#1 do, is get a current copy of Guidepost magazine. It is a yearly
publication on the conditions and what to see, mile by mile as you travel
to and in Alaska.

Have fun on the trip, and allow 3 months if you can. There is a lot to
see on the way through Canada, and a lot to see in the largest sate in the
union!!

Do:

Anchorage - the Zoo, Earthquake Park, the Alaska Native Heritage
Center, the Visitor's Center on 4th Avenue, and eat at Simon &
Seafort.
Fairbanks - the Riverboat Discovery tour, Alaskaland, the downtown
walking tour.
Seward - Kenai Fjords boat trip, Exit Glacier, the Alaska Sea Life
Center.

That's only a start.

Buy the latest milepost. Canada Tourism and Alaska Tourism offices
have lots of excellent info for free. Both on the web-make some
searches. In addition to Anchorage, Fairbanks there are lots of other
of great places to go and see. If in Anchorage the Anchorage Museum of
History and Art is the largest museum in the state with many gallerys
of excellent exhibits all for 6.50 each adult with various
discounts. The Native Heritage center is about 25.00 each for lots
less.

Many of these places have web sites. Do a search at Yahoo. I know the
Anchorage Museum has an extensive site.

Along the way on the AK highway is Laird Hot Springs, Whitehorse, a
side trip to Dawson City is well worth it with all the Parks Canada
historical Gold Rush sites, Long side trip up the Dempster HWY to
Inuviak in the NWT-get to cross the McKenzie River by Ferry-into Eagle
off the Top of theWorld Highway, a side trip to Skagway, ferry to
Haines, and back up the highway to Kluane Ntional Park near Haines
Jct. in YT. Plus lots more all along the highway, and side roads.

I have been doing all this multiple times for 25 years-best place in
the world for long road trips and car camping. And I ahve been tolots
of there places too. I have lived in Anchorage, AK since 1976.

How much time do you have? Remember travelling through the North is
usually better than the destination citys-although there are gems as
mentioned in other responses in the major citys.

Do you want off the road trips, backpacking, fishing, rafting,
canoeing, etc? All and more are available.
