The purpose of Newsgroup alt.recovery.aa

QUOTED FROM:

I. Alt.Recovery.AA, the Newsgroup

1. What is Alt.Recovery.AA?
Alt.Recovery.AA is a USENET newsgroup. Its purpose is to discuss
Alcoholics Anonymous (A.A.) and the A.A. program of recovery from
alcoholism. Note that 'Alt.Recovery' is also a valid USENET newsgroup
name and sometimes articles are cross-posted between the two
newsgroups, so watch the Newsgroups and Followup-To header lines both
when you read and when you respond or post. One of the customs of
USENET is the FAQ, or Frequently Asked
Questions document. Normally the FAQ provides information about the
newsgroup and the subject matter of the newsgroup. This is the FAQ for
Alt.Recovery.AA. There is a separate FAQ for Alt.Recovery. If you are
unfamiliar with USENET then some of the postings in
news.announce.newusers might be handy in explaining the customs.

(For the rest of the article, go to the website).

Bob, I'll try to get off on a little better foot with you on this.

The FAQ for alt.recovery.aa that is posted at www.faqs.org is outdated.
David Hawkins the original maintainer of the fAQ died several years ago,
but had set up an automated process that kept the FAQ posted on a regular
monthly basis up until sometime back in October of November of last year
at which time someone noticed the FAQ was no longer being posted and
asked why. I took the liberty of trying to research out why. Slready
knowing David had died, but not knowing why the automatic postings had
stopped. Still don't know. I assume the account that had existed at the
Well or www.well.com which David had used had died also. Anyway, I took
on the monthly posting of it in the format you are linking to entered
into a correspondence with Ted H. as to how best go about straightening
things out. It was discussed here on the newsgroup alt.recovery.aa with
wome comments by other posters and then an RFD was submitted for updating
or revising the FAQ. What it came down to is Ted H. with comments and
suggestions from the posters on alt.recovery.aa revised the FAQ. He and I
both tried to contact someone responsible at faq.org to get the revised
version in place of the outdated version that is on file there to no
avail.

Ted H. then took the responsibility to find a new place for the revised
FAQ to reside and set up an account with geocities for it to reside. He
posts it monthly alond with periodic monthly pointers to it. It was last
posted on January 1 of this year with, maybe a pointer psot refrencing it
as he usually does at intervals during the month.

The revised version may be accessed at:

http://www.geocities.com/ted_aitch

Most all the discussion and back and forth that went into this, both
seriously and in jest by any number of posters on alt.recovery.aa can be
seen in probably one of the threads archived on Google linked with the
following URL..

http://tinyurl.com/35tszw

There may have possibly been some mispellings in this post as I'm on a
differnt machine at present from which I usually post to ARAA on and in
the process of installing a new system and haven't got around to
configuring a spell checker for it yet. It's been kind of a hectic and
frustrating day for me.

Wouldn't it be best to wait 'till your knee stops jerking before trying

Yeah, I noticed that after my hasty posting, that he had included a link the
new revised FAQ you had put so much of your time into and are deserving of
so much credit which I neglected to give you for helping to hammer it out
with your positive critiquing and suggestions during the time Ted H. was
trying get some kind of idea as to what the group felt it should be.

Perhaps, and hopefully, no one else did the same as I on missing the link
and in not knowing that there is actually a new revised FAQ and not mistake
the first link they seen in the post pointing to the old FAQ at faqs.org
and would simply never have known the difference or circumstances
surrounding it.

And yeah, I was in kind of a knee jerk status. Probably as you are aware,
I'm subject to be losing all my Internet Services from Internet providers
etc. even though I've been using all of them in this area, except Clearwire
Wireless with whom I've recently signed a two year contract and had been
planning on using to host a domain of mine. But RR and AT&T as I say, I'm
told by *competent* authority, I will be losing today or should have
already lost. It's going to hurt really since I'm already paid up on all of
them for the next month and I seriously doubt I will be able to get refunds
due to my losing them by way of my own willful misconduct through my
violation of so many Terms of Service on all of them even though I have had
uninterrupted service with all of them, never had any payment problems with
any of them and have never before had even one Term of Service Violation in
the last 12 to 13 years, never been kicked off of or lost an NNTP server
account or anything of that nature. But I have to accept that there might
be a first time for everything.

I was and have been afraid that every post may have to be my last and that I
might be cut off even before I get to finish saying what I want to say.

Yesterday was really hectic due to my trying to get all my contingency plans
implemented in order to cope with this impending loss. I was hoping I could
at least get maybe a small simple CLI computer set up on some obscure
dialup connection that no one would notice so I might at least check my
e-mail, should I have any remaining e-mail accounts when all this before
mentioned trouble comes down the tube. So if you guys don't see me around
you will know what happend to Charlie and can breath a sigh of relief along
with the "Thank God and What Ever Hounded Him he's Gone."

I'd like to ramble longer and entertain you more with the news of my
impending disasters which I'm sure would be really juicy to some, but I've
got to hurry up and click send before it's too late.

How is you health? Getting up out of the hatch, out of the cabin or off the
boat much recently. Getting any barnacles scrapped or bilges cleaned and
pumped with that balmy summer weather in Australia?

For six months, this post has shown up at the top of the pile, as I sort by
date/time. I guess I coulda filtered it, but it seemed easy enough to ignore it.
But somewhere during the day tomorrow, it will begin to slip down the thread
list, into ARAA obscurity. Somehow, it seems like a milestone, or a marker of a
not very notable kind - like when the odometer rolls by some arbitrary number,
like 60,000...

Cute JimB...
