1. Dailies
2. Took a picture of the garage with the bookcase out in the middle of the
floor and some pictures of the amaryllis flowers in the back yard
3. Put a second coat of paint on the area I painted yesterday
4. Emptied the bookcase out in the middle of the floor onto the workbench
and cleaned up the bookcase
5. Cleaned up the little solar lights that were on a shelf and put them in
the yard to see if they still charge (I pulled them up so the tree man
wouldn't trip on them)
6. Swept and scrubbed the floor where the bookcase would go
7. Took the masking tape off of the garage door hardware
8. Moved the bookcase that was out in the middle of the floor against the
wall I just painted and filled it with the gardening tools and supplies from
the bookcase on the other side of the garage
9. Cleaned and oiled hand garden tools and put them in the bookcase
10. Cleaned up newly emptied bookcase and moved it in place next to the
bookcase that now holds the gardening tools and supplies and filled it with
paint, wood stain, painting tools and supplies, caulk, etc.
11. Put chain saw, red tub that contains Christmas decorations and a silk
pointsetta hanging basket that is in a plastic bag on top of the bookcases

At this point I had to quit. I realized I was getting tired, my back hurts
(even though I wore my support) and I hadn't done a very neat job of putting
the painting supplies on the shelves. I'll work on it again another day.
Right now--the garage still looks like a pit and I found out today that Mom
doesn't want to throw away the antique furniture in the garage--even though
we don't have room for it--and it all needs to be re-finished--some of it is
ruined beyond fixing, I'm sure....but she's always liked it. This kind of
put a wrench in the works. I was going to put the other two bookcases where
that furniture is. The antique trunks can't go either.

As I was emptying the shelves I tossed enough stuff to fill one of our trash
cans on wheels that I take to the curb. In other Magic News--All of the wood
I put out last night was gone today.

Gotta make supper--I may lay down for a minute first.

Inspiring day yet again! As for the furniture and trunks, if your mom could
sell the stuff would she be more tempted to get rid of it? In my experience
if it is antique and isn't a dresser missing all it's drawers, a veneered
piece with the veneer falling off or rock maple someone will buy it. I'm
into anti-Q's both as a dealer and a collector and at auctions I'm still
amazed at what old crap furniture sells to those who do restoration
(generally in the $25-$350 range)....even more amazed when I see what
beautiful things they turned some of the crap into.

Trunks are a pretty hot collectible thing at the moment...I don't care for
them personally, but whatever trunks I come across are a quick easy $25-50
sale (wholesale). If per chance they are something that you would like to
put back into the house they can be repaired if need be, good DIY source
here for parts. (If you really want to haul them to the curb though don't
let your mom see what he gets for them restored.)

Wow, loads of great work.

Maybe later your mum will decide they can go, or maybe you can place
them neatly in your decluttered garage so keeping them will not be
such a problem. Try not to get disheartened.

Feels good.

...stuff is just stuff. It can't love you, it can't take care of you. It is just something
for you to deal with--it complicates life. Brenda, arc 2004.

Thank you, Rich.

I was tired last night--and when I'm tired I seem to find it easy to look at
the down side of everything. The antique furniture and the trunks are
stacked up against walls--not really in the way--not really something we
need to keep either. But...right now there is a whole bunch of stuff still
in that second bay that I need to deal with. Perhaps after that space is
cleared Mom and I can re-visit what to so with at least some of the
antiques. They may just fall apart where they stand in the meantime.

Oh yes! It felt very good. I wasn't sure that stuff would be gone. It didn't
have any nails--mostly new--but some of it was long. I was hoping by
bundling it with the duct tape that they would accept it--and they did...or
someone took it away--doesn't matter. It's GONE! Yeah!

It took me a while to decide to get rid of real wood. I love wood--even more
than a sturdy cardboard box.
