How can one be happy in heaven knowing that a loved one is in hell?

Have heard Christian clergy of all stripes furnish various answers, but
none of them really addressed the question.

In response to your handle, get a bunch of bananas and a blanket, then
crawl under the table in the library, cover yourself with the blanket
and relax. :)

The clergy wont be able to give you an answer that addresses your
question, I suspect this is because, they've never been trained to
deal with such matters.

I believe the standard answer is that you are somehow "transfigured" so that
things like eternity, loved ones in hell, etc. don't bother you. I.e. you're
changed somehow so that you're not you anymore.

They won't, either. The best they can do is to make up stories, like
"god" makes you forget them.

My favorite is the "heavenly bodies" they get when they go to heaven. How
would they recognize their loved ones in a group of billions of new bodies?
Would these bodies represent the person in childhood, puberty, young adult,
middle age, advancing years, or waiting to die?

And what about all the sacred sperms that are flushed down the toilet, and
the eggs that exit a woman's body once a month? Do they get names? Do
they get one of those bodies? Or do they burn in hell for not accepting
jesus?

Usually the Christian runs out of patience at this point and starts
attacking the messenger, informing you that it is a sin to question your
faith, etc, etc, etc...

It is a stupid question.
You fail to realize that heaven is a concept beyond your
understanding. You question reminds me of one asked by my
mother-in-law: "Do you think they will let me smoke in heaven?"
What do you think.
And then next..........
Who cares what you think?

I'll stick with "assumption" as in assuming that heaven and hell do exist.

To bring it down to an understandable level, let's play a game. Let's
pretend that the two realms do exist as put forth by most Xtian sects.

The original post was to see if there are answers that differ from those I
have heard during my lifetime.

Some of your ilk comprehended what I was looking for and provided answers
which have turned out to be the same or similar to what I've heard
throughout.

But others, e.g., Joan Douglas, went off on a tangent saying that the
question is moot because the two realms do not exist. She was one of those
who failed to grasp my little game of pretend. You seem to fall into that
category too.

Then, because I recognize that much Christian doctrine requires one to
completely abandon reason in favor of blind belief, I asked whether the
scholarly Xtian philosophers like Augustine, Ignatius, and Aquinas were
motivated by some self-serving interest. Got some good input and a lot of
irrelevant flak e.g., questioning whether these guys were scholarly in the
1st place.

Hope this clarifies the essence of my questions.

The obvious (and contrived) answer is that the love we experience on Earth
is flawed and imperfect compared to the Perfect Love we will experience
in Heaven, so, basically, those whom we currently hold to be loved ones
won't be so loved anymore, once we find out what Real Love is!

A much better question, that REALLY stumps the theists, is "What crime
could a human possibly commit that would warrant eternal torture, with no
chance of reprieve, as an appropriate punishment?", followed by, "Do you
think that blasphemy against the Holy Spirit would be such a crime?" If
they say, "No", point them to Matthew 12:31-32. If they say, "Yes", ask
them how they could worship such a monster.

The usual answer is beyond psychopathic - that the hypothetical God
makes those in the equally hypothetical heaven not have any kind of
human feelings any more so they won't feel any anguish for those they
loved for decades and are in the equally hypothetical hell.

Lie noted.

Which should be obvious even to him. All they need to do is substitute
something they find silly and ask themselves the new version. But a
mental block prevents them grasping that anybody could find their
beliefs silly.

>>That being the case, why not just shut up, yes?

This combination of arrogance, ignorance and inability to understand
the world beyond Christianity is why they get treated as idiots so
often.

I'll assume you have no answer, but I'm mostly concerned with recognizing
your family and friends in the afterlife. If I met you in our 70s and we
became friends (and I became religious), I wouldn't recognize you in a
20-something "glorified" body.

What to you are stupid questions are really the questions about the
inconsistencies in the church that you should be asking yourself.

Like this one.

How could an organization like the RCC lay claim to absolute morality and
at the same time attempt to cover up a plethora of sex crimes committed
by authorities within the organization?

Exactly the opposite is true, since nobody can provide real-world evidence
that some "satan" exists. You're accepting the word of your priest(s)
without question, and without backing evidence in the real world. That's
gullible, duke.

All you needed to do is to say that you have no response other than the
lame responses that have already been noted by the religionists.

But you chose to go beyond what was asked by declaring that the issue is
moot as afterlife doesn't exist, followed by your scanty opinion of
Aquinas.

Inside the domain of discourse that is Christian mythology, it is
remarkably obvious.

There is no way that human love can match God's love. But if you can't even
demonstrate human love, you're not ready for God's love.

Rejection of God and his teachings. If you cant' offer human love, you can't
receive God's love and you show by life in the flesh that you don't care. Things
like abortions, and murder, and refusing to help the needy, etc.

Absolutely yep, it's the one "type" of sin that absolutely will keep you out of
the heavenly kingdom unless repented of and sought forgiveness and absolution
while still on this earth. For once you die, all decision making is gone.

Please provide some biblical support for this assertion that people who aren't

You should present the question to Fundamentalist
Christians. After all, this state of affairs already exists
for them. For such Christians, nine-tenths of the people
they see and meet are by definition hell-bound, including a
majority of coworkers and friends and blood relations.

Here's another conundrum: do you even have the slightest concept of
eternity? Do you understand the first thing about what it would mean
to be under your barbaric, schizophrenic, psychpathic, child-abusing,
misogynistic god's heel for eternity, forced to praise that scum?
That, to me, is real hell.

That's why, even if you hypocritical, lying, cowardly, vacuous, loser,
Christian bastards are right, I flat refuse to spend any time with
that lowlife scum of a god of yours. And you can tell him that form
me if he ever turned out to be real.

Good point. You need both a carrot and sick to complete the con game.
No "Satan", no need for the Church. It'd be tough (but possible) to
have the Church if there was no claim of Satan.
On the other hand, if you had "Satan", and no "God", I doubt if you
could find a way around it to work your scam.

Ducky's favorite Bible, the Douay-Rheims 1899 American Edition, says
this about the thief.

Luke 23:43

And Jesus said to him: Amen I say to thee, this day thou shalt be with
me in paradise.

If Jesus went to Heaven the day he died, the Catholic doctrine that he
'descended into hell and on the third day rose again' is totally bogus.

So your skin isn't alive, eh?

Does that mean your fat isn't alive?

Does that mean your blood isn't alive?

Does that mean your muscle isn't alive?

The list of not alive, could go on.

Jesus is very much the ONLY way to the Father. That statement does NOT say one

Father.

So I can clearly advise the possibility of non Christians accepted into heaven.
Jesus said "follow me in love and obedience to the Father and love and serve our
fellow man", he never said you must believe in me first.

Actually, I've never seen that bible, but the beautiful part is that all valid
bibles say the same thing although they may be in different languages and
individual verses may be reworded without change in truth.

>Luke 23:43
>And Jesus said to him: Amen I say to thee, this day thou shalt be with
>me in paradise.

>------
>If Jesus went to Heaven the day he died, the Catholic doctrine that he
>'descended into hell and on the third day rose again' is totally bogus.

D-boy, you are sad. When one dies, there is no longer a 24-hour earth day to
contend with. The thief never knew the difference. Further, scripture well
states that one day is like a thousand years to God.

IT AIN'T SO!!!

Heeheehee, some of you atheist wannabes, thankfully, offer some really
worthwhile items calling for discussion and correction. Most protest_ants are
clueless as to what the NT says.

So thank you.

because of our human soul. No dog or cow or mosquito understands such things.

Of course God gave us a free choice. And it's our soul that leads us to follow
God toward love, good, right. It's only when man desires to turn another way,
usually for his advantage, that he actually turns against his soul.

But in any case, it's HIS CHOICE to turn away.

I will comment, but I don't know whether or not it
will serve as 'addressing the question'.

Hell is a self-inflicted tragedy, which is not a spectacle
that causes happiness in anyone in heaven. But I think
that the nature of hell is generally not well understood.

I understand that hell is a natural consequence and not
some kind of judicial sentence, like that which is handed
out by a judge in our courts. It results automatically from
a violation or contradiction of the eternal divine order written
into life. It is like someone walking along a cliff top. The
true order, to remain safe, is to stay away from the cliff
edge. To violate this order by walking off the edge is to
fall and be broken on the rocks below. Similarly, to violate
the eternal divine order is to fall into some awful destination
(hell) in the spirit world. What keeps a person in hell is
not a positive external 'sentence', but the person's own
evil will, to which they are consigned and abandoned
forever. And the problem then is that they don't know how
to change their will, since they have made themselves to
be spiritually obstinate, powerless, ignorant, and destitute.
I don't know that the will is absolutely unchangeable, but a
change might take an eternity for such a being to achieve.

There is nothing anyone in heaven can do to change any
of this, since the free will of one person cannot be changed
by anyone else.

So, please explain what that means. If Jesus is the only way to the father,
how does, say, a hindu, who definitely DOES NOT believe in Jesus, get to
heaven.

Be specific, please.

YHWH is not a reference to the heavenly kingdom.

“Sadducees say there is neither resurrection nor angel nor spirit, but the
Pharisees publicly declare them all.” (Acts 23:8, NW) Their disbelief in the
resurrection is familiar to all by reason of their trying to stump Jesus in the
matter of the woman who had seven husbands.—Matt. 22:23-32.

Scripture does NOT we must say "believe in Jesus". Scripture says we must
repent of our sins, pick up our own cross, and FOLLOW Jesus. His directions for
new life call for a) love and obedience to the Father and b) love and service to
our fellow man in need.

Now, needless to say that Jesus is the one that brought us the requirement for
such love and demonstrated it himself as the way of salvation. Needless to say
further that mean Christians have a heads up on the requirement, but salvation
is not limited to Christians.

And because you don't believe as I and Christiand do and thus don't practice
such ways, you are not only unprepared, but actually refuse to participate with
Christians in the next life. You will be constrained to that group that acts
and believes like you do. That particular group is headed up by satan.
