Well, it finished, cleared WGA, Service Pack 3 went on, it's once again
a fully functional computer.
Now I can plug my microwave back in and fix me a cup of coffee and a
samwich. I was about on the verge of placing myself before my customers. ;-)

Jealousy is knockin seen' that they got the deal and I didn't... but then
again, I typically don't try to rape the unknowing. For example. I got a
call regarding a domain I owned that a company happened to change their name
to without owning the domain. I worked a deal to sell them the domain for 1k
plus 12 months of 10 hours per month for services at 1k per. Sweet deal I
thought.... Then I read 1.5k "rental" and 200k option! I feel like kickin
some ass.
Shit, I'll GIVE EM 10 KEY TERM RELEVANT DOMAINS AND HOST 'EM AND DEVELOP 'EM
just to get the 11.5k per month contract!
Guess I better start developing all these damn rehab domains I own too!

Nothing exotic. ;-)
First, lemme say I'm seeing a lot of computers lately that seemingly
have been generated surplus or homeless due to shut down, failure, or
defunct social service agencies/organizations, state agencies, etc. Kind
of like folk show up for work one morning, boss sez, we are out of
business. Clean out your desks, take you personal belongings, and if you
like, take your PC home with you, save us the trouble of getting rid of it.
So, I'm kind of in a quandary on occasion as to who the sumbiches
actually belong to. ;-)
This one had a normal "User" restricted user account on it to which the
person who brought it to me had login privileges, but nothing else.
It was a Teacher's computer with two levels of administrator accounts
above user. ;-)
First thing I had do was reset passwords 'nd get to top level
administration. From there it wasn't too much of a prollem.
Pretty much a Virgin Dell, still with all Dell support stuff on it, but
had never had seemingly any of the MS upgrades for XP since the original
installation of the OS and all the ancillary *agency* use software on
it. It had commercial or business use AVG, but it hadn't seeming been
run or updated in several years.
Wasn't showing any *great* abnormality's other than just bloated and
slow, slow, slow.
Run several full passes on it with CCleaner, stripped out the old AVG
and installed the latest Free Avast! Took about three hours to get it
through the first boot up scan and all the shit it found moved to locker
or vault. second full scan went pretty fast, did back and forth between
virus scan and CCleaner couple of times and then had to manually delete
couple of registry entries for few nasty .dll that was no longer
available at boot up that it persisted in looking for. then did generic
Windows disk clean up and disk error check. It could still stand being
booted safe mode off the net and defragmented. Still got it for couple
of days so I man do that yet just for hell of it. Kicked windows
firewall back in 'nd with the Avast! it quit complaining 'bout security
and surprisingly all the fscken games 'nd P to P stuff on it is still
functional. It will go home with a lecture. ;-)
It's a lil Dell Pentium 4 @ 2.66 GHz, but only 256 MEG memory and low
MEM Intel on board Graphics.
It gets along with MS 'nd MS don't seem to give a shit that it's
registered to a no longer existent entity or agency. ;-)
What I've done so far hasn't hasn't interfered with my sleep any. ;-)
Dunno what future may hold for me freedom wise.

Yeah, those are spec'd out to be not much more than dumb terminals
accessing an enterprise server of some sort.

The way I understand it, a lot of those come "pre-activated" from the
manufacturer, and they really don't ever call home.
I got my hands on what is supposed to be a Dell OEM XP Pro SP2 disk. As
long as the code "fits", I think it would fly as a reinstall disk.
Haven't had the opportunity to put it to the test as of yet.

Who hell sed 'ny thng 'bout showers. It raining like hell. The courtyard
drain outside my door clogged, I got acidic rain water running inch deep
'round my toes. Bar of lye soap 'nd half section wilderness outback to
run nekked in 'nd through the bush. Tejas ain't much wurse in Feb than
