Pope Francis: Atheists are all right!

I have been trying for years to have my fellow atheists embrace the
morals and decency espoused by the RCC's teachings. Perhaps my posts
have instead convinced Pope Francis to embrace atheists as allies
instead of adversaries. That is great news for humanity, bad news for
the haters both of the Church and atheists.

http://www.salon.com/2013/05/23/pope_francis_atheists_are_all_right/singleton/

It likely doesn’t matter much to the atheists of the world that — of
all people — Pope Francis is on their side. But he is. And that’s a
cool thing for all of us.

In a message delivered Wednesday via Vatican Radio, the new pontiff
distinguished himself with a call for tolerance and a message of
support – and even admiration – toward nonbelievers.

Naturally, a guy whose job it is to lead the world’s largest Christian
faith is still going to come at his flock with a Jesus-centric
message. But he’s taking it in an encouraging new direction. In his
message, Francis dissed the apostles for being “a little intolerant”
and said, “All of us have this commandment at heart: Do good and do
not do evil. All of us. ‘But, Father, this is not (a) Catholic! He
cannot do good.’ Yes, he can. He must. Not can: must.”

And the pope spoke of the need to meet each other somewhere on our on
common ground. “This commandment for everyone to do good, I think, is
a beautiful path towards peace. If we, each doing our own part, if we
do good to others, if we meet there, doing good, and we go slowly,
gently, little by little, we will make that culture of encounter: We
need that so much. ‘But I don’t believe, Father, I am an atheist!’ But
do good: we will meet one another there.” It was a deeper affirmation
of his comments back in March, when he declared that the faithful and
atheists can be “precious allies… to defend the dignity of man, in the
building of a peaceful coexistence between peoples and in the careful
protection of creation.”

It's not much beyond a cynical ploy.

Also, it's tacit acceptance that atheists do good things and act
morally in the absence of the teachings of the RCC.

So remind me... what exactly is the benefit of belief in a
supernatural being, if its earthly representative thinks we can do
just fine on our own?

Who know why people believe whatever it is they choose to believe. A
diiference of matters of such shouldn't be a barrier to find the
common goal of making the world a better place. The pontiff has
reached out his hand in friendship, atheists should accept that hand.
No one in this incidence is being asked to change their beliefs

Therefor it is they who don't practice what they preach. It doesn't
make their message that people should learn to help each other,
especially the down-trodden who need help the most, any less valid. It
only makes themselves look bad in the eyes of the public

If you're an atheist, why do you care what the pope says or does
concerning atheists?

Additionally, morals and decency are not espoused by the RCC's
practices... which makes their teachings suspect.

There is absolutely no evidence that the RCC has any intention of
making the world a better place. It has too much vested in mystery and
control and power and money.

The pontiff is responsible for keeping birth control out of the hands
of those that need it; for continuing to work against abortion; for
working against stem cell research; for keeping women as second-class
citizens in the church hierarchy. Any single one of those reasons is
enough to ignore the hand.

The proof will be in the end, anyway. If religious believers are
correct, then we'll get judged according to our actions. If they're
not correct, then doing good things while you're alive is the only
thing that counts.

Do those "morals and decency" espoused by the RCC's "teachings"

It's long past time for fake-atheist J to stop telling that lie. He's
not fooling anyone. Atheists don't refer to the Pope as His Holiness.
Atheists don't post articles written by Bill Donohue except as
examples of hypocrisy.

If vile J's record here is an example of his behavior elsewhere, he's
never done a good thing or acted morally in his life.

when he knows damned well that popes are pedophile protecting hypocrites.

That's where all you bible pounders go wrong. Buying into the concept
that without religion there would be no morality - that simply is not
the case. Without religion, morality has a better chance if anything.

Having looked over some of the comments drawn by your statement, isn't it just
amazing how ignorant there atheist wannabe's are. They have no clue as to truth
of the RCC, never once knowing that we of the RCC have knows ..........forever,
that God rewards lifestyle following his teachings, and not the way of the
devil..

The bible contains harsh words against non-believers. If it's a god's
word, and the god is omniscient, how can a mere mortal man change this
god's mind? It doesn't make sense to me. "He's-a cookin-a something up,

You have no idea what good things are, let alone pass judgement on
others.

If you do good things only because you listen to imaginary sky pixies,
then you're psychotic. You should do good things just because they're
good things, and for no other reason, you piece of shit.

But their behaviour here tells everybody that it hasn't been very
successful.

And if they weren't also narcissistic they would realise how nasty it

Says the moron who can't defend his own faith.

Poor poor dukie can't admit he made a mistake. And compounds it by
misusing "strawman" once again.

The Obelisk from Egypt was brought to Rome by Emperor Caligula in 37 AD. It
originally stood in his circus on a spot to the south of the basilica, close to
the present Sacristy.

There are few surviving sources on Caligula's reign, although he is described as
a noble and moderate ruler during the first two years of his rule. After this,
the sources focus upon his cruelty, extravagance, and sexual perversity,
presenting him as an insane tyrant.

I definitely misused "ancestor" in place of "descendent". Either you were
intelligent enough to know that, or you were too dumb to even note you avoided
the point of the statement.

I rest my case. You're nothing but hot air at best.

Gosh, that was fun. Now watch rl.
