Catholic School Closings Need More Than A Miracle
January 30, 2012

THE DECLINE of the Philadelphia region's Catholic
school system is old news. In Philly alone, the
Archdiocese now plans to close 18 elementary schools
and two high schools. But between 2000 and 2010, the
city lost 23 Catholic grade schools and two Catholic
high schools, and total enrollments in Philly Catholic
schools fell from about 50,000 to around 30,000. The
city's public charter schools have more students than
its Catholic schools.

Smaller families, shifting demographics, an increase in charter schools and
Catholic schools' rising tuition have combined to siphon off many students. The
archdiocese already had closed 30 schools during the past five years, leaving
178 schools in the city and four surrounding counties.

on contraceptives and aids, or the many other things contributing to
the decline and fall of Catholicism.

Benedict XVI's drive to stop declining church attendance
17 Aug 2011

Even countries like Ireland and Italy, which have been
staunchly Catholic for centuries, have seen sharp drops
in the number of Catholics attending church.

The Roman Catholic Church's reputation has been badly
hit by a string of paedophile priest scandals, as well
as decades of creeping secularisation, in which the
Vatican has dismayed many Catholics with its conservative
views on issues such as women priests, gay marriage,
artificial contraception and abortion.

In Spain, Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, the prime minister,
has clashed with the Church over abortion and changed the
law to make it easier for women seeking to terminate
unwanted pregnancies.

Around 80 per cent of Spaniards identify themselves as
Catholics but two-thirds seldom or never attend church.
Less than 50 per cent of Irish go to Mass at least once
a week, compared with 85 per cent two decades ago, with
many Catholics left shocked and angry over the decades-
long cover-up of sexually abusive priests.

In Italy, where more than 95 per cent of people describe
themselves as Catholic, church attendance has fallen to
less than 30 per cent. Catholic churches and chapels in
France are also increasingly empty and cathedrals are
visited more by tourists than by the faithful.

Catholicism is also in decline in the United States,
where 400,000 people left the Church in 2008 alone.
Even in Latin America, the Church has been hit by
sex scandals in countries such as Brazil and Mexico.

More Catholic schools closing across U.S.

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — As Pope Benedict XVI next week

schools across the country, long a force in educating

the same fate as St. Monica.

About 1,267 Catholic schools have closed since 2000

students, or 14 percent, according to the National

atheist I know you may visit this site but all you will do is just do
a quick scan and pick out a few things to claim you can counter; but
you don't realize that the reduction in church attendance is a sign

- Since the early 1970s the percentage of the
population counting itself as Catholic has
remained stable at around 25 percent. But
according to Pew, no other major faith has
experienced greater net losses with 31.4 percent
of U.S. adults saying they were raised Catholic
and about one in 10 describing themselves as
former Catholics.

- In the face of these losses the Church has
maintained its share of the U.S. population
by winning its own converts but mostly through
immigration, especially from Latin America. The
United States Conference of Catholic Bishops
says that about 39 percent of U.S. Catholics are
Hispanic.

Key Findings and Statistics on Religion in America
More than one-quarter of American adults (28%) have left the faith in which
they were raised in favor of another religion - or no religion at all. If
change in affiliation from one type of Protestantism to another is included,
44% of adults have either switched religious affiliation, moved from being
unaffiliated with any religion to being affiliated with a particular faith,
or dropped any connection to a specific religious tradition altogether.

The survey finds that the number of people who say they are unaffiliated
with any particular faith today (16.1%) is more than double the number who
say they were not affiliated with any particular religion as children. Among
Americans ages 18-29, one-in-four say they are not currently affiliated with
any particular religion.

The Landscape Survey confirms that the United States is on the verge of
becoming a minority Protestant country; the number of Americans who report
that they are members of Protestant denominations now stands at barely 51%.
Moreover, the Protestant population is characterized by significant internal
diversity and fragmentation, encompassing hundreds of different
denominations loosely grouped around three fairly distinct religious
traditions - evangelical Protestant churches (26.3% of the overall adult
population), mainline Protestant churches (18.1%) and historically black
Protestant churches (6.9%).

Was there a point to all this?

The Catholic Church is growing in 3rd-world countries, particularly in
Africa. But it is imploding, big time, in developed countries.

Yet, their populations keep increasing. We forget that just about every
woman that has an abortion goes on to marry later, and start a regular
"nuclear" family, Husband-Wife-Kids. She may even have more kids than
she would've if she'd not had an abortion.
As for immigration, you have a point there. Or as one Catholic Priest
said, "Good Catholic families!" For a generation or two, they'll breed
like rabbits and live like pigs until they figure it out. Then, less
will mean more.

Benedict XVI's drive to stop declining church attendance

In Italy, where more than 95 per cent of people describe
themselves as Catholic, church attendance has fallen to
less than 30 per cent. Catholic churches and chapels in
France are also increasingly empty and cathedrals are
visited more by tourists than by the faithful. Catholicism
is also in decline in the United States, where 400,000
people left the Church in 2008 alone.

How many more joined? My diocese alone adds 250-300 new baptised/confirmed/new
communicates every year at Easter. That 58,000 new + baptized babies. So when
you say 400,000 left, does that mean attendance is down that much, or they
joined a non-Catholic Church?

Here's a fine example of Dino (aka Bobby Heishman) thinks knowing the
word of God means:

"I am not interested in you and Whale patty."
- Osprey referring to Patrick Humphrey and his wife in
<o5mdnWE7v_p...@comcast.com>

"Maybe you and Whale should get away from that sick perverted stuff"
- Osprey referring to Patrick Humphrey and his wife in
<_PudnRGGZfw...@comcast.com>

"I wonder if they have to warn the community about him, where ever he
and whale goes?"
- Osprey referring to Patrick Humphrey and his wife in
<5YWdnT9Ahbq...@comcast.com>

"Rest assure you're not brave enough and hopefully not stupid enough,
that is if you don't want to be in a pine box, to come around here and
run your mouth like you do in here."
- Osprey posting in <740c72c3-91c9-4dad-
a7db-80d...@h5g2000yqh.googlegroups.com>

"Now, fuck off and live with your low life self."
- Osprey in <coednWw4susxUmDV...@comcast.com>

"Fuck you...Captain.
How's that for your ass chewing...:o)
This Sarge just told a Captain to fuck off."
- Osprey in <g7adnf0SK5n0vEvb...@comcast.com>

Indeed, these are fine examples of the behavior self proclaiming
Christians like Bobby resort to.

Map whatever fantasy you like onto reality, this is a tendency that
religious people have. Just don't expect anyone sane to see it as
anything other than a fantasy. These end times, they seem to last an
awful long time. Apparently more than 50% of evangelicals in the US
think that Jesus will be back within their lifetimes? BAAAHAHAHAHA!!

What do you with them?

Nothing adds "zing" to your snack time like Hostess® Zingers!

When you’re looking for something sweet, dazzle yourself with
one-of-a-kind Hostess Zingers. Nothing fulfills your cravings
like Chocolate or Vanilla Zingers with their thick layer of
tasty icing, moist cake and famous Hostess crème filling. And
if you really want to zing things up, you can indulge in the
truly unique Raspberry Zinger, with its irresistible coating
of shredded coconut. Zingers are as fun to eat as they are
to say!

Try all three delicious flavors:

Devil’s food cake with chocolate icing
Vanilla cake with vanilla icing
Vanilla cake with raspberry icing and coconut
Available in multi-pack boxes and 3-cake packs.
