These are called Daddy Long Legs or Harvestmen. These look a little different from the ones we have in Piedmont North Carolina. The ones pictured were on a trail post on the High Meadows Trail at the Blue Ridge Music Center. They re more colorful than what I am used to seeing. Good day,
I recently bought a Garmin etrex Vista HCx. The manual is woefully
inadequate.
I'm slowly learning what the various data fields mean. Some of the more
obvious data fields are easy to understand: "Speed - Maximum", "Sunrise",

I'm not sure of the real name, but, as kids, we called it a "Betty" Beetle. When you pick them up, they emit a high pitched squeal. We found this one while we were hiking today.

~Trailing Arbutus

The Trailing Arbutus was blooming yesterday along the Jumpinoff Trail of the Blue Ridge Parkway. It is a protected plant and will only grow in certain areas with the right soil mix.

This is a "Trail" of the Blue Ridge Parkway in the mountains of North Carolina. It is really more of a destination, than a trail. Once you get to the top, you get a 360 degree panoramic view of mountains and valleys and, of course, big sky and clouds.
