Everything is in tight supply and the cheaper stuff is going first.
I've been looking for cheap bricks of .22's but all that is available is
match grade at 2 to 3 times the price.

Reloading supplies about the same but if you shoot a lot, you should be
reloading then you can make anything you want.

I would not put .38sp +P in my gun unless my gun was a .357 magnum. I have
a few of those anyway.

Couple of years ago I tossed all my .38 spl and .44 spl brass as I was
shooting in the magnums and got tired of cleaning the cylinder rings.
Straight cartridge pistol brass practically never wears out.

I still have a 38 spl for my wife. I have it loaded with some 125 gr JHPs.
I think they are loaded just over the normal 38 load, but not to the +P
load. I never shoot any 38s in my 357s. If I want, I just download the
357s. Most often for just shooting I load the 158 gr SWC to about 1000 fps.
Shoots very well in the revolvers.

I have a small Kel-tec 40 cal that I download with some 155 gr bullets that
lets it kick less and still does not malfunction. If you do much shooting,
youshould be rich or reload. Good thing about reloading is that I can keep
lots of lead, powder and primers around for much less than the cost of the
loaded stuff.
From the primer shortage around 15 years ago, I have kept enough stuff
around to load atleast 1 or 2 thousand rounds for everything I have, not
counting what I already have loaded. Maybe more for some guns.

I had made the mistake, 25 years ago when I got a .357 mag of buying and
then reloading 38's to shoot in it. Picking up stray brass added to the
supply, this was stuff I tossed. My .357 mag plinking load is similar
to yours.

Primers are currently in short supply. I posted in rec.guns that pistol
primers, if you can find them, are more expensive than shotgun primers
even though shotgun primers are about 3 times as big.

I think I shot 50 rounds of some store bought 38 spl reloads in a 357 I
bought about 40 years ago. That was the first centerfire handgun I bought.
I got the gun and bought the 38s so I could shoot it. I was planning on
reloading and went shortly after and bought the reloading equipment. That
gun like most of mine have never had a factory round in them. Now all I use
the 38 cases in is the 38 revolver my wife has.

I was lucky when I started large caliber shooting. I knew several men that
were in their 40's when I was about 20. They tought me to reload and
something about shooting and how to smooth up the S&W revolver actions
somewhat.

Rifle and pistol primers do seem to go way up in price when there is
shortage. They used to be less than a penny each. In 1999 they were about
$ 15 and the last ones I bought were about $ 27. I have seen them for about
twice that at gun shows during the shortages a few years back. There is a
gun show this weekend not too far from me. No use in going as I bet there
is no good ammo or prices or guns for the averag shooter.
Just glad I have plenty to shoot for now.

I'm OK for target practice for at least a year and have enough hunting
and defense ammo to last the rest of my life. I reload everything and
also have guns that have never seen commercial ammo. All I buy are .22's.

I don't go to gun shows but from what I hear I would expect them to be
very crowded and prices sky high. That's what I heard in last crisis a
couple of years ago. It's worse today. I know of shooters buying up
anything they can find. It's crazy.
