2002 Olympic bomb scare

I live in Utah, the site of the 2002 Winter Olympic games. I work with the
local Sheriff's office, and am also a geocacher. I became aware of an event
that occurred in the county (a few miles from an Olympic venue) during the
recent Olympics. An officer checking a freeway bridge over Interstate 15
noticed a suspicious container nestled up under the structure. The freeway
was closed, the bomb squad was called, and two hours later, the container
was removed from the structure.

When the container was examined, an inscription on the outside was noted (it
was not visible from the ground). The inscription read, you guessed it,
www.geocaching.com.

PLEASE do not hide caches in suspicious places! The thoughtlessness of a
cacher in this case resulted in the closure of a major freeway for several
hours, many wasted man hours of already stretched thin public safety
officers, and undue stress to all involved. Last but not least, this is a
major black eye for the hobby. PLEASE be judicious when placing a cache!

The cache in question was removed, and now resides in an evidence locker.
Don't let your cache end up this way.
