of His Name as YHWH... Jehovah, we find Jehovah, that is,
Jesus Christ, the Maker of heavens and earth...
" These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the
day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens... " ( Gen. 2:4 ) completely
consistent with Jn. 1:1-3. the Apostle John, to whom the Holy Scripture was given to be
written at the dictation of LORD God Himself, just as Jeremiah was given the task, as well
as all of the prophets so charged, records for us that Jesus Christ is the LORD God, the
Creator.
as Isaiah writes... " Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God,
the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is
no searching of his understanding. Isa. 40:28
we find again and again that Jehovah, Jesus Christ, is Elohiym, the great " I AM " the
ever existent God, Maker of heaven and earth who identified Himself to Moses as the God of
Abraham, Issac and Jacob as we read in Ex. chapter 3.
as the Messenger of God's testimony we find an interesting example of His character in Ex.
chapter 3 in the LORD's speaking to Moses when He says... " I have surely seen the
affliction of My people which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their
taskmasters; for I know their sorrows..." v. 7.
the word " seen " translates from a word meaning to see with the eyes; the word " heard "
means to hear with the ears and the word " know " mean's to know by experience in the
objective and subjective senses. it would have been enough for us to understand that the
LORD God saw from His abode in heaven in an objective sense, the affliction of the
Israelites, but God goes on to say He's knows their affliction by subjective verification
since the word " yada " or " know " carries with it these two attributes.
just as The Angel of Jehovah tested Abraham who did not withhold his son, so too the LORD
God tested the Egyptians by reason of knowing experientially the affliction of the
Israelites by a personal appeareance under the yoke of the Egyptian taskmaster's.
anywhere in the NT when we find the word " kurios " connected to Jesus Christ, His Name
Jehovah is referenced... He is " Emmanuel " God with us. Mt. 1:23
