No muss, no fuss, no need to cuss. Just woke up, peed, flushed the
commode and came in and turned on the coffee pot, the movement detector
did it's thing and when I got around to sitting down at the keyboard,
Dapper had the little window in the lower right corner proudly displayed
fer me a saying. "Look what I been doing while you were asleep Charlie!"

Old Biker Jack was over yesterday and I ventured to ask him how he was
doing or if he was getting any use out of the DSL Linux distribution I'd
put on the little puter I'd built for him couple of weeks ago and he sed
that he'd come to realize what "Debian Based" meant and had got to
playing around and found the file ymessenger_1.0.4_1_i386.deb,
downloaded it and did a dpkg -i ymessenger_1.0.4_1_i386.deb like it sed
to do, shewed Mrs. Biker Jack how to use it and they hadn't even booted
into Winders in a week, so I reckon he camped out quite happily. Only
question he had was, How does I set thet thang to automatically boot
Linux so's I don't have to sit thar and catch it before it goes on and
boots Winders?" ;-)

SuSE 10.1 is chugging along pretty good, but it does *chug* particularly
when booting up and it does it's check for updates. It is slow, slow
slow, compared to Ubuntu in that area and will run full blast cpu for
few minutes doing it while Ubuntu does it damn near transparently with
my not even noticing that anything is going on in the background. Kind
of an annoyance and I haven't been able to get it to recognize some
supposedly valid signatures for the repositories I have it set to.

Think I'm going to have to give a "Thumbs Up" to Dapper, even in Release
Candidate stage over the SuSE in final.

Obligatory ARAA comment: What the hell is this American Idol Shite, How
the hell did Ted W. manage to do a double back flip and land on the
premise that people who drink a little wine or take communion are not
sober, and when was the last time one of you guys replied to one of the
Irishman's posts? Sheesh! Lighten up. Irishmen need Luv and 'tention
too. Unhuh! They do so too. I'd talk to him myself, but he don't
unnerstand nauffen I sez. ;-(

Oh, I also noticed a GNU pretty neat innovation. If I fart at a
sufficient volume and duration for it to be heard over the normal noise
level in the living room, Ubuntu causes a blast of Pine Oil scented room
deodorant to be emitted into the Environmental Control System in the AC
and immediately increases the volume in the XMMS Multimedia System. A
quick repetition of the action causes things to get damn musical and
noisy pretty quick in here and smell almost instantly like some one
"Shit a Christmas Tree." ;-)

Other than that, not much else GNU gnus frum The Old GNU Zoo for the
past week.

Have a Great Memorial Day Weekend yew 'merican Gals and Guys. If Yew
ain't 'merican just turn yer volume down and do yer normal thang and
don't get yer britches bunched. ;-)

Me Too Ernie. Gonna be nice but hot for the weekend. ;-)

Tanks fer the birthday rerun guys. Gave me a pleasant belly ache all
over again. Got all the way through both of the Train Movies. Quite a
few Temple Town scenes in the BNSF tape and I'm familiar with just about
all the scenery and locations on the whole run. Enjoyed it. ;-)

Ahhhhhhh, I figger I do something different with my obnoxious posts
about the winner of American Idol......Seems I caused a little bit of a
debate(not suprised, this is ARAA).
Seems we all have a difference of opinion on what is actually *good*
music........Me, I listen to just about everything except RAP....But hey
I won't criticise it, times change, people change, generations
change...it's a way of life.......

I like to talk to Tommy I think he's pretty cool for an Irishman....That
must make me cool too......Argh argh.....Don't worry Charlie I
understand you........sometimes. ;0)

I dunno about Teddyboy, I think he grabbed the wrong medication
bottle.....

I need that capability hooked-up into my GNUTV for food network and
other stuff, if it can do complimentary scents as well...........

I attended CTC on and off several times back in the late 60's while
stationed periodically at Ft. Hood, and then then spring and summer of
1970 took a break in service to attend long enough to wrap up an
associates degree program in Electronics and Communications before
returning to S. E. Aisa the last time. The university was fairly new
then and just a Community College that although located on a plot of
land that was donated by the federal Government that is enveloped
entirely within the FT. Hood Military Reservation served the entire
area. A lot of the Student projects were wrapped around the implementing
of KNCT at that time and I like to feel like I had a little bit of a
hand in the the founding of it. I knew a lot of the people who devoted
scads of time to getting it off the ground. Had an old retired Major
General for a student advisor and counselor. Made me feel kind of like I
was getting little special attention. ;-)

I then went back in the early eighties for a couple of semesters for
some courses in Criminology and Corrections. Got some fond memories of
the school and radio station. Old Bill Hecke (Weatherman) and Charlie
St. George (Memory Maker) are casual acquaintances. I owned a home out
in Copperas Cove for most of that time. My youngest daughter was born there.

Just listening to it on a daily basis sparks lot of good, pleasant
memories.

Hope you come to enjoy it on a regular basis. Us locals kind of proud of
it and it's world wide reach. ;-)

I'm not running Dapper. I'm just gonna let the new Update Manager do
it's thing when the time comes.

I *am*, however, running the Dapper-based SimplyMEPIS 6.0. I got the
very first version put out -- called Experimental -- and have been doing
full Synaptic updates ever since. They have since rolled out several
"test" builds, an alpha or two, and are now at beta2, I believe. Word
has it that to update that to the final (once Dapper goes final) will
require at least the first beta. We'll see.

Neat to have a station to *really* call your own. Tell the locals,
Portage, Michigan is tunin' in and lovin' it. (Maybe tell 'em
Kalamazoo, they prolly heard of that ;-) )

Here's a download to remember that Glenn Miller tune...............
