WELCOME TO THE CULT.

WELCOME TO ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS!

The only requirements for AA membership are a desire to stop drinking,
and a [mandatory] desire to accept the AA religious beliefs.

Please leave your brain outside the door. We will provide you with a
new one.

You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be
used against you by judgemental members with the longest sobriety.

You have the right to carry a Bible, you'll need it to find God.
If you cannot afford a Bible, one will be provided for you.

Do you understand the rights and requirements I have just read to you?

With these rights in mind, do you wish to speak to your higher power
(God)?

If not, please have a seat, and shut the hell up. No one wants to hear
from you. If you have anything important to say, don't say anything,
because you have nothing important to say.

Remember, KEEP COMING BACK!

I understand that this is mainly a USA group.

It's ironic, because USA came into existence with the aim of freeing
the people of North America from the tyranny of European kings. But
now USA is much more authoritarian and much more tyranncial then
Western Europe. This is reflected in the obsessive authority
structure
of AA groups in USA. In Western Europe, AA leaders know what they
can
get away with, and so they keep a low profile.

YOU GET THE AA LEADERS YOU DESERVE.

We don't put up with such people in Western Europe, so there are no
dysfuncional AA leaders in Western Europe, because they know we'll
give them a boot up the hole if they try that with us here in Western
Europe.

Give them a boot up the hole, you AA members in USA !

You are an example of a low profile? Just posting trash. Last time the
people of western Europe came over here to put a boot up our hole, we
chased them back into the ocean, our boots your holes.
So if you don't have anything productive to say, why don't you not say
anything. Tell it to your "mates" if you even have any. Sounds like your
style of A.A. allows you to carry a lot of resentments and arrogance. I
surly believe you are not the typical member of A.A.in Europe, because I
have been to meetings in England, Italy, France and a few other places
over there. A.A. is the same over there as it is here. People that stay
sober read the book, do the steps, help the new, and are in general
happy. You sound the apposite and I am sure most people that read your
post know you have brown eyes, because your are full of shit.

Dave, its easier to filter these _special people_ than it is to answer them

)From a most Western edge of Europe citizen :-)

Although pre- Euro I would have denied being European - I mean what is a
European... Being from Europe doesnt necessarily do away with being Irish -
but ....
Its kinda like saying if you're in a ladies toilet, you're a woman - yaknow
what I mean :-))

Cheers
Tommy

Hmm altho in retrospect I know quite a few yanks that think they're Irish
because their granny got stuffed by an Irishman :-))

I happen to be Irish too.

If we're being serious, perhaps the nature of AA meetings varies within a nation state.
Within the same nation state, there are regions which have their own way of doing things.
I live in North Yorkshire, England, and we do things differently here, and that way of doing things filters through into AA meetings, not that I have attended many of them. But AA organisers know how much they can get away with in North Yorkshire, if they don't want to be ignored completely.

In USA it seems it's common for courts to order AA attendance for alcohol related offences as an alternative to jail.
That seems to be the major gripe in this forum.
In UK it's not usual for a judge to name AA in such circumstances but to order an offender to have counselling in a general sense.
