" But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false
teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord
that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. 2 Pet. 2:1 (KJV)

in this verse of Holy Scripture we have what some see as Universal Atonement.

Universal Atonement is the idea that Christ paid the penalty for the sins of all mankind,
and some go so far as to say for angelic beings as well.

this of course gives man license to continue in sin so that he supposes grace may abound,
whereas the Bible clearly teaches that someone elect of God to be the object of His grace
dies to sin, ceasing to carry on in his former life and has an intense desire to read,
ponder, and obey the Word of God as set forth in Holy Scripture.

the passage itself conditions who is being spoken of as being " bought " by God.

it certainly is not false prophets who are bought by God in the salvation sense of the
word... those bought by God in the salvation sense of the word die to sin as in Ro. 6.

the Bible word " bought " in this passage has to do with ownership, posession, since by
reason of the mention of false prophets being bought it can not possibly mean " bought "
as in salvation since the elect do not deny the Lord whereas the non-elect do.

ownership of all things; being the possessor of all things that He has made, God is
declared to be in posession of the righteous and wicked alike as we find in Gen. 14:17
where the word ' bought ' is translated ' possessor. ' possessing all things is the right
of the Creator... automatic salvation is not the right of wicked man. Christ has paid for
the sins of those who's names He's written in His Book of Life whereas the other
" books " spoken of in Rev. 20:12 are the books from which the non-elect shall be judged.

Universal Atonement is the hope of co-redeemer's.
