Yesterday we went to the Smartview Picnic Grounds on the Blur Ridge
Parkway, Virginia Section, USA. We went to walk the Smartview Trail that
circles the picnic grounds there. The Picnic Area was closed, but you still
have access to the trail. We has hoped to see some wildflowers, especially
the large white trilliums that bloom there, but it was a bit early for that.
We met a trail volunteer doing trail maintenance and he said that a lot of
the areas along the Blue Ridge Parkway are closed due the governmental
sequester. We did say turkey, several varieties of woodpecker and a
nuthatch. It was a balmy day and the views were spectacular. Sometimes when
the leaves are not yet out, you get better views.
